KaratinaBar

Version: 1.6
by: FoxMcLeod [More]

The KaratinaBar is a movable mana bar with a nice feature.
You can select up to two spells which icons are then shown below or above the bar.
Additionally the number of casts left (not calculating your regeneration or any pots) is shown right to the icon.
At last a number of markers are put along the mana bar, which visualize the number of casts left.

This AddOn is my first try, so the code is probably far from optimized and the layout is still a bit rough.

I'd like to encourage anyone to comment on my addon whether you are a well experienced coder and found flaws or possibilities for optimization or just a normal user who likes my addon and wants to request additional features.

Big Thanks go to
all the people in the #wowi-lounge especially
Shirik, MentalPower, werehamster and Cide

to the authors of the WoWWiki Interface Section

and all the lazy coders who ignored my thread in the Request Forum and forced me
to widen my horizont by learning a new computer language.

FoxMcLeod aka Fox2

could this get updated...
because...
im a mage but...
my unit frame addons make my mana bar too small to see...
and a mana bar addon for a mage would be cool...
so i can see how much mana i have better without squinting...

I've tried this out, really should be added to Ace imo, coz all of my unitframes and generally my interface is Ace'd and it doesn't quite "fit in" to my other addons.

+vote for making it able for Ace'd

Enhancement request

This looks like a great little mod, but I've just installed it and I've already thought of some features I'd like to see. All of them are already on your to-do list though, except one: one of my characters is a druid, and I'd love it if the bar could show current mana when I'm in one of my animal forms. It can be done; I've seen a mod that did that once, though I forget what it was called or why I wasn't happy with it. If this could be added to Karatinabar, it would be perfect!

This version is absolute correct.
"Fool, how can you doubt ME. Puny earthlings bow to me superiority! BOW!" (Invader Zim? Anyone? )

Things I want to do before going gold (realesing a non-beta version):
-implementing DewDrop
-implementing SharedMedia
-add options to change bar and marker texture
-add options to change font
-extensive testing (2 weeks at least)

When I release something as final (gold, non-beta, whatever) it is supposed to be final, like bug-free and everything I initially planned.
However, I'd like to think that the beta is already stable and useful and I use it on my lvl70 priest, so nothing is actually keeping you from using it. I just don't think it is already as good as it can be.

My god people would you stop doing this "Ace it" thing? it's totally retarded and you don't have any idea what you are talking about. I'm not even going to discuss this if you don't have an AUTHOR tag next to your name.

You have no say in backend code decisions made by developers. Stop acting like you have actual arguments to propose a certain backend system (which it doesnt even need in the first place).

Edit:

Sasuni this is to you

In all fairness, if you use a bunch of ace mods already, then the libraries already exist. The system only loads the most recent version of each library no matter how many times they're embedded. The reason he/she is asking for it is because if it hooks the same graphics libs then you can establish a consistent look and feel across all of the UI elements, instead of having one bar with one graphic and another bar with a different one.

Also, there's just as many annoying people saying "It doesn't NEED to be Ace'd" as there are folks saying that it should be
Then he/she should ask for SharedMedia support, not to be ace'd. A lot of non-ace mods have SharedMedia support. And even there, its not hard to replace the frost.tga texture but the one you want... doesnt need to load a lib for that.

Also, ppl saying "It doesnt NEED to be Ace'd" are rights. Sure, if the addons is big enough and could benefit from Ace libs, it could be aced, but it doesnt NEED to. And even there, being ace'd wouldnt makes it better, the author and his coding does it.

Ppl saying "it should be ace'd" are often wrong because they usually think that making an addon Ace2 makes it better and more lightweight in all cases, which is totally wrong.

Users shouldnt bother if a mod is Ace or not, they should check if the mods do what they want it to do, and if they want to go deeper, look at the code, if its well written then its good, if its ace or not doesnt matter at all.

so.. to sums it up
- Add SharedMedia support [Good]
- Make it Ace2 [No point of doing this atm]

btw, "The system only loads the most recent version of each library" this isnt true. It will load only 1 time same libs with same version. But it will load multiple libs if they have different version numbers(ie DogTags-1.0/DogTags-2.0, Sharemedia-1.0/SharedMedia-2.0) :P

I will look into the Ace2 matter.
On one hand my AddOn is pretty simple and wouldn't benefit much from any Ace2 libs,
on the other hand Ace2 libs might help to include more graphical styles and I could use
Waterfall for configuration.

At the moment it's pretty hectic here with the holidays coming up and all, but I'm eager to improve it as much as possible, so there will be probably a new version in this year.
Whether it will be "Ace'd" or not I'm not sure.

yeah seriously, i think your idea of whats Ace2 is completly wrong. If that addon was Ace2, it would prolly only take up more ressource than needed and thats pretty much it.

and btw, Ace2 sucks, thats why most ppl tend to leave it for non-ace'd mods.

Ace3 tho seems very promising.
