Fundamental UI  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: WoD v1.0 RELEASE
by: Shiny <3 [More]

What Is Fundamental UI?

Fundamental UI is based off one simple idea, one of which I am sure many UI builders and designers
always take into consideration, that is to include as much useful information in as little screen space as
possible, it is in essence what minimalism is meant to be and as Da Vinci would put it, the height of
sophistication. However over the years, one UI style has dominated the forefront when it came to
this idea. One we are all very aware of, chat log left, chat log right, action bars middle, minimap top right/left,
Done and dusted, and I can't comment as I also was part of that group that contributed to that UI style taking
center stage.

Fundamental WoD is an attempt to break away from that niche, taking two concept UIs I have worked on
previously and fusing them together to create this rather unique (in comparison to most current UIs) style
of interface whilst still Including well known features which I believe help contribute to effective and
efficient gameplay in any WoW gaming environment.

Installation Guide

OUT OF GAME

1. Download and extract Interface and WTF to desktop.

2. Go to your World of Warcraft directory and remove andback up your old
WTF/Interface Folders.

3. Place the new downloaded Fundamental folders into your WoW Directory.

4. Go into WTF and then into Account and rename "ACCOUNT" to your account name.

5. Go into the newly renamed "ACCOUNT" and Change "Server Name" to your server name.

6. Go into "Server Name" and change "Character Name" to your character's name.

7. Load the game and watch the pretty WoD Cinematic, load out of date addons (not that there
is any!).

8. Login to the character you wish to configure.

IN GAME

1. Type /BT4 go to profiles and copy from profile Addisun

2. Type /Grid2 go to profiles and copy from profile Addisun

3. Type /Raven go to profiles and copy from profile Addisun

4. Whilst In Raven go to Bar groups, select Class Track from the drop down top left,
select buffs along the top tab group below, scroll down to Filter List and add your
own class buffs you wish to track (should already be setup for Prot/Fury Warriors)

5. Type /KuiNamePlates go to profiles and copy from profile Addisun

6. Unlock your chat window and move to the correct area (takes some fiddling)

7. Type /reload

8. Configure your graphics settings again, it should maintain 1920x1080 but all others should
reset to default, same goes for sound.

9. If you're really fussy drag the little AtlasLoot icon around until it's in the top right
corner of the minimap.

Known Bugs/Compatability

1. Breeze is still very much in Beta and can bug out occasionally on certain follower quests

2. Fambags can be a little iffy with its categories from time to time, a simple /reloadui should do the
trick.

Enjoy

No worries, so does that mean that you will update it more often?

This Ui compilation is quite out dated, but it may still function if you update some of the addons and play around with it. To fix the issue that you and the person below you are having, you have to open up the WTF folder that came with the UI, then open up the config.wtf folder inside. Once you do that, you will notice that there are some strings that need to be edited. For example: " SET locale "enGB" " and " SET patchlist "enGB.patch.battle.net:1119/patch" ". You need to change these to the proper locales for which you play. Here is the list of strings, and just substitute the one you need for "enGB".

us.battle.net
en_US
es_MX

eu.battle.net
en_GB
es_ES
fr_FR
ru_RU
de_DE

kr.battle.net
ko_kr

tw.battle.net
zh_TW

battlenet.com . cn
zh_CN

Hope that helps.

Hello,

I'm having issues with this UI from the beginning. I downloaded the entire pack just as your instructions said, changed the Interface folder as well as the WTF folder only to find out that the change turned my client from ESRB to PEGI. And so with some irritation I had to put my original WTF folder back in order to even log onto my US client.

My question is, now. With all of the addon's and such, I can't figure out how to get the fundamental UI to actually download without all the huff and puff. I really only want the awesome look and design that you have in the photos you uploaded for this. How do I go about getting this accomplished? I'm new to the whole UI thing and right now the only bars and stuff I have is Bartender4.

Anything would be awesome. Thank you!

1920x1200

I've managed to get everything lined up correctly, or atleast i think i have for 1920x1200 sized monitors.

Though i'm not sure what i'd need to share to make it easier for others that might also use this resolution.

Text Color Changes, HELP!

Hey Shiney <3,

Still loving the addon Suite! Just 1 small issue, somehow the text colors of the quest log window, conversation window, and quest acceptance window have changed colors on me. The Quest Log text has turned to a brown/gold, making it hard to see against many backgrounds; and the conversation window/quest acceptance window text have turned to black, making them impossible to read.

Do you know which addon / config settings could be tweaked to fix this issue...any help would be greatly appreciated!

Wonder if you could tell me which addon makes the bell dinging sound when you get full holy power/shadow orbs?

Edit: Nevermind, it's Vex

Hi Shiney <3

I was wondering if you'd be able to tell me how I would go about altering the colour of the labels for the Chat box and the Skada box? (The blue text, I'm wanting to change it to green)

Other than that, i'm loving the UI

Cheers,
Nysr

*Edit*

For those who are wanting to do this too, you can change the colour of the text via the corresponding tabs in KGPanels

Hello, I'm new to this. Nice UI, I love it so far. I have some questions though!

I use Curse Client. Can I update the addons without causing any problems?
Also, is there a way to make the UI a little bit bigger. I use 1920x1080 btw.

Thanks.

I'm sorry, you misunderstood me. I wasn't talking about the slots in the bag (border). I was talking abuot the little red blizzard style buttons that are at the top, in the title area - that have to do with famBags. Those things are atrociously fugly and need reskinned somehow.

I am learning LUA and I'm getting pretty good at it. The best way to learn is to just dive in, experiment with things to learn what they do, and change what you want to to learn with. I learned a lot from FreeUI and Neav UI (which are great places to start). My UI which I haven't released yet is fully coded from the ground up without any support of other addons, like how FreeUI does. I might release it with some support for them, until I've finalized it. But not sure yet.

If you wanna learn LUA now is the time, because I believe eventually WoW won't be so popular anymore, and is slowly coming to a halt on good content being added. They seem to keep the same industry standard, which is rather boring anymore. I mostly only play WoW now for the customization, nothing else. It use to be fun for me years ago, but after playing for so many years, I just keep getting burned out.

By the way, I think Mirgui would match better in terms of skinning the windows, instead of using Aurora for that. It's already out of the box looking more close to your UI's style. If you don't know how to change the images in Aurora (which is a little more complicated than Miirgui), then you should use Mirgui anyway, it is much easier to change images in it, than Aurora and you're going to be able to get a consistent design all around.

By the way, I cannot for the life of me get this UI set up correctly by following your instructions there. The art is not in place, the minimap is not in place, the buffs are not in place and I followed all the steps exactly as you put it here, and in the readme that came with the download... Not sure what you did wrong. Maybe you should try using Reflux to help with profiles?

EDIT: I have managed to get most things in place. The only thing that I cannot get to go where it belongs is the data broker addons. The text for them and stuff are not placed where they should be, and I don't know how to get them to be. Is there not a slash command to open a menu to unlock and move them, or choose a profile for them? Just isn't working.... I had to re-adjust everything, but I can't adjust these. My screen resolution is 1920x1080 and I've read that you have already included it as a supported resolution, yet it's not working.

Originally Posted by Shiny &lt View Post

This one's pretty simple, I tried FamBags originally with LifeStep (the main UI button texture) but felt it didn't really follow suit, so I believe went with Caith in the end, to do this simply go into /masque and select addons, and then select fambags and alter that one individually without changing the entirety of the UI, it's not inside Fambags config at all.

In regards to minimap icons I never have them nor use them, I like to remove all unnecessary information and the only one I do use is BugSack and that's only from a developmental view point, everything else should be automated, and if not then I usually know the /command for it anyway.

I'm the furthest thing from LUA savvy so skinning for me is out of the question, I won't be changing much in that respect, and I was unaware that Aurora had in game options, which is something I will look into now I am aware of this, for next release (hopefully before Friday).

i dont get why pple have such huge screens just to have like nothin really to look at.
A 24" screen or 23.5" or 1920x1080 resolution (also known as a 1080p resolution) is now the industry average. In the UI world we call "showing absolutely nothing" SRE or Screen Real Estate, how much of the game world you can see, how much of the combat you can see.

The more you can see going on, the more efficient you can be in that scenario. Minimal UI's try to maximise SRE whilst utilising as little space possible to provide all the essential information.

The true brilliance of a good UI is to look good, provide the information you see, and not distract from the beauty and combat aspects of the game that you are playing. This way you can truly maximise your potential within whatever role you select as a player.
Very true; however, if it's too small and you have to squint or focus an extra second if what your pressing is the right thing... time to up the size a little from its minimalist form to semilist form.. Lol (almost minimal but not quite)
