SafeTricks

Version: 20100601
by: Yawning [More]

Intelligently auto cancel the threat transfer component of Tricks of the Trade while preserving the damage boost.

Note: This mod relies on the LFD group role or the build in Main Tank assignment to autodetect tanks.

Supported modes are:

  • +Threat Tanks, +Damage DPS
  • +Damage Tanks, +Damage DPS
  • +Threat Tanks, +Damage DPS, +Threat Rogues

Note: If no tanks are present (auto-identified/user specified), UNLESS the mode is set to "+Damage Tanks, +Damage DPS", the mod will NOT remove the threat transfer.

Additional features:
It is possible to permanently set specific people to be DPS or Tanks.
It is possible to override add on behavior for the next ToTT. (Force threat transfer.)
It has rudimentary Party/Raid spam capabilities. (Will announce +Threat or +Dmg, and to who.)

Command: "/stricks"
  • enable - Enable smart cancel.
  • disable - Disable smart cancel.
  • gui - Display the graphical config.
  • status - Addon status.
  • refresh - Rescan the roster for tanks.
  • mute - Mute/Unmute Raid/Party whispers. (NOT SAVED)
  • force - Force the next ToTT to transfer threat. (NOT SAVED)

Future improvements:
  • Possibly support syncing with other users.

20100601 - Include AceGUI-3.0. No functional changes.
20100421 - Redid the Always Tank/Always DPS UI to be non-terrible. Added support for announcing ToTT usage to a specific channel.
20100415 - Added a ton of new features that should make the addon more widely usable. (Most are accessible through the all new config menu.)
20100409 - So it turns out that GetUnitName() returns truncated names for X-Realm players. Changed it to use GUIDs internally to avoid the issue all together.
20100408 - Inital Release

That's odd. I take it there aren't any Lua errors appearing either otherwise you would have posted them.

I can replicate this on the PTR, so I'll figure out what's going on and let you know. (I think I forgot to package a dependency, but I'm not sure which one it is.)

Edit: Ah there we go. Forgot to include AceGUI-3.0. I re-uploaded it with the missing library, so that should fix the problem once it's available. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.
Thanks a bunch!

Nope, still having the same problem. Got a guildmate to download it to see if it was just me, and it is.

Hmm, can't say I've had this happen. Did you try removing the SavedVariables file for the addon? (WTF/Account/USERNAME/SERVERNAME/CHARACTERNAME/SavedVariables/SafeTricks.lua).

(I'd actually suggest renaming it instead of deleting it, since if that fixes it, I'd like to see the file to see what is going on.)

Any ideas as to what's up with this?

The threat transfer is performed by a buff that is gained by the person that cast tricks. The receiver gains a separate buff that takes care of the damage boost.

Since there is no way to cancel buffs on other players, it cancels for Cast by you (Outgoing) only.

In all cases, all it does is cancel http://www.wowhead.com/spell=59628

Damage buff is preserved. Threat Transfer goes away.

The situation you describe is why I added the option of not doing anything if the ToTT target is a Rogue because in situations where not everyone uses the mod or has it configured identically, it can lead to a Rogue having excess threat.

Put an auto-override for hunters, they can feign death every 25 seconds anyway
