LureCombustion - discontinued

Version: 2.1.1
by: lurelure [More]

I decided to discontinue this addon, since there are others who do the job much better.

LureCombustion is a DoT timer that also displays the damage of the last tick for each DoT. This way, it should help players maintain DoTs, and to decide when to use Combustion. You get 4 bars (Ignite, Living Bomb, Pyroblast and Frostfire Bolt).

The addon is only enabled for mages, and hides itself when you're not fire specced.

Configuration:
/lurecombustion lock (to move it)
/lurecombustion scale number
(or /lurec)

2.1.1
- Bugfix (texture)

2.1
- Movable and scalable

I am downloading now, but in the mean time:
Could you consider option to hide out of combat.
Also to hide when in combat, but mounted: I am thinking Argent tournaments, when you mount a fight with Lance.
No biggie, but still would be less intrusive.

It is now movable and scalable, so more people should be able to use it now.

I've been trying to figure out how to calculate combustion damage/dps based on the DoTs currently on the target, and it seems to behave as expected regarding Ignite (no haste/crit scaling), but the others remain a mystery.

I hadn't really thought about the difference between configuring aesthetics and usability (size). Will add slash commands for at least moving and scaling as soon as I get the time to do so (probably this weekend).

I'm pretty new to this whole addon development thing, so I really appreciate all the feedback

And thanks for the reply.

Yes, oUF_MovableFrames is only designed for oUF frames (it actually checks for an oUF install at the top of movable.lua, among many other specific functions). Was just bringing it up as a point of contrast to having something simple...and something "too" simple.

And yes, there is always the balance to be found between simplicity and...usability (and/or feature creep). But the problem with having a freestanding UI component such as this that cannot be resized: with fixed pixel width/height, at different screen resolutions the mod will take up more (or less) screen space. Which will be, depending on the resolution, too small for some people to see or take up far too much UI space.

Choosing fonts, colors, etc. are something else entirely (aesthetic only) and have no bearing on how intrusive and/or impossible to see the bars are depending on screen resolution.

There are ways to modify the frame pixel sizes in the LUA currently for those familiar with LUA (in LureCombustionLib.lua on lines 21, 22, etc.). Could also more simply have the sizing moved to the top of LureCombustion.lua if you really (really) don't want to add in-game resizing.

Anyway, thanks again for the reply and GL with the mod.

Makes sense. Thanks for the input

I'll probably add an option/command/something for moving it (how do i make oUF_MovableFrames discover it, and is it even meant to move non-oUF frames?)

The addon is not meant to be higly configurable with size/scale/fonts/whathot. People can use NeedToKnow for that. Its just meant to be a simple way to track dot time/damage for fire mages. If I can be arsed to figure out how to calculate dot dps, then that'll be in, but that probably requires lots of haste tracking etc.

For now, it is what it is.

Looks decent...without having tried it yet. One thing that won't increase the complexity, but will make this mod more of an option for more people: the ability to move the bars in-game.

Sure, LUA isn't a problem here. But not being able to move third-party UI elements in-game (especially bars that take up a decent amount of space) is a deal breaker here. As it is I'm sure for many other people.

A command line on/off or heck, even a script would be sufficient. oUF_MovableBars has been available for a year . Be nice to see this mod be able to be moved in-game as well. Its more of a hassle to change X/Y pixel locations in the LUA then have to log back on to see the results than it is to run a script/command in-game.

As to a bar mod not being able to adjust the size/scale of the bars in-game, I won't go there now .

That was my original plan, yes. They're the same size as my oUF layout's healthbars (which can't be resized). I appreciate the input

Not really sure if i need to make an ingame config at all. Sounds alike a lot of hassle for a fairly simple addon.

Just wanted to say that you really should keep this as minimal as possible as in config's and such, just my 2 c. Keep it up!

There isn't much use of a running total, unless its a running dps total of all the dots. That's what Combustion uses to calculate its damage. And it would be a pain in the behind to calculate.

I'll see what i can do.

In other news, I plan on redoing this whole addon, so that it shows bars (like a dot timer), with names and damage values inside. Possibly also ticks. We'll see.
