Power Auras Classic  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 4.23
by: Smacker, jimwebb9, Member_4, Meorawr

Mists of Pandaria Notice

The official 5.0 release will be ready in a couple of weeks time for general testing. Until then an unofficial patch is available here.

Credits
Sinsthar (base & original concept) - Garstiger (continued) - Dridtz (continued) - Smacker & Meorawr (continued)

Background
Designed to give visual or audible cues to the user in response to in-game events, such as gaining buffs or debuffs. Types of cues range from simple texture displays to stack counters, timers to timer bars, and are fully user-configurable. Can be animated or have sounds attached as well.

How to Use
Tutorials will be written and linked here soon, stay tuned!

Reporting Issues
Go to the CurseForge site and Submit a Ticket. Please do not suggest features via the ticket system, and instead use our UserVoice forum.

If you do submit a ticket, we will reply if more information is requested. If no additional information is given in response, we will mark the ticket as Invalid. Feature suggestions are immediately marked invalid.

Feature Requests
There is a UserVoice forum for adding and discussing new features. Submit all feature requests here, but please do not duplicate requests. Duplicates will be exterminated. Painfully.

Version 4.23

TOC bump to 4.3.

Bug Fixes:
Fixed an issue with linked auras where multiple auras in the chain are disabled. Probably.
Fixed a large amount of debuff ID types.
Fixed divide by zero issue with PowerAurasRole.lua, and any other possible issues with Health/Power type auras.
Fixed a possible issue with the stances dropdown not filling correctly.

Version 4.22

Additions:
Added Invert Timer support to Totems. That's right Shamans, I love you.
Limited Strata support has been patched in, there's no configuration element for this (it's unsupported). To change the strata either export an aura, modify the export string (add "strata:LOW;" to the end, replacing LOW with the desired strata) and reimport, or modify your saved variables.
Aura #182 was missing. This has been rectified.

Changes:
Fixed a bug with chat output when a sound file was loaded and played but the API said otherwise.
Aura glow defaults to off.
Updated tooltip for Pet Stance type.

Removals:
Removed some unused files.

Version 4.21

This release is 4.2 compatible.

Additions:
Added Pet Stance activation type, which will activate if your pet is in Aggressive/Assist/Defensive/Passive mode.

Changes:
Removed 4.1 compatibility code.
Minor changes to Blizzard options UI, to compensate for the ridiculously large amount of weight it put on.
Pulse animation (while not in Old Animations mode) has had some minor changes done to it, it is now similar to the Blizzard one in terms of scale and smooths a little bit differently. These changes have effectively fixed the animation to prevent animations flickering.

Bug Fixes:
Buffs and debuffs are now properly checked on the whole group.
Happiness auras are gone. Really now. If you had them, they'll be fixed, I PROMISE.
Aura exports should fail less.

Version 4.20

This version has the codename "Yo dawg I heard you like updates".

Bug Fixes:
Blizzard bumped the client version number in their most recent fast patch which triggered some 4.2 PTR compatibility code to activate, this in turn may have inadvertently broken Spell Alert auras. Hence the fix.

Version 4.19

Bug Fixes:

Holy Power should be working again, sorry guys. We didn't pick this up in the testing since there were no changes to the UI.

Version 4.18

Additions:

Higher quality versions of Blizzard's spell overlay textures have been included, as well as some new ones.

Changes:

Multiple default settings have been modified, including but not limited to Locked/Unlocked Auras, Not Resting and Allow Inspections.
The Pulse animation has had some improvements done to it behind the scenes. It's still broken as a result of the API changes.
Text Auras have had their animations forcefully disabled until Blizzard fixes the animation bugs.

Bug Fixes:

Players using Spell Cooldown auras for pet abilities should once again find that their auras do not need the friendly target condition to be met.
Spell Cooldown auras should no longer freak out if the spell is referenced as an ID number, but no longer exists.

Known Issues:

None.

Version 4.17

This release is compatible with the 4.1 patch, it is not backwards compatible with the 4.0 client.

There are known issues with this release dealing with animations, these appear to be due to bugs within the animation API itself and the only known workaround is to switch on Old Animations.

ADDED: A new option is available which will adjust the behaviour of the export system, if you were experiencing a bug where your aura exports were empty then you should enable this as a workaround.
ADDED: Unit Match activation type. This is still a beta quality activation type and may not always perform as expected, please report any bugs through the ticket system on Curse.
ADDED: Couple more debuff ID's.
CHANGE: Action usable macro fix has been reverted, caused more issues than it solved.
REMOVED: Animation FPS slider, as Blizzard has dropped support for this.

Version 4.16a

FIX: Stacks work again, sorry guys!

Version 4.16

ADDED: Lots of class and engineering debuff ID's have been added, credit goes to Vaugn2 for assisting us greatly with this.
ADDED: Ability to track Buff Type.
ADDED: Stacks can now be displayed in their original sizing format - check the "Wider Digits" box to do so.
CHANGE: Export dialog will now display a reason for transfer failure.
CHANGE: Export dialog also now shows a timer, and correctly updates even if the dialog is closed.
FIX: Spell Alert now functions properly with procs such as Lava Surge!
FIX: Now works with the 4.1 PTR (there is an issue with animations on the PTR, use the Old Animations to bypass this).
FIX: Auras should now initialize correctly and hopefully will not require a reload to work properly.

Hi - bug report here. I just installed Power Auras 2.5.6a and am trying to get power auras to show when battle shout, commanding shout, PWF/PoF, and Gift/Mark are on me. (I'm also using it to check particular debuffs, but debuffs appear to be working fine.)

The problem is that power auras activated by buffs display their Begin Animation very frequently, while already activated, not just when being applied. For example, my Battle Shout power aura is set to:

Activation by: Buff
"Battle Shout" (no quotes)
Use own texture: Yes
Stacks =0
Ignore uppercase is checked, all other options are not checked.

Whenever I do not have Battle Shout up, no aura is displayed. Whenever I do have the buff up, the aura is displayed. Whenever I lose the buff, the aura goes away, and displays the End Animation in doing so. When I gain Battle Shout, I gain the power aura, and it plays the Begin Animation in doing so. However, it appears that many events trigger this Begin Animation, not just gaining the buff. For example, if I Bloodrage and then cast Battle Shout, the aura zooms in and stays. I then change stances; the aura, which was already there, displays the "zoom in" animation again, then continues to stay. Bloodrage fades: I get the "zoom in" animation again, and the aura stays.

When testing the mod in combat, events other than buffs gains/losses appear to also trigger the Begin Animation. For example, after entering combat, casting Battle Shout, and then doing nothing but autoattacks, the power aura continues to occasionally display the zooming in animation. (The animation doesn't trigger with a set frequency - it could be tied to rage gains/losses, or dodge/miss events, or ...? I have no idea).

In the meanwhile, I've disabled Begin Animations; a fix, however, would be wonderful, as start animations make it a lot easier to notice when a particular buff goes up. Thanks.

Reason im asking is cause for certain encounters, such as the Eredar Twins and the Conflag debuff they cast, there is no debufficon to set PAuras to detect, just an emote in the chat, followed by the cast of the spell, and the screen, as a melee, looks like a neonfield making it kind of difficult to read any text on the screen without playing around with your cameraangle, which is annoying.
It's an oft-requested feature addition (which doesn't say all that much if I think it's out of scope ),
but some of the people requesting it made a good case for it (Kawolski and others further down these comments).

A big part of the addon deals with "status" (the presence or absence of buffs/debuffs etc).
Spell alerting is obviously a different proposition.
For one the end-conditions are not as well defined (or at all).

I'm still thinking on how to implement it, but it will probably make it in, down the road.

Makes sense. I more or less figured that out a little bit after posting. I ended up using Cooldownwatch for the "not ready" spells/items and set up a row of mini "ready" icons under my character with Power Auras. Works great. Thanks again for the sweet addon.

Action Usable bug?

Fantastic mod, thanks for making it.

I'm having issues with the "action usable" function. Unless I'm doing something wrong it doesn't really work for item and spell cooldowns very well.

It appears to only activate if a spell/item is "usable", meaning you are in the correct form, you have a friendly targetted etc. Unfortunately an item being off cooldown and being usable are two different things that don't always exist together.

Example - Swiftmend, only usable if and when you have a friendly targetted with a Rejuvenation/Regrowth ticking away. In this case if both of those functions are not true at the time that the spell comes off of cooldown the aura will not show.

Is this working as intended? I thought the main use for this function was for tracking cooldowns but I could be wrong.

Version 2.5.6a should have some new functionality regarding temporary weapon enchants.

To create an aura that will activate based on a specific temporary enchant:
- select "Weapon Enchant" as activation trigger.
- type a partial or complete name of the temporary buff.

To filter the temporary enchant by slot:
- select "Weapon Enchant".
- prepend the temporary buff name with 'main' or 'off' and a forward slash '/' for mainhand and offhand respectively.
Example: 'off/windfury' should show an aura (and timer if selected) only for the offhand weapon.

'main' and 'off' are optional.
Omitting them and inputing only the temporary buff name will make the aura trigger if any/either of the weapons is buffed with it.

If you want the old functionality of the aura activating for any temporary enchant
on the weapon (not just a specific one) you can input the partial or full name of the weapon instead of the buff name.

Edit: Ok I can see why it's not working as expected.
The tooltip is misleading, putting "main", "off" or "both" in the buffname field has no effect.
As it is now it's checking the name of the temporary enchant and activates
by looking at the mainhand weapon first, and the offhand weapon only if it's not found on the main.

In essence the offhand weapon will only be checked if the mainhand weapon doesn't have the temporary enhancement,
or if the weapons are enhanced with different temporary enchants
(for example different poisons).
This is not the case with windfury obviously.

There will be a fix for it in the next version (once I decide what's the expected behavior)

This was working as the tooltip hint indicates on Sinsthar's last version (2.34):
Entering the keywords "main", "off" or "both" in the buffname field checked the weapons for any temporary enchant.
It meant that the aura would trigger for wf, stones, poison, oil or whatever happened to be on the weapon,
no way to have aura displayed based on specific temporary enchant.

If that's the desired behavior it's easy to revert to that code.

Feature was broken in Power Auras Continued (which I incorporated when starting this project).

Hiya,

I seem to be getting an issue with weapon buffs, only the Off hand weapon tho - main hand works absolutely fine. Cant figure out whats wrong - after hours of attempts i thought it's about time i posted here

I'm a shaman, and want and aura shown for when my Windfury is out. So far i've managed to get the main hand aura working with no issues at all and was real easy to set up but the off hand just doesnt want to work.

setup by setting as weapon buff and using the weapon's name.
using main, off, or both as the tooltip says has no effect whatsoever even on main hand, atho the debug message seems to recognise the buff as actve, nothing actually changes.

Doesnt matter what weapon i use - even if i have the same weapon in both hands, main hand aura is fine, off hand isnt :/

Any suggestions?

Re: Pets?

For my hunter, I want an aura if my pet's health is below 75%. (reminder to Mend Pet). Even by adding my pet's name I can't get it to trigger.

For my warlock, I want an aura if my pet's mana is at 100% while we're in combat. (reminder to Dark Pact).

Thanks!
With 2.5.6 you can do both.
For the hunter pet you want:
- a Health threshold trigger set at 75%.
- check UnitName checkbox and input "pet".

For the warlock pet:
- a Mana threshold trigger set at 99 or 100%
- checking the "inverse" checkbox next to slider
(this will make it so the threshold becomes a "high" threshold
instead of the default for mana warnings which is "low")
- check UnitName checkbox and input "pet". (same as above)

If someone knows I would be thankful for some help.
At the main window where all the auras you've configured are listed as icons,
you'll see on the left 2 sections:
- Character effects on top.
- Global effects below.

Creating auras while having selected the Character effects section, keeps them for the character.
Making auras while having selected the Global effects section enables them for all toons.

I have pet support in my working copy through the "UnitName" field.
When the user inputs "pet" as name there.

I'm contemplating adding an extra checkbox "pet" instead,
but I don't see a good reason for it plus the editor is becoming a bit cluttered already,
the less checkboxes the better.

Kawolski made some reasonable arguments about requested features so there's a good chance
most of that list will make it into the addon at some point.

Garstiger was kind enough to submit a sizable patch for making "Text Auras" possible (Kawolski item #7)
but it is not release ready
(there's issues with timers, some animations, editing of existing auras and changing their type, among other things).
Still, it is coming along nicely and it will be in one of next versions.

At the moment any new features are more likely to appear in the WotLK version first,
and then backported to the Live version (maybe :P).

I'd really not want to duplicate the amount of work for a version that is destined for the recycle bin in a month or two (when patch 3.0 hits)
