GathererDB WoWHead  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 2.0.2013-06-15
by: Esamynn, dinesh, MentalPower, Nechckn, Norganna, norganna_uploader

WoWInterface is happy to announce that we have teamed up with Wowhead and the Norganna's AddOns Gatherer team to provide you with an exclusive downloadable Wowhead database for display in-game by Gatherer.

This addon will provide you with all the information currently in the Wowhead database showing all known locations of herbs, minerals and treasures. Now you can simply load up Gatherer, plug this database into it, and know what can be found in the zone you are in, without having to discover them yourself.

Wowhead will be providing regular dumps of their database to the Norganna team, who will then update the GathererDB Wowhead addon exclusively here on WoWInterface.

How it works
The import procedure is simple and painless. Once you have installed the AddOn and have reloaded the game, ensuring that both Gatherer and GathererDB_Wowhead are activated. When you finally log into the game, follow this procedure to import the new data into Gatherer:

  • Open Gatherer's configuration dialog.
  • Click on the red "Database" tab on the left-hand side of the dialog.
  • Click the import button in the main panel.

Make sure to add GathererDB-Wowhead to your favourites list here on WoWInterface and check back periodically to see if it's been updated, or get an email sent to you whenever they update it if you have those notifications turned on. Any time they update it, just re-download GathererDB-Wowhead and update your local copy.

Help improve the database
If you want to contribute your data back to Wowhead to continue expanding the database, please download and install the Wowhead client (available for both PC and Mac) and just follow the instructions on their site.

About Gatherer
Gatherer is an addon for herbalists, miners and treasure hunters in World of Warcraft. It's main purpose is to track the closest plants, deposits and treasure locations on your minimap.

The addon does not track like a tracking ability does, rather it "remembers" where you have found various items in the past. It does this whenever you gather (perform herbalism, mining, or opening) on an item, and records the specific map location in its history. From then on, whenever the item comes into range of being one of the closest 1-25 (configurable) items to your present location, it will pop up on the minimap.

When you view your World Map, you will also see the item locations clearly marked on each zone's map.

About Wowhead
Wowhead was created with one sole intent: to provide World of Warcraft players with an extensive database and tools to enhance their gaming experience. This website is our contribution to this wonderful game.

Our user community is a big part, if not the biggest part, of Wowhead. Almost all of our information comes from our users, through data uploads from the Wowhead Client, comments on database entries and screenshot submissions! The site also features forums, where users can ask questions, discuss important Warcraft-related topics, recommend and share favorite addons, and much more!

Updated to support Gatherer 4.0.4.

19 DEC 2010 Updated the node list and have included what data is available for the gigantic changes seen in WoW 4.x.

29 DEC 2008 Corrected some inconsistencies between GathererDB and Gatherer. Included more node locations.

05 DEC 2008 Corrected issues in the script pertaining to Icecrown, node IDs, and a few more nodes included in the DB.

04 DEC 2008 Corrected Icecrown naming, items should now appear in that zone.

I get an error after loading WoW. Looks like the DB needs to have the spaces converted to underscores.

Re: Re: GathererDB_Wowhead_2008-12-02 Released

All,

Sorry about that, will see what we can do to get a new one up soon.

Thank you for your patience!

Nikk

Edit: Looks like the script had some issues changing the new zones from Wowhead into zones for Gatherer... Grabbing a few folks once they are up for the day to try and resolve this asap.

Will update more once some idea of a time frame is determined.

Thank you!

For those whom posted after I did, I'm pretty sure its because of the error we all posted. No need to flog the poor horse until it gets reshod. Nikk's even taking it out back for us. d<_<

I also noticed that the DB_WowheadMain.lua file doesn't have the Northrend herbs in the list, maybe that might cause problems too?

Question Smaller size than last version?

The pervious version's DB_WowheadData.lua file is 126,764 bytes. The new one is about 1/2 that.

Does this really contain all the data?

The import of the database isn't working for me on the German version. Whenever I click the "Import"-button the only thing that happens is that Gatherer is disabled (minimap-icon changes from coloured to gray).

Deleted the saved variables of Gatherer for the whole account and the specific char I tried the import on.

Thanks for the reply.

1. I was aware that nodes are collected in sets which have interesting timings as to when they are available.

2. I have noticed that if I follow gatherers hud to a node that I have personally collected, a few rare nodes fail to give the green inspection ring. After taking note of that nodes location I made a point of checking this behaviour over a number of days. Eventually I removed that node from my dataset, guessing that blizz had re-organised that node out.

3. When I first imported wowhead's dataset I thought great, I now have something which is telling where I may potentially find nodes. I was not under that assumption that each node in the data would mean I got a node that would be immediately available to me. With that in mind I picked a location and started to methodically trace round the likely locations for nodes, whilst checking where I was in relation to the wowhead data. After doing this for about a week I came to the conclusion that the data I was following from wowhead was seriously out of data. Why? appart from finding no active nodes at the locations suggested I was finding plenty of nodes not in the data.

4. I log on an number of times during the day, sometimes I do a farming circuit as soon as I log, other times I play with my alts for a variable period of time before doing a little farming. I always farm in the same location, and do so 2 or 3 times each day.

So you see where my comment about cleaning the out of date data from the sets released to us. Whilst the new data for wotlk will be surprisingly useful and accurate, I suspect that as you examine progressively older areas the data becomes more and more meaningless. Of course this is assuming that blizz are doing some re-arranging of their node sets, either planned or not so planned.

I do have a suggestion prompted by one of the posts I read, possibly yours. I would like the ability to use 2 datasets. One would be my personally collected nodes, the other the mass collected by all contributers. Changing which one you want loaded would mean a manadatory reload of the ui, as only one dataset could be accessed at a time. I think this may be useful because you get your own dataset which you know is 'good', and also rather smaller than the one collected by everyone. The larger dataset would be nice to use as a reference, so you could get answers to 'where in xxxx would I be most likely to find yyyy or where should I go if I need lots of yyyy.
