Neuron  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 1.4.18
by: Soyier, Maul

Neuron development is on an indefinite hiatus upon the launch of WoW 10.0. If you are interested in helping with development efforts to push the project forward into Dragonflight, please reach out to Soyier.

Introduction:
Neuron is a full featured action Bar addon for World of Warcraft: Shadowlands

Important Note: Neuron tentatively works with World of Warcraft: Classic and The Burning Crusade: Classic, but none of our developers actively play Classic, so support and bug fixes are offered without any guarantee. Realistically, many bugs in Classic require max level characters to debug, and none of us have any such characters. Outside help with Classic is always welcome!

Example:

Theme Support:
Neuron inherits all theming courtesy of the Masque addon. Neuron has full Masque compatibility, and the theming options found in Masque are quite in-depth, not to mention the robust portfolio of skins made to support Masque. In short, you can make your bars look any way you like!

Features:
  • Neuron features an unlimited number of macros. You can create as many bars/buttons as you want/need per character!
  • Are you a clicker extraordinaire? As many buttons on the screen you want where you want, when you want!
  • Macros the size of Texas! Up to 1024 characters in length!
  • Maul's unique mouse-over key-binding system - where the mouse-over binding system was born!
  • Many other of the favorite desired bar addon features and then some!
  • And, last but not least, MASQUE support!

Graphical Editor:
Neuron contains a graphical bar editor that allows for nearly endless customization to bar shape, size, orientation, and much more! Further, Neuron has neither the limitations on max number of bars nor on the max number of buttons per bar, as you might find in addons such as Bartender4 or Dominoes.

Disclaimer:

Neuron is a fork of the amazing Ion Action Bars addon started by Connor Chenoweth aka Maul, for World of Warcraft Legion and onwards. All credit for the bulk of this addon should go to him accordingly, along with SLOKnightFall for his maintainership throughout the years. I, Soyier, take no credit for the idea or implementation of this addon prior to my adoption of the code in the Fall quarter of 2017.

Same issue here. I'm also not getting a minimap button. (Minimap button error below)
Is this one of many bugs? The only way the minimap icon can be throwing that error is if you don't have a database loaded, which is a big issue.
I've got several errors at startup, that's the only one specific to Neuron. Need me to look through the others?

I've put out a new minor release to help smooth over some database transitions. In general:

If you are having issues with missing bars/buttons or lua errors with version 1.0.1, it is because there was something weird with your old-style profile that somehow freaked out the database migration script. Unfortunately, I can't do anything to help with that, as there's just an impossible amount of different combinations of things in the old style profile that could be causing it. Likewsie, the whole reason for the NEW profile system that came with 1.0 is to make sure stuff like this doesn't happen anymore. The last system was fragile and prone to failure (as many of you have seen first hand). The new system is not.

So, if your game loads without any LUA errors and youre missing a couple of bars or button contents, consider this my sincere apology during our big version migration. However, if your game loads WITH lua errors left and right, please do a profile refresh, as annoying as that is.

Again, sorry for all this. Errors like this aren't likely to occur again from 1.0 forward.

Announcing Neuron v1.0!

Hello Guys,

After nearly a year of development (both fun and torturous), I am happy to finally make available to you all version 1.0 of Neuron. The reason for the major version bump is due to a series of milestones I set early on:

1) Modernize and refactor the code base
2) Fix all the major blocker bugs
3) Rewrite the database system
4) Rewrite the bar/button system
5) Port the add-on to being properly object oriented
6) Fix all of the major performance issues facing the add-on
7) Get rid of all the random taint warnings/errors
8) Port the entire base add-on framework to Ace3

And as of a couple days ago, I was able to finally check the last of these, and the hardest I might add (#4), off the list. I believe the add-on to be in the best code shape it has ever been, with the code being about 10,000 lines lighter than when I first began. Lastly, with the 1.0 release, the code is in fantastic shape to not only repair, restore, and update, but to add features to!

This took a long time, and I'd like to thank you all for all your patience with me as I learned my way around the world of add-on development. I know my Ph.D. thesis work has pulled me away here an there, but we made it! This release is a big deal for me, and it is as much of a gift for myself for the holidays as it is for all of you.

I sincerely wish you all a happy holidays, and thank you all for your support, kind words, and bug reports over the past year. Cheers to 2019, when the real development work is going to kick into full gear. And lastly, if you guys like the work that's being done (and want to help me justify to my girlfriend the hundreds of hours I pour into this code), please consider a small donation. And if that's not your thing, please just keep spreading the word about Neuron to the rest of the community.

Going into 2019, coming in versions 1.1, 1.2, and 1.3 will be the newly written GUI, hopefully the new flyout system, and lots and lots of highly requested features.

You guys rock!

-Soyier

Calling for testers!

I have another big (giant even) change coming to the fundamentals of the add-on. I completely rewrote the add-on startup system, the way bars and buttons are internally stored, and I rewrote the profile database to match. This new system is SO MUCH BETTER! This is the big set of changes I've been pondering for the better part of a year now, and with this new system add-on development is going to be super buttery now.

To accommodate the new system, I wrote a database migration script that will port version 1.2 profiles to the 1.3 spec. And for me, everything is working out great, and this new system allowed us to remove about 1000 lines of code. However, all of the releases work great, and I only end up hearing about the bugs after the fact. Soo, I'm calling for testers! Please test the latest code in MASTER and let me know if it breaks for you

Be warned, this is alpha. Backup your WTF folder.

Thanks for all the work you have done on this addon. The design of the flyouts is really good & unmatched by any other addons out there (that still work) - especially the spell filters. I really hope you are able to keep that design in place when you rewrite it.

Please help me
You can use the flyout creator in the button editor to make the syntax for you, just FYI. Just enter all the stuff you want and hit generate, then you can copy and paste the macro
The editor gave me this:
/flyout ,spell::LINEAR:TOP:BOTTOM:1:CLICK

which is resaulting in an empty button with a yellow flyout arrow, but I cant place spells there.
If I try the whole button gets replaced with the spell, it wouldn't add to the flyout menu.

Where do I tell the flyout menu what spells I'd like to have in there?
You enter them in the blank box labeled "key"? Or something like that
Sorry, I can't just get it to work.
No matter what I type in the "Key" Box and copy/paste the generated string, it gives me something like this:

#showtooltip spell-x()
/cast [nobtn:2] spell-x()
/stopmacro [nobtn:2]
/flyout ,spell:spell-x:spell-y:LINEAR:TOP:BOTTOM:1:CLICK

I tried countless variations and stuff, I am kind of a programmer myself. But I just can't figure it out.

Could you or anybody else please tell me the correct macro syntax for a flyout menu with 2 buttons (spell-x and spell-y) ?
I thin I can figure out the rest from there
I can when I get home from work
This was a tricky one, two problems at the same time, but I finally got it!!!

1. Spells must be separated by a commata "," --> /flyout ,spell:Spell-X,Spell-Y,Spell-Z:[...]
2. The flyout doesn't seem to work on mouseover, which greatly added to my confusion

I testet it with just Neuron and Masque activated, flyouts won't open on mouseover, at least with this syntax:

#showtooltip Fishing()
/cast [nobtn:2] Fishing()
/stopmacro [nobtn:2]
/flyout ,spell:spell-x,spell-y,spell-z:LINEAR:BOTTOM:TOP:1:MOUSE

Thanks for your help so far!

Have no worries, Neuron replaced Bartender on my client for good
The ability to have unlimited custimized bars of any kind is -indispensable-, at least for me.

If you get the flyout menus overhauled I don't see why this addon shouldn't be the new benchmark for Action-Bar Addons.

It would be nice if you could add and remove buttons to flyout menus by drag and drop, since editing the macro by hand isn't really comfortable.
Apart from that it works perfect in it's current state.
Btw: Mouseover functionality started working again after I restartet the whole client
