BigWigs TotemRange

Version: 01.00.03.R
by: Garland [More]

This is a silly little module I threw together for BigWigs. My vision isn't the best so I can't always keep track of everything, one of the things I don't always keep track of so well is when I move in/out of a totem's buffing range - be it my own totems or those of a friend. This helps remedy that by providing heads-up messages whenever the player leaves the range of a totem and whenever they come back in. I believe it works for all totem buffs (I think I've got them right, let me know if they're not) and it can be accessed via /bigwigs plugins totem.

I apologise for the lack of a screenshot but there's not much to see, but here's what happens if you're curious; the player walks out of range of a Stoneskin Totem and an overhead message appears stating "Lost 'Stoneskin' Buff". The player wanders back into range and the message "Gained 'Stoneskin' Buff" shows.

I'm also tempted to make this a general purpose addon so that any buffs can be added to it in game to watch if anyone would find that useful? Is this useful for any class other than Shaman? It might not even be useful for anyone other than me! But give it a try if you have a lot going on on your screen and you want to know where you stand with your totems (pun not intended).

...

01.00.03.R: Fixed three items...

Pastmaster debuff bug; Fixed errors about UnitDebuff.

Debug prints; I left my debug print text in, this might've been causing errors for some of you, I apologise for that.

Gratuity; I forgot to include this embedded lib which Pastmaster uses.

01.00.00.R: First release. A description of my release codes can be found in a text file included with the mod.

I bet you'd all thought I'd forgotten this, eh? Well, I hadn't! In fact I'd been secretly tinkering away with another project in the background, waiting until the time was right (until I could set Tip on Demand aside) to pounce. So there it is, the spiritual successor to all things TotemRange, feel free to pop over there, take a look, take a load off and offer any suggestions, feedback and bug reports you might have.

Thanks! Those are all good suggestions and as soon as I have some time, I'll get right on them and implement everything you've suggested and likely rework the mod (it might even need another name by that point). It'll get done though but it might take a little while, I want some downtime to play the Burning Crusade after the huge update I made to TipOnDemand but I'll get dragged back to coding soon ... so worry not.

pally auras are an AoE around the pally, so what you would need to do is monitor for Buuf Lost and Gained and report that as the pally themselves will often be moving where as a totem is in a fixed spot (though im guessing you just use buff watching to determine totem buffs gained/lost rather than the actual range/location of the totem )
other buffs you may want to consider adding would be hunter aspects, warlocks bloodpact (from the imp pet), can't think of any other buffs to watch for off-hand, but i know theres some fights where ild love to be alerted to moving out of range of the pallies Fire Resist aura or the Hunters Nature Resist Aspect etc and it would be very beneficial to have the bloodpact included incase your noob recruit warlock forgets to park his imp lol
unfortunately with the leveling rush and tbc being all 5mans till 70 i havent had a chance to test this as my guild isnt currently raiding
*mental note to self: LoD bigwigs and load this and test it on some 5mans, might save my tank from outrunning his tremor totem lol

oh also, the generic/ability to add specific buffs on the fly would be fantastic, i vote for that as a feature request
and seeing that this is a BigWigs plugin, you should see about getting it onto the wowace.com svn and make a post on their forums in the raid section of Ace2 addons (if you havent already hehe)

Morgaloth: BigWigs and TotemRange are LoadOnDemand so it's best to use an LOD manager to get them to load at startup if you want to use them all the time. I did it this way in case some people might only wish to use this functionality in instances or raids.

Lacindas: Don't worry as it only tells the player with a heads up message, it can tell the raid if broadcasting is on but it's off by default. I don't know why anyone would want to use broadcasting for it but I included that option just in case, I might remove it since it seems to be pointless fluff. Anyway, as for Paladin auras do they work the same as totems? With a totem, I drop one and it holds space at point X and if I, as the totem dropper, walk Y yards away from it then I lose the buff even though I dropped the totem and then I have to run back to the totem to get the buff.

What I could do as I said is make it a simple alerter so that one could add whatever buffs they want to it so it alerts whenever any buff added to its database is lost or gained, would that work? The broadcaster might work then, I'm not sure. I'd really appreciate your input on this because when it comes to uses outside of totems, you seem to have a better idea of what should be in there than I do, so I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

perhaps add paladin auras, like fire resist, devotion etc as well
cant think of any other aoe buff effects at the moment tho
im curious, as this is a bigwigs plugin, does it send the msg to the raid or just to yourself locally?
seems like it could make for massive spam in something like Onyxia or some similar if its raid-wide messaging

The first version of this was buggier than I realised and I apologise for that, after some hard questing with my Draenei Shaman I came across these and I fixed them up right away. I hope nobody was inconvenienced by these bugs.
