Will It Mog? [DISCONTINUED]

Version: 0.6.2
by: Nathanyel [More]

Outdated, check out "Can I Mog It?" (WoWI/Curse)

I can't believe there is no addon for this yet (at least I can't find one, neither here nor on Curse)

Will It Mog? displays in the tooltip whether a weapon or armor piece of appropriate slot can be transmogrified, or be used as a source for transmogrification.
Only items that are uncommon (green) or better have the info always displayed, there are certain white items that can be used to transmogrify other items, but most are miscellaneous anyway (incompatible with Cloth/Leather/Mail/Plate)

By default, the addon will display short colored indicators, first value is whether you can transmogrify the item, second is whether you can use it to transmogrify another item.
Verbose mode, enabled with

Code:
/run WillItMog.verbose = true
will attempt to use game data to 'translate' the reasons that are given when an item can not be transmogrified or used as a source, otherwise it gives the error code, which should be precise as well (e.g. "NO_STATS")
As this is the only "option" at the moment, I don't bother with an options menu of some sort, but if you have ideas for options, please mention them.
Note: When you use links from Wowhead or other DB sites for an item that can have random enchantments, the tooltip will wrongly state that it is not transmogrifyable. While this is technically true for the 'empty' item, every version of this item you can get in the game will have a random enchantment, and thus stats, and thus is transmogrifyable both ways.

Should work in all locales, but no guarantee for non-English ones, let me know if there are problems.

Speaking of problems, is the title too close to something copyrighted by BlendTec?

0.6.2:
- 6.2 toc bump

0.6: Patch 6.0 compatibility

0.5:
- Offhand items got the "miscellaneous" notice - they are technically in that category, but for transmog's sake their armor ;)

0.4:
- instead of whitelisting only certain white items, let's check whether they're moggable first, and then decide whether to display mog info. Let's hook all corresponding items without even knowing them :)
- similar with miscellaneous items, along with a warning that they're incompatible to normal armor.

0.3b:
- use LibTipHooker to hook several addon-generated tooltips, most importantly AtlasLoot's
- properly recognize offhands

0.3a:
- 2 more white moggable items, thanks Ashelia from Wowhead
- be more careful about itemlinks, just because we're called on a tooltip doesn't mean the item is cached yet
- also, read the Note about items with random enchantments in the Description tab of this page

0.3 - "right, I wanted to upload this":
-whitelist certain white items
- 'handle' placeholders in error messages

0.2:
- corrected slot filter: head, not neck >_<
- only check for uncommon or better items

0.1a:
- Note to self: be more careful about conditions when coding in the night.
- Should not display on non-armor/weapon tooltips anymore

Soulbound, non-unique, non-stackable.

Too broad a concept to use an addon for that

Thanks!

Well, basically everything that is miscellaneous, equippable and has stats. This includes bonus armor, but not special equip effects. So, even the Spring Circlet (and its recolors that might come next Noblegarden) and the Purple Turban are valid for transmogrification. In the case of the latter, only as a source, as it is not Bind on Pickup, and cannot be made soulbound - well, it will say "soulbound" with a head enchant, but it will still not be transmogrifyable.
Anyway, this is just a funny sidenote, as no miscellaneous item would be used in actual fights, and outside of fights, you can just wear the actual item with the wanted look anyway. At most, you can have bunny ears while cooking faster :P

First, keep in mind that those can only be used to copy their appearance on other items. The DMF ones seem to be specifically enabled, just like the Replica Dungeon Set items, which have no stats and would actually not be valid. For the Brunnhildar weapons, I'm not so sure, might be accidental due to their somehow unique way to describe the proc, that somehow counts as a "stat".
It's all about stats, not color, by the way. There is Keeshan's Bandana, which is transmogrifyable and a source, but as it's a misc item, the only compatible items are Chef's Hat, Gnomish X-Ray Specs and the NYI Gnomish Thinking Cap

I currently know of the Brunnhildar proc weapons and two specific items from the new Darkmoon Faire. There are likely more out there, of course. See the second link, Wowhead is working on gathering data of that, though their current list of moggable items is semi-manually generated, esp. these two white items.

I wanted to say no, equip effects that are no secondary stat don't count, but then I checked the items, and the polearm, 2h axe and bow (those with the proc) are indeed a valid source! I checked other white items with an equip effect, but none of them had a positive result. I'll probably hardcode them in as exceptions to white items.

Hello there,

I just want to tell you, that there are more white items that are valid for transmogrification. Got to Brunnhildar and check the items Warsmith Sigfinna sells. May it be the equip-effect?

Kind regards,
X-buZZ

Best name for an add-on in years. If I was interested in mogging my gear a lot, I would definitely use this on the merits of its name alone.
