DoubleWide  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 0.7-30000
by: Iriel [More]

This is a simple AddOn for a simple idea -- pull the quest log into side-by-side areas so it's double wide instead of cramping the size of the quest list.

Original conception, and graphics by Kudane.

0.7 - Updated for WoW 3.0 and properly supports an empty quest log

(I'm installing Vista on my comp, so no WoW to test at the moment...)

Please tell me this is an ultra-simple "extended quest log" without all that fluff? All I want is a wide quest pane, no other "enhancements". If it is, hot damn man I love you more than I aready did

Drool

Awesome, this is what I am looking for. Now if I could just make one request. Ace it and have it hosted on Ace Wiki.

There is nothing to use ACE on.. it's really just a re-skinning. We moved the items around, we didn't add anything to it other than a new quest log image (the background).

Re: Re: Drool

I don't "get" the fascination with Ace.. and I find the Wiki much harder to use than this site.

I can't wait to try this mod though.. I think it will be just what I'm looking for (even if it's not Ace.. /wink).

Works perfectly, with or without skinner

And about Ace2: They are libraries to use for developing addons. But using Ace libraries does not make it a good addon.

I realize that Ace does not make the addon, but Ace does make addons more efficient. Additionally, Ace updater is the best addon updater around.

The code for this addon is a whopping 6.24 KB including the toc, installing.txt and readme.txt. Seriously...how much "more efficient" do you think Ace would make running that small amount of code?

And, what did you use to determine this addon's "inefficiency" in the first place?

Really, the only thing I can give you here is that WAU is indeed handy.

I mean if Tek didn't find any problem with it, why should you? /target Tekkub; /wave

I do know what Ace is - I've just noticed quite a few posts requesting that this mod or that mod be redone in Ace. There are plenty of good, efficient, non-Ace mods out there. I guess I don't feel its really our place as addon users to request that an author redo his work, when the mod works perfectly fine as is. Just my humble opinion of course!

Tek hasn't installed it yet, Tek is still getting Vista configured to his liking. However, Tek trusts Iriel's work implicitly, but also is not afraid to take code and tweak it to his liking if it does what he wants but not as cleanly as he would like.

WAU is handy, yes, but the simpler the mod, the less often it must be updated.

Frankly the blind "Ace this!" comments are the reason Tek's been drifting away from the Ace community more and more. It used to be that the authors understood it wasn't the library that made good code, it's good code that makes good code. Users had this ideal beat into them as well. The beatings seem to have stopped now. More and more addons are "Aced" and touted as better when they haven't gained a damn thing. The process of converting an addon to Ace used to mean converting the author to using some nicer coding practices, or at least getting them to learn not to use some really nasty ones. That sure as hell doesn't seem to be happening anymore.

So, summary of rant... stop asking people to convert their mods to Ace, start asking authors to get involved with the community and learn to write better code. If they use Ace, good for them. If they don't need it, good for them. Quality is (was?) the goal of the Ace community, not absorbing every author and addon into it. One doesn't learn via osmosis.

Every author is constantly learning new and better ways to code... and it's usually from Iriel for crap's sake!

There is always a balance when using a library. Simple put, if you're not using the majority of the features of the lib, or the user doesn't have a bunch of addons using the same lib, the advantages are negligible. In fact, if your addon is the only one using the lib you are ADDING overhead that's not used because of all the features being loaded that you don't use. Authors should assess their needs when using a lib. I have a number of my own addons that don't use any lib at all *points at tekKompare*

Wow... Talk about ninja'n the thread, you hijacked the MOD! Ok... 'nuff about the ACE bs...

Don't know if this is a valid/appreciated request. But, figured I might as well throw it out there. LOVE the idea of the simple yet sexxay mod, but... Tweak one more thing? The quest tracker. The Blizzard default works, but... Could use a boost (a bit more info, and/or more then 5) Plz? Thanks again!

Fine, to unhijack, this is exactly what I was asking in my first post. I have nothing against enhancing the blizzy tracker, but please don't put that in this mod. Write another! Do one thing and do it well.

nquestlog is a good 'enhanced' tracker. Works well and pretty much automates tracking/warning in quests. One of the reasons I moved away from EQL to a simple quest mod was because nquestlog did everything so well. Hey! And it's Ace2, that must make it good right?

If you're into your simple mods it's probably a bit too ehanced though. Then I'd just return to EQL for a happy medium... (well, I think eql errors a bit, but there's plenty of similar mods).

Edit: Didn't even realise this mod was by Iriel. My UI is blessed by royalty now :P
