GathererDB WoWHead  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 2.0.2013-06-15
by: Esamynn, dinesh, MentalPower, Nechckn, Norganna, norganna_uploader

WoWInterface is happy to announce that we have teamed up with Wowhead and the Norganna's AddOns Gatherer team to provide you with an exclusive downloadable Wowhead database for display in-game by Gatherer.

This addon will provide you with all the information currently in the Wowhead database showing all known locations of herbs, minerals and treasures. Now you can simply load up Gatherer, plug this database into it, and know what can be found in the zone you are in, without having to discover them yourself.

Wowhead will be providing regular dumps of their database to the Norganna team, who will then update the GathererDB Wowhead addon exclusively here on WoWInterface.

How it works
The import procedure is simple and painless. Once you have installed the AddOn and have reloaded the game, ensuring that both Gatherer and GathererDB_Wowhead are activated. When you finally log into the game, follow this procedure to import the new data into Gatherer:

  • Open Gatherer's configuration dialog.
  • Click on the red "Database" tab on the left-hand side of the dialog.
  • Click the import button in the main panel.

Make sure to add GathererDB-Wowhead to your favourites list here on WoWInterface and check back periodically to see if it's been updated, or get an email sent to you whenever they update it if you have those notifications turned on. Any time they update it, just re-download GathererDB-Wowhead and update your local copy.

Help improve the database
If you want to contribute your data back to Wowhead to continue expanding the database, please download and install the Wowhead client (available for both PC and Mac) and just follow the instructions on their site.

About Gatherer
Gatherer is an addon for herbalists, miners and treasure hunters in World of Warcraft. It's main purpose is to track the closest plants, deposits and treasure locations on your minimap.

The addon does not track like a tracking ability does, rather it "remembers" where you have found various items in the past. It does this whenever you gather (perform herbalism, mining, or opening) on an item, and records the specific map location in its history. From then on, whenever the item comes into range of being one of the closest 1-25 (configurable) items to your present location, it will pop up on the minimap.

When you view your World Map, you will also see the item locations clearly marked on each zone's map.

About Wowhead
Wowhead was created with one sole intent: to provide World of Warcraft players with an extensive database and tools to enhance their gaming experience. This website is our contribution to this wonderful game.

Our user community is a big part, if not the biggest part, of Wowhead. Almost all of our information comes from our users, through data uploads from the Wowhead Client, comments on database entries and screenshot submissions! The site also features forums, where users can ask questions, discuss important Warcraft-related topics, recommend and share favorite addons, and much more!

05 DEC 2008 Corrected issues in the script pertaining to Icecrown, node IDs, and a few more nodes included in the DB.

04 DEC 2008 Corrected Icecrown naming, items should now appear in that zone.

Maybe Im not allowed to do this and if so delete my post.... I have a fairly large DB for Gatherer, 19.338 nodes. I host it on my own homepage.

I have just zipped my own Gatherer.lua file and uploaded it to my homepage. I dont take any responsibility for its usability or virus free or something... but it should be since I have a current anti virus program (Microsoft security essentials). Anyway... it should be safe and here is the file

http://www.varja.se/wow/gatherer/

I will most likely not check back for posts here but I will update this file now and then.

I suggest making a backup of your own file and/or rename it before copy my file into the folder.

If you don't know how to replace the Gatherer.lua file I suggest you don't try it without someone guiding you.

I still need a lot of nodes and if you got a large DB dont hesitate to try and contact me [email protected]

Hey, Today I downloaded GathererDP WoWHead, installed and I have a problem.
I see in some locations no mining ore or anything else.
Borean Tundra is perfectly OK, but for example in Dragonblight or Sholazar there is no mark here. Could someone help me please?

GOOD NEWS everyone, i wrote my own wowhead gathering script that dumps a DB_WowheadData.lua file based on current wowhead info.. its sliiiightly buggy by having a few treasure objects that gatherer itself doesnt expect and i forced it to ignore zones it doesnt handle (such as in dungeons) but for us this doesnt matter. i uploaded it as a patch file at http://www.wowinterface.com/download...icialdata.html and yes the author's of gathererdb can incorporate it officially if you want

I'm sure this may have been asked/covered, but I openly admit my laziness in looking.

Is there an issue with the latest db? I'm currently leveling in the Hinterlands and I see ZERO nodes. The same across every zone I've come across so far. I've imported the DB twice (just to make sure) and still nada.

Only updated DB since Cata is still from December... I've been uploading a lot to Wowhead and would like to have a better DB.

Frozen Herb fix

Big thanks to everyone that's helped with this great mod.

I found a bug (in Lloyd's version) while leveling in Dragonblight, "frozen herbs" would not show even though the import went successful and I could find what looked like it should be the frozen herbs, but something wasn't right. After more digging I found that DB_wowheaddata.lua had frozen herbs listed as 190173, while everything else showed it as 190175. I fixing that line, deleted my WTF folder, and did a new import; worked perfect this time.

TLDR:
To fix Frozen Herbs, open file DB_wowheaddata.lua and replace 190173 with 190175.

Simplified even more for Linux users:
sed -i 's/190173/190175/g' /<path_to_addons>/GathererDB_Wowhead/DB_WowheadData.lua

No, I don't game on Linux, I'm just bored and a little drunk

Thanks

I just want to say thanks for all the Addons and the work you do updating them. I have used Gatherer both before and after DB was made available. DB was a great help but y'all made sure that the base addon was updated first. Absolutely correct priorities and thanks again for all the hard work!

wish you well

I hope you and your family are OK though both the floods in Queensland and the recent cyclone.

For all you inconsiderate trolls: say thanks that we even have an addon. This guy lives in a place that has been through a huge natural disaster. I would suggest that world of warcraft is kind of a low priority atm.

Take care Nechckn and look after your family first.

Kindly remember that we are all volunteers in this project, and, although we do significant planning, when there are unexpected life events, such as catastrophic flooding, major illness, and simply time constraints, then some things wait. Most folks can understand that, those who cannot are welcome to make their own AddOn or do other things until this, specific sub-AddOn is updated.

For now, the workaround posted below seems to work great for folks, we recommend using it, or getting the data by Gathering it with your friends, guild, and party. We ensured that the main functions of the Gatherer AddOn were ready for 4.x, along with the entirety of Auctioneer - that all takes a huge amount of time and effort. Hopefully, the postponement of a "nice to have" sub-AddOn does not make like too rough for folks, but, again, there are some things that are more important and it will be attended to when there is time.

Rather than posting updates, will simply leave it to the "favorites" function here on WoWInterface. That will alert folks when it is ready, we will not bother with updates, since they are apparently misinterpreted.

Happy Gatherering,

Nikk

By "other branch" he is referring to the github repository. It took me a while to figure this out.

Nechckn,

I've certainly been served well by Gatherer for a long time, and am also sad that this very useful sub-addon has not been updated with new location data. I place no blame, and as a programmer myself, certainly understand when your projects just don't end up when and how you had projected.

I like your suggestion to "make their own AddOn or do other things," because that exact mentality has motivated me to learn and grow a lot over the years. I've made all sorts of things for myself because nobody else had made them yet. So, I had an idea, and I've some questions about it maybe you could answer for me.

The idea is to make a scraper to take all the data that Gatherer needs from WoWhead and format it into a savedvariables file automatically. I would've thought this would already be done automatically, as it would be a big pain to manually collect this much information via copy and paste. And yet, if it were automatic, it should be as easy to update this as hitting a button and giving it a few minutes, then uploading the new file. So is my assumption correct? Nobody has built a scraper to automatically pull this data from WoWhead?

Secondly, is there some WoWhead API that can be accessed to retrieve database entries in a more friendly format than scraping it from raw HTML? Is there a WoWhead policy in place to disallow any automated access to its database such as I'm describing?

Third, if I actually saw it through to finish this project (always dubious when we're talking about me :S), would you guys like to make use of it? Or is your regular process better, if somewhat blocked at the moment?

Thanks for answering my questions.
