Chat Timestamps  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 1.6
by: Skizo [More]

Description

This very tiny mod adds a customizable timestamp (defaulted to [HH:MM:SS] format) to every chat window there is.

Unlike some other addons for timestamps (just like Prat plugin for instance), this works perfectly with every Combat Log window aswell.

Commands

/cts format <timeformat> - sets timestamp format
/cts status - displays settings

Format Examples

Assuming time is 14:50:21
%H:%M:%S - Prints out "14:50:21"
%I:%M:%S %p - Prints out "02:50:21 pm"

More infos about time formats can be found here.

Note: Since version 1.5, two custom types have been added, #H and #I which replace %H and %I. Both of them are case sensitive and provide an easy way to have non padded hours (07 will become 7 and so on).

Color Codes

As of patch 1.4 you can now use color codes too. The format is the following:

|cAARRGGBB-text here-|r
AA = Alpha, RR = Red, GG = Green, BB = Blue

So, for example, if you want a standard 24h red timestamp, you would use |cFFFF0000[%H:%M:%s]|r as your format.

v1.06
- Fixed/Updated TOC

v1.05
- Fixed a typo which prevented custom format to reload properly upon login
- Added two custom formats #H and #I to remove the trailing zeroes from hours

v1.04
- Added escape codes after Silenia's request

Tiny question... or two

Can I use this with Prat? The problem I have with the time in Prat is there is a bit of unused space if a sentence runs into a second line. If yours will work with Prat and I don't have that unused space, i would much rather use your addon for the time.

Will your addon work with HitsMode?

Is there an option to change the color for the time?

Many thanks!

Quite a few questions... let's see...

Yes, it can be used along with Prat, I do that too. You might want to disable Prat's timestamp though, or you will have 2 instead of one.

About the "unused space", as far as I know that's standard. Little line indentation to avoid confusion. I must admit though that I'm not sure. If the indentation is caused by Prat, then it's quite sure that my addon shouldn't do that. If it's standard, I'm afraid that nothing can fix that (unless proven wrong, ofc

And about HitsMode, I have no idea, but I'm quite positive about it. For the same reason why it works with Prat aswell. It just intercepts the messages and adds a timestamp on top, and then sends back to the system, nothing more nothing less.

And about the colors... I must admit I forgot to try, but I think so... You should try with a string like "|cFFFF0000%H:%M:%S|r" and see what happens. I'm gonna try that right away and check if it works fine, but it should.

About the previous comment, I just made a hack that will let you use the escape codes to alter colors and whatever you want. So yes, there's a way to change color, will update asap.

You're a doll for being so quick to reply

Let me see if I can explain a bit more about the unused space hehe. In the bottom screenshot you provide to show an example of the time.... the last sentence in the screenshot shows the word "bonus". See how it fits snug all the way to the left side of the chatbox? In Prat, the letter "b" in the word bonus would start directly under the number 3 in the time shown above it... hence giving you wasted space. I hope I explained that properly lol.

As soon as the servers come back up from maintenance, I will let ya know how well your addon works with HitsMode. You're right though, I bet it works just fine.

The color I am wanting to use for the time is #E11419 (so it will match the Black and Red theme I have in my custom UI).

I understood you, but the no-gap in the screen it's due to Combat Log or maybe old version of WoW. I tried with chat and the indentation of the text is there... like a couple wide chars, but that cant be fixed methinks.

As I'm about to post, then the code you have to use is |cFFE11419--stuff-here--|r.

I'm afraid that's not technically possible, unless one would "recode" the whole chat window, which I believe is quite insane. And even if someone would do it, im not even too sure it would work.

Just did a quick search: "Lines that wrap in chat frames are now indented all subsequent lines after the first." (Source, Patch 2.4.2).

So, I'm afraid that's a big no.

How did you get it to work in your screenshots?

I figured that was it after I made my post. Thanks for clarifying!

Hay hay hay,

Using 1.4..tried to set the format to:
/cts format [%I:%M:%S]

It changes it..& works like it should until I log off..once I come back on it forgets & reverts back to default..

Any advice?

Also I'd like if possible to also remove the 0 infront of all the 12h..so just 4:20 instead of 04:20..could that happen as well? :-)

Thanks much

Sounds like I must have made some mistakes while converting the code. I'll have a look at it.

Not possible by standard, need to throw a hack for it. I'll be looking at it in the next minutes xD

Combat Frame

Since Blizz has their own timestamp for the combat frame can you make it optional to show your timestamp in that frame or remove it from that frame altogether?

Posted this in the feature request section as well
