GathererDB WoWHead  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 2.0.2013-06-15
by: Esamynn, dinesh, MentalPower, Nechckn, Norganna, norganna_uploader

WoWInterface is happy to announce that we have teamed up with Wowhead and the Norganna's AddOns Gatherer team to provide you with an exclusive downloadable Wowhead database for display in-game by Gatherer.

This addon will provide you with all the information currently in the Wowhead database showing all known locations of herbs, minerals and treasures. Now you can simply load up Gatherer, plug this database into it, and know what can be found in the zone you are in, without having to discover them yourself.

Wowhead will be providing regular dumps of their database to the Norganna team, who will then update the GathererDB Wowhead addon exclusively here on WoWInterface.

How it works
The import procedure is simple and painless. Once you have installed the AddOn and have reloaded the game, ensuring that both Gatherer and GathererDB_Wowhead are activated. When you finally log into the game, follow this procedure to import the new data into Gatherer:

  • Open Gatherer's configuration dialog.
  • Click on the red "Database" tab on the left-hand side of the dialog.
  • Click the import button in the main panel.

Make sure to add GathererDB-Wowhead to your favourites list here on WoWInterface and check back periodically to see if it's been updated, or get an email sent to you whenever they update it if you have those notifications turned on. Any time they update it, just re-download GathererDB-Wowhead and update your local copy.

Help improve the database
If you want to contribute your data back to Wowhead to continue expanding the database, please download and install the Wowhead client (available for both PC and Mac) and just follow the instructions on their site.

About Gatherer
Gatherer is an addon for herbalists, miners and treasure hunters in World of Warcraft. It's main purpose is to track the closest plants, deposits and treasure locations on your minimap.

The addon does not track like a tracking ability does, rather it "remembers" where you have found various items in the past. It does this whenever you gather (perform herbalism, mining, or opening) on an item, and records the specific map location in its history. From then on, whenever the item comes into range of being one of the closest 1-25 (configurable) items to your present location, it will pop up on the minimap.

When you view your World Map, you will also see the item locations clearly marked on each zone's map.

About Wowhead
Wowhead was created with one sole intent: to provide World of Warcraft players with an extensive database and tools to enhance their gaming experience. This website is our contribution to this wonderful game.

Our user community is a big part, if not the biggest part, of Wowhead. Almost all of our information comes from our users, through data uploads from the Wowhead Client, comments on database entries and screenshot submissions! The site also features forums, where users can ask questions, discuss important Warcraft-related topics, recommend and share favorite addons, and much more!

Updated to support Gatherer 4.0.4.

19 DEC 2010 Updated the node list and have included what data is available for the gigantic changes seen in WoW 4.x.

09 DEC 2009 Updated to the most recent set of nodes and updated TOC for WoW 3.3

18 FEB 2009 Updated to the latest nodes, including those recently renamed in 3.0.8.

29 DEC 2008 Corrected some inconsistencies between GathererDB and Gatherer. Included more node locations.

05 DEC 2008 Corrected issues in the script pertaining to Icecrown, node IDs, and a few more nodes included in the DB.

04 DEC 2008 Corrected Icecrown naming, items should now appear in that zone.

03 DEC 2008a The correct, expanded DB file and other changes.

03 DEC 2008 Added yet more Northrend and other WotLK node locations, formatting of file, et cetera.

Re: frustration with northrend

TigerKnight,

There surely are plenty of nodes for the Northrend areas- there was another re-naming recently which may have impacted the nodes DB.

Try the "new" one going up shortly and let us know of your experience,

Nikk

The old world and BC stuff shows up and has a source of DB:Wowhead - but NOTHING northrend shows up except the ones I've mined myself or gotten as shares from guildmates.

I find it hard to believe that the db has no northrend nodes in it, especially after seeing the comments in changelog about how they fixed the new ID number problem - so what gives?

Re: Cannot import?...

Afulls04,

That should be it, ensure that the check marks are gold, instead of gray, for Gatherer, GatherHUD, SlideBar and GathererDB_Wowhead.

If you click Configure on Gatherer and do not see the "Database" button, then the DB is likely not installed correctly or is having issues. Try re-installing the older one or the new one, and see if anything imports.

If that does not work, try disabling all of your AddOns, except Gatherer, GatherHUD, SlideBar, GathererDB_Wowhead, and Swatter, and then try again. Copy any errors you see and report them here.

Either way, let us know of your findings,

Nikk

The only plugin I have listed is HUD, and I just installed the latest version of Gatherer. Am I missing something??

Re: Re: Re: Cannot import database..

Popogigio,

If you do not see database as an option, then you do not have the GathererDB_Wowhead properly installed.

You need to install it, just like any other AddOn.

When you click the "Addons" button in the lower left of the Character Selection Screen, ensure that GathererDB_Wowhead has a gold check mark in its check box.

Happy Gatherering,

Nikk

I can't seem to find where to turn off the power crystals for Un'Goro Crater. Is this a bug, or is there a certain way to do it that I'm missing? I've tried unchecking "power crystals" in the treasure section but it doesn't work. Any suggestions?

MisterShady,

Very odd; do you have any sort of map addon running?

Perhaps try disabling all of your other AddOns and see if the behavior remains.

Happy Gatherering,

Nikk

OK. I tried disabling all of my other add-ons. The power crystals were still there. I then blew away my gatherer add-on folders as well as my server saved variables and my character specific saved variables and reinstalled gatherer. I then redownloaded Gatherer and the DB. With all of my other add-ons disabled, I started up the game. Once in game, I unchecked "power crystals" in the GathererDB treasure list. The Un'Goro power crystals are still showing up.

Does it make a difference that on the map they are named "Red Power Crystal" "Blue Power Crystal" and "Green Power Crystal", whereas in the GathererDB list they are named just "Power Crystals"?

Thanks for taking your time in helping me with this!

Re: Re: Un'Goro Power Crystals

MisterShady,

Interesting, and yes, there is some translation between what Gatherer calls the nodes and what GathererDB is able to obtain from our WoWHead friends.

Once able to get in and look at things, will have a better idea of what is up.

Appreciate the input and all... will see what we can do.

Happy Gatherering,

Nikk

The Gatherer and DB addons are amazing. I friggin love the work you've put into this. However, my guild leader absolutely insists that the DB import is a violation of TOS or EULA. Can anyone link up information that proves him wrong so as to give me a little peace of mind? While I disagree with the guy I am sufficiently concerned. I don't want to get banned for being awesome. Thank you in advance.

Archimedes70,

Do not have anything off hand, but Gatherer has been around for years now. It is one of the most popular AddOns on the "major" AddOn sites and we have direct interaction with a few of the Blizzard developers- should any of our AddOns have been any sort of violation, we would have removed them long ago.

If your guild leader would like, they can verify the function calls, based on those at http://WoWWiki.Com/api ; all are unprotected, "open" functions.

As to the database, that is all based on information freely available from the client files. We abhor any sort of hacking of the game client that would violate that TOS/EULA and simply have none of it. In fact, that is simply mentioning private servers or "gray" functions is one of the surest ways to find yourself on our site's banned list.

Will try to find if there are any specific posts/comments. Not sure if there are any, directly, but you can search the official Blizzard Customer Service Forums for any mentions of Gatherer, GathererDB, Auctioneer, or Enchantrix, to find any sort of "bad" mentions.

Happy Gatherering,

Nikk

Nikk,

Thank you for the swift reply. I appreciate the feedback and will try scouring the forums for info. My only concern was with uploading the GathererDB and whether Blizz would consider it a violation. With over 600,000 downloads of said addon, I feel fairly confident that it isn't a problem. All the same, I'll check back periodically to see if anyone has any hard facts to link. Thank you again and my god, I love the work you do!

Older Data

I installed the DB last night then went to a few zones to check the accuracy and it seems that many of the mines from the old world are still in the DB.

In the Eastern Plaquelands the data was so off that I had to just remove that area from the DB to get a fresh look. I also noticed treasure chest in some very odd places.

Is it possible that I'm just pulling an older DB file down?

A good portion of our guild is now using Gatherer so we will start compiling a list of our own but it would be nice to have a fairly complete list already handy.

Don’t worry. Gatherer and GathererDB, and the vast majority of all addons, are legal and not violating TOS or EULA.

You can check out this “blue answer” by Aeus from 31/07/2007 if you’re worried:
http://forums.wow-europe.com/thread....533114&sid=1#2

It still holds up, and of course the same goes for DB since it’s also only consists of .lua and .toc files.

You can also check out this discussion if you want:
http://forums.wow-europe.com/thread....sid=1&pageNo=1

Warcrap might act like a troll imo, hehe, but I believe you’ll find some of the replies both clarifying and reinsuring.

Or as September puts it in reply no. 112:
”A quick rule of thumb: If it goes in the AddOns folder and only there, it's not cheating.”

Enjoy and good luck!
