Important
I have recently uploaded the initial release for the successor (replacement) to Extra Bars called Button Forge.
Button forge addresses several of the problems present in Extra Bars (such as Companions sometimes causing an error at first login, poor performance in certain scenerios etc), perhaps the biggest change is the ability to create as many or few bars and buttons as you choose.

Note: I have uploaded a v4.0.1 compatible version of Extra Bars now! (I only plan to provide basic support for this addon, but I will try to keep it operational for the time being... I may have a longer term plan if I find the time at a later date i.e. Extra Bars using the Button Forge engine which is a better engine)

(Both addons can operate side by side if you want to give it a try first)




Description
Adds 4 extra action bar you can drag abilities, items, macros, mounts and critters to.
This bar will not alter your existing actionbars or other user interface elements in anyway.


Project goal
To provide additional action bars to the user interface with as little learning curve or time spent configuring as possible.


Features
This bar is modelled very closely around how the standard action bars work. This includes features such as:

  • Dragging of macros, items, abilities, mounts and critters to the bar
  • range, cooldown, hotkey, etc... indicators
  • A different set of actions for each talent spec
  • Automatically update abilities to the highest rank when new abilities are learnt

Additional features include:
  • The ability to drag the bar to the desired location on screen (this can be locked in the settings screen)
  • Abilities that are unlearnt will remain in bar as a faded '?' and will become usable again once the ability is relearnt (for respeccing)
  • The ability to drag any item to the bar even if it doesn't have a use (this can help to keep track of counts of an item)
  • Dynamically set the number of buttons per bar (1 - 12)
  • Disable Tooltips
  • position the bar horizontally or vertically


Usage
  • To add buttons drag them from your inventory, spell book, macro's tab, or from other buttons into the button you want them in.
  • To change settings go to the Interface->Addons->Extra Bar menu option
  • A faint icon can be found at the top right corner of each bar, clicking this will provide some quick graphical options to configure the bar including a shortcut button to the bars configuration page
  • To bind keys to the buttons go to the 'Extra Bar' section of 'Key Bindings'

Restrictions:
  • Most settings cannot be changed while in combat
  • Actions cannot be dragged to or from the bar while in combat


Issues
  1. Macros with identical names may be switched around on the bar
  2. Items with a cooldown do not display the time remaining in the tooltip
  3. Critters and Mounts do not darken if they cannot be used
  4. the visual state of a macro that casts a mount or critter may not be displayed up to date

Notice: This mod is in beta, I will try to deal with any issues that arise as I have time but please feel free to list issues if they occur.


Planned Features

Planned for next version:
  1. Add option to allow graphical configuration options to be fully hidden
  2. Add slash commands for config options
  3. Investigate Button Facade and rActionButtonStyler support
  4. ...

Planned to be implemented by version 1.0:
  1. Provide localization support
  2. Provide full reset ability
  3. Custom interface for key bindings (to allow the next feature to be viable)
  4. Dynamic creation of extra buttons and bars (as many or few as you desire)
  5. Conditional bar display (based on macro conditionals)

Possible future features:
  1. Provide extra display info on the buttons such as cooldown times
  2. Buttonfacade or other skinning addon support ?!?

- Addressed bug where on first login Items would not trigger off EB buttons
- No longer attempt to show a tooltip for items that the player no longer holds (resulted in a silent error)

Very good addon.
Could you add some options? Such as only show in Combat.
and Could you let the spell icon turn to gray if the spell can't cast on the target, turn to red if the target out of range? Thanks very much.

@EvoTech - Yes, I introduced that change in response to a request from another user. In the upcoming version v0.8 I plan to introduce / commands for setting up the bars, as one of the commands I'll introduce setting the strata as an advanced command

@xjtufans - One of the features I've been intending to add is an advanced option that would allow using conditionals (those used in macros) to configure when the bars are displayed. When this option is introduced it should be possible to put in a conditional so that the bar only displays during combat.

I've noticed that the bars will not stay locked. I keep having to reset them everytime I zone to another area, or log in. Not a big deal, just annoying really.

No, they should be staying locked if you have set the bar to be locked (using the rightmost mini icon above the bar will lock and unlock it as well as enable/disable some graphical controls for configuring the bar).

Are there anymore details you can provide?

Yeah am haveing same issue one minute theres perfect then they move up alot.

3.2.2

Love the addon, but have had to disable it after 3.2.2. as it seems to be causing my framerate to bottom out in combat. Please help me get my Extra bars back!! Thank you

If you're able to provide them, I'll collect up a few more details to help me track down where you might be getting performance hits:

- I presume that performance using extra bars was fine prior to 3.2.2?
- Did you add or change the abilities you were using after 3.2.2 came out?
- Do you make use of a lot of macros (particularly on the standard action bars)?
- Roughly how many of the available 48 buttons in Extra Bars do you utilise?

Extra Bars was working perfectly before the patch. My husband and I both use it and neither of us had any problems whatsoever. As a hunter and a warrior, we did not have any abilities to change on the bars after the patch. We probably use about 6 macros each, all of which are on the standard bars, but many of which are rotated off the bar according to raid (i.e. "/target" macros). Of the 48 available buttons, I use 12 (4 sets of 4) to extend my standard bars on each side. These bars are used for mounts, melee and pvp abilities, and other lesser used abilities. My husband uses 3 bars and a total of 12 extra buttons, with 2 bars on top of his standard bar, one with 5 buttons (for his "Oh Shit!" abilities) and one with 3 buttons (for his interrupts), and one on the side of his standard bar with 4 buttons (for mounts). We disabled all other addons and enabled just Extra Bars to doublecheck. We only had the problem in combat, with a full 60+ framerate out of combat, and around 3-5 fps in combat with Extra Bars on.

This is my favorite addon. I love its versatility, ease of use, and customization features, and I'm missing it terribly at the moment. Thanks for taking the time to look at it for us, your time is much appreciated!

equipment manager buttons

It seems it's impossible to put buttons from the equipment manager in the bar.

For the rest its working superb.

Hi, just wanted to say this is an awesome addon. All the other bar mods seem to take over the whole screen or have predfined content when all I wanted was just a few more bars like the original ones.

I've been taking a bit of a break from WoW which is why updates to this haven't been coming through too often, but with patch 3.3 upon us I plan to tackle a few issues and update Extra Bars to the latest version of wow.

I don't have this snake, however I suspect it is along the lines of a bug that is affecting a few of the mounts as well. I've got a fix for this in testing now and hopefully can release it soon.

This is expected as the addon is not aware of the equipment manager commands. When I come to my next round of adding features I am hoping to make this one of them.

I'd love to see some sort of Autobar functionality, but only in how it had "fly out" button bars.

For example, I could create a button for Trade Skills. If I click it, a fly out menu appears with a new bar, and I put things like Cooking Fire, Smelting, and Engineering on there.
