oUF Asym UI - Widescreen  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 2.5
by: Dawn [More]

Main purpose of creating this UI was to create a lightweight interface that runs on my shitty PC, without losing to much utility and without looking like crap.
The name simply comes from my oUF layout. This UI is build around it.

The UI basically doesn't need a setup ingame, since version 1.9. All custom settings can be done by lua.

oUF_Asym UI is made to work for 1440x900, it works out of the box for 1680x1050 and 1920x1200, ... should work for all widescreen resolutions.

It comes with A LOT of different bartextures and fonts, see oUF_Asym fonts/texture folder and dArt folder.
There is also some nice art to play around with located in dArt/Art.

i.e.

I don't use any UI scale at all. I don't have this option checked. Or in other words this UI is basically build around an UI scale of 1.0.
If you are using another resolution as 1440x900, you might have to adjust your UI scale until it fits.

FEATURES:
- no setup, works out of the box for every (new) character
- very lightweight, it uses around 970kb of memory, around 1MB in raids
- a clean interface without glitches (even in combat)
- a lot of options to change the look of frameborders, textures...
- a lot of fun while playing .... hopefully
- last but not least, pretty decent support ... i'm trying, really! *cough*

NOTE:
1.) Pretty much any addon included in this UI is heavily customized, I don't take any credits for this.
However, you shouldn't update any of the addons, manually!
2.) If something spits out errors or stops working, tell me please.
3.) I will only support this to the point where it comes to bug fixing. If you want to customize it, you are on your own.
4.) Read the changelog, it contains usefull information!

SETUP:

1.) backup you font, interface and wtf folder
2.) Extract everything into your \WorldofWarcraft\ folder
3.) Make sure you rename YOURACCOUNTNAME to ... guess what ...

This and That:
* Blizzards Calendar is accessible by right clicking on the minimap
* Tracking is accessible by middle clicking on the minimap
* Chat frames minimize after 20seconds of inactivity - you can change the duration in Chicchai
* You can move all bag frames by holding ALT.
* to open a GM ticket type /GM or /ticket
* to reload your UI type /rl

Some addons that you can customize easily are:

*actionbars
rActionBarStyler\rActionBarStyler.lua

*unitframes
oUF_Asym\layout.lua

*chatframe (minimize/maximize effect, borders, background)
Chicchai\core.lua

*dFader (handles fade out of frames, when you are out of combat or without a target selected)
dFader\dFader.lua

*!LynColors (handles all kind of colors,... class colors, mana color, health color, ...)
!LynColors\core.lua

*dMinimap (Minimap addon, you can choose between round or square shape, change the borders, color, position, ....)
dMinimap\dMinimap.lua

Known issues:
1.) FogBG is used to display animated *.m2 files for the minimap. Some instances display *.m2 files different, there might be some glitches. It's still ok for my taste, since it doesn't happen that often. If you don't care for those fog animations at all, simply delete FogBG from your addon folder.
2.) Quality ID doesn't like "bound to account" items, it spits out an lua error while trying to show their itemLvl.

You might be correct though, that people can do this manually afterwards by ticking the UI scale option and select the appropriate scale regardless if you made the UI with this option checked or not. It has been 8-9 UI revisions since I did not use this options.
Setting an UI scale doesn't necessarily mean you get the same effect on all resolution. It also depends on how addons are coded, how they position there frames, to what they parent and so on.

You can try this with the UI, oUF frames should always be positioned right, regardless of the resolution (at least if you keep the aspects). AzCastBar for instance, should be out of place when you change the resolution.

I could of course add my config.wtf, which includes the setting for UI scale. I don't really want to, because it includes ALL other settings to, graphics, sound, and so on... Which I don't want to mess up, just because of one option that needs just to be unchecked (and some /rl afterwards).

You are sharing your great work and if some of us have to do some adjustments to get some resolutions work, it's no biggie

Another question to you though if I may:
You are using alot of nice memory efficient addons. What would you recommend as a memory efficient addon that tracks cooldowns with bars like Cooldown Timers, Hourglass etc?

NeedToKnow (for tracking buffs/debuffs) and TellMeWhen (Cooldowns) are some nice low mem addons you can also find here on Wowinterface.

CoolLine seems also very nice, even though I have not tested it, yet. I would go with this one, I guess.

Thanks so much for this Dawn, your UI is great in many aspects and with a little modificating I have achieved the UI of my dreams both beautiful and efficient.

On a side note do you know which is the official name of the ACBPlayerCastBar Frame since I would like to parent a KGPanel, similar to the Player frame, on it.

I had planned to parent a panel to my castbars, too. Mainly for targets castbar, since my player castbar sits on the player frame, now. But I haven't looked deeper into this, yet. Since the common way of getting a frame name doesn't work (mouseover macro).

Thanks for your input on Coolline. It is an awesome mod which shows cooldowns intutive without using too much space. I haven't come across this one before.

Do you have a replacement tip for NeedToKnow? I want to be able to have the bars grow up from the same place to make it look good while NTK only have the option of having unique positions for each spell. I currently use Sorren's Timers which works well with good customization possibilities(and tracks everything without manual input of the spells to track), but it is rather heavyweight and is not being maintained anymore.

Suggestion on a dot/hot timer?

DoTimer seems good at what it does, though it might be not more lightweight than Sorrens after all. It's updated quite frequently, however. I have never used it.

TextTimers is a little uncommon, yet VERY lightweight solution for timer bars. Seems like you can optionally use it for cooldowns, too. I like that addon a lot, but I'm not using bar timers anymore.

Awesome UI, the fontsize is sometimes a bit small, but overall it's a great one.

sthreatmeter is a good choice!

Now I have another question: as a Raider, how would you integrate Recount and/or DBM/BigWigs?

I've done it already but well it's ugly

You can easily change the font or fontsize in /oUF_Asym/layout.lua

I raid frequently, but without BigWigs and the like. After 4 years of raiding I don't need it. It's a different thing if your guild kinda "forces" you to use it, though. You can still just install it, and hide it somewhere.

There is some space above the player frame for timer bars. There's also enough space above the raid/party frame. Right side has some places to, but I wouldn't put ALL and everything there, because there is already a lot of information.

I wouldn't use Recount, it's bloated, imho. I use Violation from time to time to keep track of my performance, if I try a different spec, new gear or something. When this is the case, I hide it most of the time, so placing isn't so important (it goes into the upper left corner). Damage meters are nothing you need to look at during a fight, imho.

If you really need a damage meter all the time, I most likely would just get rid of chatframe2 (the one on the left), reset my chat settings (fastest way to have all channels show again in chatframe1), move chatframe1 (the one on the right) to the left side and place Violation/Recount/whatever next to the minimap. The chat panel of chatframe2 will hide on it's own, once the frame is gone.

If you decide to do this, you most likely have to edit /BasicChatMods/editbox.lua to show the "text editbox" above chatframe1 instead of chatframe3 - chatframe2 is the combat log. I just used the term "chatframe2" before to name the two visible chatframes you see, normally.

Had the same error recently I just did a /rl.

Thanks Dawn for your answer. You are probably right with the Bossmods and DPSmeters but well I like to have the information on my screen

Anyway I'll find a solution soon. Great work!

Sometimes oUF spits out an error when people join or leave a group/raid. I personally had the particular issue you described only once, and /rl (aka reload ui) fixed it. Does it give you a lua error of some sort ?
