Muted Sounds - Combat  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: r18
by: sp00n [More]

******
I don't play anymore, you should check out this addon instead:
http://www.wowinterface.com/download...alversion.html
******

Updated for 4.3.4

This file removes all* combat sound files from the game so that you can clearly hear your addon sounds (and also boss speeches!).
I tried to filter out all boss emotes and speeches/events in this version. Mistakes may happen of course, but I'm quite happy with it.

If you want 100% muted ingame sound, check out the other file here.

Installation:
Extract the .rar into /Data directly so that you have a /Data/Sound directory.

* Note:
It may not remove 100% of the combat sounds, especially if Blizzard decided to add a new spell or alter existing ones. Some sounds are pesky little buggers that hide somewhere else. If you identify them, let me know, and I will add them to this file.

This mod was inspired by silverwind's Bossmod Sound Fix (while game is muted). It does however not rely on files with zero byte content but on "real" muted valid sound files (ogg and wav). The zero byte sound files gave me problems while playing addon sounds, where half of them just didn't play.
I don't have this problem with valid files.

Alternative

Until sp00n updates this (if he does) another user created an alternative.

http://www.wowinterface.com/download...alversion.html

Same as what sp00n's did but updated for 5.0

Yeah a MoP update would be awesome! Although you could in theory just use this and the:

MuteAnnoyingWoWSounds

Though an update to this would be optimal.

Soo, any chance of an update?
There's some new sounds since 5.0.4 any chance we can get an update?
Or even one for MoP with all the new Monk sounds incoming :P

Well, it matters that if you don't have any of the ogg files in the Sound folder, you'll hear most of the sound effects (except the bugged ones). It's just that the (additional and technically superflous) .wav files simply aren't harmful.

k' thanks for your time, cause initially with 4.3 I'd just completely removed all the .wav files & went with .ogg, if it doesn't ''matter'' which one is in there I'll just stick with both then ^^

Normally, WoW should simply ignore any .wav files in the Sound folder, as .ogg files should always take precedence. The problem is that it doesn't work correctly for all files in patch 4.3.4.
But it doesn't hurt to have both file types there, no. I just wanted to keep the archive clean (and smaller) by sticking to the way 4.3.3 handled the files.

if this was not intended does it matter if we have .ogg, or .wav in the folders? since it'd pick up either .ogg, or .wav files for the muted versions, right?

Blizzard played around again, and either by mistake or on purpose activated the .WAV files for a few selected sounds.
There's no real pattern behind this, so I assume it's a bug.

The following files will ignore their .ogg counterparts and play the .wav file instead. If no .wav file is present in the \Sound directory, it will play the original file.

Code:
Sound\Character\Footsteps\MediumLargeMetalFootsteps\MediumLargeFootstepMetal_10.wav
Sound\Character\Footsteps\mFootMediumLargeStoneJ.wav
Sound\Creature\babymoonkin\PET_BabyMoonkin_Flap10.wav
Sound\Creature\Frog\Float.wav
Sound\Creature\greaterslime\GreaterSlime_Death_10.wav
Sound\Creature\NorthrendGhoul\NorthrendGhoulAggro1.wav
Sound\Creature\NorthrendGhoul\NorthrenGhoulNewDeath10.wav
Sound\Creature\pandarenpet\Pandaren_StandVar3_10.wav
Sound\Creature\Sheep\SheepDeath.wav
Sound\Creature\worgenmale\WorgenMale_Death_10.wav
Sound\Doodad\FX_ExplosionProjectileLaunchLarge_10.wav
Sound\Doodad\FX_ExplosionProjectileLaunchMedium_10.wav
Sound\Doodad\GO_ExplodingStoneImpact01_10.wav
Sound\Doodad\ZeppelinHeliumA.wav
Sound\Interface\PickUp\PickUpMetalSmall.wav
There are probably more, those are the ones I could identify during an LFR run.

So I'll probably end up simply adding back in all .wav files again, which I deleted for the 4.3.3 release.

I think they added a few new sounds with 4.3.4.
Just to be sure, I deleted the Sound folder I had and added it fresh from the rar file.

Seems like there's some mail armor sound when I'm on my mount as well as when it lands there's a step sound.
Same when going over the metal bridge in Baradin Hold, metal clank step sound.

Also, there are 2-3 new sounds in combat it seems. One might have been the warlock guldan meteor thingy, the others I started hearing towards execute phase.

Hope this helps.

No idea, just follow the steps below.

I have no idea for that sound file, it doesn't seem to be a new file alltogether but rather a simply a changed file. At least I can't find any file with that name in the files added in 4.3.

Your best bet is probably to install the "muted - all" version, enter the game as a warlock (or have a warlock buddy), go to a place without other players near and use a tool like Process Monitor to observe the files accesses by the WoW executable when you're casting Shadowbolt.
At least that's how I did it for spells I couldn't identify.

Feral Cat

Hey, I'm trying to get it to only play sounds that my character makes, and I've found the names for most of the sound files that a Night Elf Feral Druid Cat uses, but I can't find a few. Do you know the name of the sound file for Shred and Faerie Fire (Feral)?

I'm quite fond of those, I really just want the combat sounds muted and nothing else.
The emotes are in \Data\Sound\Character\, separated into the different races.
The names are pretty descriptive there, so you should have no problem to find the specific sounds you want.
Then just delete the muted sounds in these folders.
