oUF_mono

About:
oUF_mono is a layout for oUF 1.5.* by haste.
It was designed for my personal needs as hybrid class, so it should be comfy for either damage dealers, healers or even tanks.

This layout was made using zork's structure template from oUF_Simple and the raid module was inspired by Freebaser's oUF_Freebgrid.

This layout contains some basic configuration options via editing cfg.lua. However if you want to modify this layout beyond those settings you're going to need some lua knowledge and you got to read through oUF documentation. You may also find some answers and help in the oUF sub-forum on this website. Keep in mind that I will not modify this layout for you.

  • Q: Is it a bad thing to shoot pedestrians with your bow through the back window of your car?
  • A: Yes it is, because you can't see the road then.
  • Q: How do I get rid of the raid frames?
  • A: Either turn it off in cfg.lua or just remove "oUF_mono\raid" folder.
  • Q: RAID PETS??????
  • A: DIAF.
  • Q: How do I remove duplicate timers on my buffs and debuffs?
  • A: You're running some sort of cooldown timer add-on, therefore you have to disable layout's custom timers by setting "cfg.auratimers" to "false".

Combat feedback

Hi Monolit,

I'm trying to use oUF Combat Feedback with oUF Mono (I'm using the entire addon pack which works wonder) and I don't know how to make it work. Actually to have my UI finished I need this addon and oUF Spell Range but both of them don't seem to work. I get no errors but they do nothing.
In the oUF Combat Feedback they say I need a CombatFeedbackText member on your oUF unit object (self) and they suggest to add a string of code that I don't know where to add...
Do you happen to have 2 minutes to explain this please? I'd appreciate very much.

Thank you again for your work.

Sandro

I'll upload a new version with oUF_CombatFeedback support just because I consider it somewhat useful. However if you want oUF_spellrange support - do it yourself, it's even easier than combat feedback, just use my combat feedback code as example.

So in order to implement some new feature in my layout you need to do 3 things:
1) edit .toc file and add the plugin to the list of optional deps (## OptionalDeps
2) you need to create a function in lib.lua that will actually set all the necessary frames, textures, font stings and plug-in settings. In our case I had to create a font string for this text and place it on top of everything else (via parenting to the helper frame "h" with higher frame level), i.e. we're making sure that it's not gonna be overlapped by any element.
3) call this function in our core.lua (e.g. in our case: "lib.gen_combat_feedback(self)") either from each frame style function, or from the shared style func (genStyle(self)) if you want to enable this feature for all the frames.

I will not add oUF_SpellRange support as I don't think it's any useful, but I gave you more than enough information to do it yourself.

No really... read the F.A.Q. please.
This is useless and stupid feature that I will never implement myself unless blizzard make hunters turn into their pets... or I get properly payed to do this
It's not that hard to make them using the core_raid.lua structure as the example. All you need to do is to create a new style for them (or you may even use the raid one) and then spawn them via SpawnHeader function with "ShowPet" (iirc) visibility attribute set to true and other - false. As the result you will get a set of pet frames separately from your raid frames with unique anchor (and style for that matter).

I will try. I have to thank you once more for your kindness, Monolit.
I also noticed one more thing: I don't know if your knowledge of lua is superior of the knowledge of people like Alza, Caellian etc. But my very poor cognition of lua programming allows me to modify (sometimes) the functions of addons created by you only because they are so clearly written that it's even easy for a noob like me to understad what they do and how.
When I look into some other ones' addons I find them, most of the time, quite messy; disorganized, in some way. Yours are well explained, aligned, grouped in paragraph. Also the writings is easier, if you can ever compare it to others (I don't know if to add a function there are different way to, but I feel you always choose the easiest and most understandable one. If you know what I mean...).

Go on and keep up the good work.

Sandro

PS: sorry for the wall of text but it had to be said!

tags.lua
you need to change monop tag
lua Code:
  1. oUF.Tags['mono:pp'] = function(u)
  2.     local _, str = UnitPowerType(u)
  3.     local min, max = UnitPower(u), UnitPowerMax(u)
  4.     if str then
  5.         if min~=max then
  6.             return hex(pcolors.power[str])..max.." | |cffe15f8b"..min-max.."|r"
  7.         else
  8.             return hex(pcolors.power[str])..SVal(min).." | 100%"
  9.         end
  10.     end
  11. end

PS: sorry for the wall of text but it had to be said!
Thanks for your kind words, it's always nice to see someone appreciate your work I honestly can't say that my lua knowledge is superior to ALZA's because of 1 simple fact: I actually learned from him and few other guys (like Zork, Shadowhunt and Alekk) how to code in LUA and how to use oUF framework. I do know that my code is easier to read and change, because I still remember all the pain I went through trying to understand uncommented (or poorly commented) bits of code when I was just starting to write add-ons. And I'm glad that it actually payed off

Not gonna happen, if you want some very specific feature (as I consider this one) then stop being lazy and do it yourself, it's not that hard after all. Search through functions and comments in lib.lua, use a proper text editor (SciTE/Notepad++) and spend a little time trying to understand how things work.

All those comments in my code are there for a reason: to make a learning curve a bit easier and to diminish the amount of such requests.

not sure why this is like this.

cfg.showraid = false

cant see the raid. when in one. so i set it to true. and i get all sorts of errors. mainly from Ouf not from Mono.

but also when sent to true. it always shows your name like you was in a raid. even when not in a raid.

Interface\AddOns\oUF\elements\threat.lua:15: attempt to call method 'SetVertexColor' (a nil value)
Count: 99

Call Stack:

[C]: in function `SetVertexColor'
Interface\AddOns\oUF\elements\threat.lua:15: in function <Interface\AddOns\oUF\elements\threat.lua:4>

It looks like you tried running oUF_mono on beta client so of course it's gonna give you errors, the beta version of my layout will be soon available as part of my UI.

Checked it on live within all sorts of raids and in combat, and found no errors.

no it was on live. but i do have a updated ouf from http://github.com/haste/oUF
so that mighe be it. but still no raid frames.

i see from the one before the setting are diffrant.

so im going to try like

cfg.showraid = true

cfg.soloON = false -- show player frame if not in group
cfg.partyON = false -- show party as 5 men raid group
cfg.raid5ON = false -- show raid frame for 5 (or less) men raid group

Oh god, why would you do that? Read commits, it's clearly stated that haste's working on oUF for Cataclysm BETA servers, so please stick with the stable release that you can find on wowinterface.

First, great ouF layout !

How can I remove the Target and ToT buffs and debuffs ? Or how can I remove the buff frame and move the debuffs frame ?

Can I remove highlight when I select the player frame ?

okay, so I try to be as self sufficient as I can, but I just started using this on retail as well, and the retail version has these infuriating backdrop textures behind the default position of the main action bars. I however, for needs and preferences, set my layout up differently and I would really like to know how I can go about disabling this texture/backdrop. Thanks again

Oh and its been said before, but your code is really amazing to work with. I don't code anything at all and I have no problem understanding most of it
