WoTLK Icon for Desktop  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 3.1
by: Kudane [More]

To keep track of which game client I am launching, I though a expansion correct icon would help.

These are a simple .ico file for PC or ins file for MAC. feel free to use on your shortcut (as pictured) so you can quickly tell which one you are clicking.

Ver 1.5
Now has Mac and PC version of the Icon in zip file.

Ver 2.0
Mac version updated to include 128x128 pix Icon

Ver 2.1
Mac version file updated to *.icns instead of *.ico per feedback

Ver 3.0
Updated to now include Cataclysm Icon. I have added the PC and MAC version.

Ver 3.1
Correct Zip uploaded with all files included.

1.5 -- added mac icon to zip file
2.0 -- updated mac icon to include 128x128 pix icon
2.1 -- updated mac file name per feedback
3.0 -- updated to include Cataclysm icon
3.1 -- corrected zip to include all files.

Thumbs up Great Icons

Hey Kudane, just wanted to say thank you for uploading these!

I was making a desktop shortcut in Windows and was disappointed when I could not find the original icons in any of the available classic or retail executable files.

The Wrath icon is perfect and just what I was hoping for. The Cataclysm one looks great too, and although you uploaded this in 2010, it will certainly be the next iteration of WoW Classic, so it's kinda "fortuitous" that you included it as well.

Anyways, thanks again!

Setting the shortcut to read only in the properties works too. Do this after changing the icon and hitting "Apply" for that change.

MoP icons here: Windows Mac

Kudane feel free to use them in an update!

Up until a week or so ago it would 'merely' bother me with "this program wants to make changes, allow?", the change being the icon, but if I just kept denying it it'd remain the Cata icon you provide. But not anymore. Any idea what I can do to prevent the game from changing the icon on its own accord?

Thanks Miros,

I corrected it, not sure why the zip program didn't include all the files the first time.

Ty!

You dont even know how long ive been waiting for this exact icon to come out! Ever since WoTLK came out, I really thought they should of used this icon instead of the old one for 4 almost 5 years now.

Ty so much!

I re-created the Mac .icns file from the version included in the zip. If you open the version in the zip, it contains up to 256x256, but I guess its formatted incorrectly so OS X can only see the 48x48 version. I re-created the icon using Apple's Icon Composer and a TIFF of the 256x256 version. Unfortunately the 256x256 is not super great quality, and there is no 512x512. But the lower resolutions (128x128 and down) look just fine:

As far as getting the icon on your dock or something, use Finder to find your World of Warcraft folder. Click on the World of Warcraft Launcher and Get Info (command I). Click on the icon on the top left (NOT THE PREVIEW) and use the Edit menu to paste over it. You can copy the WotLK icon into memory to paste it by using Preview. Select the size you want, Edit -> Select All. This should draw a dotted line around it. Then Edit -> Copy. Now you're ready to paste!

Enjoy!

So far, I've only found one solution. The official WotLK icon from the installation DVD cannot be used via the conventional copy/paste method through the get info pane. Instead, the .icns file in the WoW application package must be replaced.

Navigate to your World of Warcraft directory (Command+LClick WoW from your dock)

Find World of Warcraft Launcher, RClick and select "Show Package contents"

Navigate through "Contents/Resources". You'll see LauncherGeneric.icns in the Resources directory. save this in a different location (Contents directory will work). Rename the .icns file you want to use as "LauncherGeneric.icns" and move it into the Resources folder. TADA.

To find the WotLK DVD .icns icon, just search the package contents of the WotLK DVD, you'll find it.

((This method does NOT work with the supplied icons from this download.. > ))

I am also on a Mac, and having troubles.

Mac OS X is reading both the .icns and .ico to be 48x48 resolution!

I've posted a screenshot to prove my point:

((Yes the image is small, but you can still read the "Dimensions" in the middle of the panes.

The information pane on the RIGHT, is the WotLK icon supplied by Blizzard in the WotLK DVD... this has a perfect resolution, however has a little CD subscript.

The information pane on the LEFT, is the WotLK icon supplied by You from this download....

Please try to get a 128x128 or above icon

Just to tell you, JPEG cannot be original. Because JPEG is a lossy compression.
