Version: 0.2

Time Until AFK

/timeuntilafk3
/tua

This addon will display a timer counting down (when sub 30 seconds) and sound an audible alert based off a timer you specify in seconds. The timer will reset if you character is moved or a spell is cast, to prevent spam.

If you're marked as AFK, you will have a large banner in the middle of your screen stating so; and the timer will count up, Displaying the total amount of time you have been marked.

Note:
I've just updated this Addon after a very long hiatus from writing code. It's quite likely that there are a few bugs I've missed along the way. Please report them!

12July2010: TOC Update, remove v3 from everything on the options. Changed slash command to /tua and /timeuntilafk. Fixed a bug with playing the sample sounds.

05Aug2009: TOC Update

20May2009: Updated TOC for 3.1, and made all the options Load on Demand.

09March2009: Fixed some scaling & positioning bugs. Also added a few new options.

25Nov2008: The addon should be a bit more intelligent to determine when the timer shows. It's not perfect however, I still need a bit more free time to work on it.

22Oct2008: Fixed some scale issues & cleaned up options code.

17Oct2008: Updated for WolTK & cleaned up/enhanced code. Also added options to WoW Interface Options panel.

I'm not sure as of yet. I'll likely update it in the future once I have some time, but no idea when that will be.

To be honest, TUA needs a lot of updating, I really need to clean up a lot of the code and fix lingering bugs. I've not come across what you are explaining though. Have you tried resetting the addon?

Question

Hey I just started using your addon again and im having a issue with it. For whatever reason the countdown timer isnt working. Its set to 300 . The only way I can see the timer is if I click moveable and from what i can tell it counts down about 5 sec and resets and starts again over and over. Almost like im moving my guy but im not.

Anyway any help to fix this would be awsome thx

It's impossible. The timer is a rough estimate, sometimes it takes 5 minutes exactly, sometimes 15. I chose to set the timer at a default of 5 minutes, since there is no way to determine the exact time before you go afk.

In future versions you will be able to adjust the timer to your specifications, I've just been busy lately.

Re: AWAY FROM KEYBOARD stays on screen when zoning

Originally posted by xteroid I have a problem with this mod when I was AFK while waited for BGs. If you accept an invitation of BG or warlock's summon to instance (by clicking YES in the dialog), the word 'AWAY FROM KEYBOARD' would stay on the screen forever. There is no way to remove it unless you logout. The words are so big that it distracts you from concerntrating on the battle or instance.
Any chance that this can be fixed? [/b]
That's fixed in this latest version. Also, a '/console reloadui' would have done the trick.

AWAY FROM KEYBOARD stays on screen when zoning

Well, I never use and never need this in BG. I judge AFKers by their position (in a n irrelevant place for a long while even if he moves a little bit, etc). And someone guarding a tower or bunker, or a bottleneck should not be considered as AFK even if they stay still there for a long time.
I have been using this mod before I start BG, and it is very useful if I need a long break (like a meal) but I don't want to lose my manna biscuilt(from someone else) by disconnection for 5 minutes.

Do not blame me for anyone AFK in a battleground. If you find people deliberatly avoiding the AFK flag, report them!
Discussion over.

Anyway, the bug has been fixed (whoops!) and shouldn't happen with this new version. Sorry about that!

Exactly what are you crusading for when singling out this addon/author again?
Said addons don't have the ability to notify the user via sounds.

As reasonable as this argument is it still doesn't drown the problem this addon DOES cause. If all that stuff is useful.. remove the bit of code that makes it function inside battleground.

Bam, issue solved. You can't name one example where this addon is useful INSIDE a battleground. Do you honestly expect me to believe you're going to sit AFK in a battleground while you wait for a GM to answer your page?

"Hi that's a wonderful issue and I would be happy to assist you with it, however, you're AFK and not participating in the battleground so I'm going to have to remove you from it. Have a nice day."

Now your issue is unresolved and you're flagged a coward.

In case any of you getting your knickers in a twist over this didn't know, Blizzard will be adding a "Report AFK Player" function in the next patch.

Does this addon make it EASIER for people who want to AFK do so? Yes.

But it DOES have other LEGEITIMATE use as well. There are other-times when you want to not get flagged AFK while still not paying attention, such as waiting for a GM to answer a ticket, (The will generally just close your ticket and then send an e-mail if your toon is AFK) or while waiting to JOIN a battleground.

People who want to AFK in battlegrounds will still do so, whether this mod exists or not. People who are "hard-core" AFK'ers won't be useing a mod like this anyways, they generally have a simple script that presses their spacebar every few minutes.

This mod does nothing that is technically agasint the TOS, this mod uses very root functions of the API that *will not* break (any time soon), and come next patch you zealots will have a nice offical quick way of reporting AFK'ers anyways. Now stop complaining.
