Sunn - Viewport Art  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 3.42
by: Sunn [More]

Sunn's Viewport Art allows you to change the size of the rendered world area (viewport) and adds textured artwork in the non-rendered areas.

Click here to lend your support!

The latest version always available at Curse

Usage
Use "/sunnart" (or "/sa") for the options gui.
Use "/sunnart help" for console commands

Panels
There are 4 panels in SunnArt, top, bottom, left and right. By default each will use the same theme although they can be set up with different themes, overlaps and dimensions using the advanced options.

Art Packs
Art packs are optional and should be installed as if they were separate addons (although they are useless without the SunnArt addon).

Extract the zipped folder into your interface/addons folder for it to function.

Previews of the artwork in the packs are available in the screenshots on this page.

Art Packs are available on this site

There are other art packs available that have been submitted by users. Search for "Sunn" on Curse or check for Optional Files on WoWInterface.

Custom Artwork
Artwork from any standard panels addon may be used with SunnArt. Just set them up using the in-game interface or by editting CustomTheme.lua.

File formats

  • Files must be .TGA or .BLP format
  • Be sure to set the alpha channel if your artwork contains any transparency
  • Panels can be constructed from 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 separate sections, numbered from left to right (eg. <art file>1.tga, <art file>2.tga ... <art file>5.tga)
  • Each section MUST have dimensions that are a power of 2 (ie, 128, 256, 512, 1024 etc) - this is a limitation of all artwork to be used in WoW.
  • Only files within the Interface\Addons\ structure are available to the addon

Using CustomTheme.lua
  • Save your artwork sections in Interface\Addons\SunnArt
  • Open CustomTheme.lua in any text editor
  • Follow the instructions in the file
  • Any number of themes can be set up in CustomTheme.lua

Using the in-game interface
All you need to know is the path to the artwork files, the amount of overlap and the number of sections the artwork is split into. Enter these into the Advanced options screen, Enter a name for your theme and click save. The theme will now be available to all your characters.

Submitting Artwork
I'm looking for a talented artist or two to help create a new Art Pack. Please submit your editted files or a complete screen-size file so that I may split it into compatible files and create a "How-To" tutorial for others.

If you have artwork that you would like to submit for Art Pack 10 and onward, please mail it to [email protected] and if I like it then I will include it in the next release.

Recommended Addons
These are some addons that will help organise your UI so that elements may be moved off the world screen and into the artwork areas of this addon. All of these addons use the same libraries as Sunn Viewport Art, which means alot of the code and resources are re-used rather than bloating your UI with lots of different code that does that same thing.

Action Bars - Dominos or Bartender4
Minimap - BasicMinimap and Minimap Button Frame or SexyMap
Chat Frame - Prat
Unit and Raid Frames - Pitbull and Grid

FAQ
Art Packs are not available?
Make sure the art packs are installed in your addons folder, NOT in the SunnArt folder
Translations
If any part of this addon is not available in your language then please contribute to translation at the CurseForge localization page
Problems or Errors
Please submit any error reports, problems or feature requests at the CurseForge Development Site.

Fixed taint issue when hiding UI in combat with viewport enabled.
Fixed a bug where settings would reset if the old ToggleUI key was bound.
Fixed recurring frame level increase. Frame level limited to 2.
Fixed slash commands and keybinding update for default profiles.

May I ask a question, just because I don't know. Why can't all packs be combined? Is it a question of memory usage?

If you don't like the art in a package, you don't have to download it, and you will only be using art from one package at a time, so you don't have to load the others into memory.

The reason I did it this way is because the addon was originally just a Viewport with simple artwork instead of the black emptiness offered by other viewport addons. It turned out that the artwork was more desireable than the core function of the addon so I got lots of requests for more art to be added.

Seeing as the core addon has hardly changed at all from it's first incarnation it made sense to release new artwork as seperate addons rather than make everyone download it over and over again each time I added a new graphic.

Now, 5 artpacks later, the whole install is almost 40Mb and I'm sure that most people won't want all that bloat, because, let's face it, alot of the artwork is crap. Most of it was made at the request of the users and I personally use only the "Emblem" theme.

I never saw this addon before and have fallen completely in love with it. I'm tweaking in all of my own currently used addons and was curious if trying to optimize loading times if it's possible to remove any of the themes not used so they don't load in memory, or does only the one you're using at the time load in memory?

Only the selected theme loads.

When you select a different theme, the addon effectively re-starts itself and loads only the selected theme.

Awsome, thank you! I'm no artist, I can barely draw a visible circle... are there any plans for advanced Themes? Your addon is simply put... perfect. It's adjustable, themable... and simply a base for UI customizers to add in everything they want. Would be really amazing for an artist with some spare time to provide themes like as follows:

1 for each Race
1 fore each Class

Or even the ability to have Racial backdrops and a possible class selectable graphic plug somewhere in those racial backdrops.

I doubt anyone would pick that up to do it, but that would simply make my day for my many a Horde characters and wishing they all had the same UI setup, but with a different Theme to give some variety while playing them all. :-D

Keep up the great work Sunn! This viewport is poifect!

Themes

I would love some of the more artistic people around here to contribute to this addon. I'm no artist, but I'd be happy to incorporate peoples ideas into an art-pack addon for this.

Excellent mod.

I have been wanting something like this for a while to bring my entire UI together.

Now for a nasty evil bug report that you may not have any control over.

In WotLK Beta, if you use this mod and have shadows turned on to the max and then set the setting to redo the veiwport to the new area, it moves all the shadows to be not connected to what they should be shadowing.

So I disabled this part, cause I want my shadow attached to my character

So don't know if you can fix that, but is working great in Beta.

It's very easy, just copy the format from an artpack and modify the lua. Or you could send the artwork to me and I'll do it for you.

I will get to work on it the moment I get into the expansion - probably at release. But expect the next version to be out within a day or two of it being generally available.

Thanks for letting me know.

I think I'm lasy, but I couldn't find the artwork you're using on the first screenshot. I download the 5 artpacks, no luck. Can you tell me the name and where I can find it?
