moveFrames  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 1.0.61
by: chuckg [More]

Features:
- Quickly move Blizzard frames wherever you want.
- Frames will recall their location when re-opened.
- Unmodified Blizzard frames will function as normal.

Description:
moveFrames does exactly what it's name implies, it allows you to move the basic Blizzard frames anywhere you would like. No more frames locked to the left and center of the screen. Think of it as a lightweight version of MobileFrames, MoveIt, or DiscordFrameModifier only without all the extra stuff. It doesn't do anymore than it's name implies. moveFrames is very unobtrusive, there are no visible frames or buttons cluttering up the UI or special slash commands used to move a frame.

To move a frame, simply drag by the 'title bar' to the location you want the frame placed. The next time you re-open the frame, it will open in it's newly placed position and no longer adhere to the "frame push" behavior when opened or closed like the default. Frames that have not been moved using moveFrames retain the default blizzard behavior, opening on the left and pushing currently open ones to the middle.

moveFrames works with just about every frame, including the LoadOnDemand frames like the TradeSkillFrame or TalentUI. Currently, every frame is enabled by default but you may turn off / lock individual frames; check the 'Usage' section on the wiki for more details.

Usage:
The slash commands offer a number of options and may be accessed in one of two ways: /moveframes or /mf
/mf reset - This will reset all of the moveFrames positional data. The next time frames are opened, they will use the default Blizzard positioning.
/mf lock - This toggle a global lock on all moveFrames, frames will not be moveable with this toggled.

There are also a number of ways to handle individual frame settings by click on the TitleBar area or, in the case of frames like QuestWatch and WorldStateCaptureBar, on the frame itself.
Left-Click+Drag - Move a frame wherever you want. Pretty straight forward.
Right-Click - This will lock the selected frame into position. To un-lock the frame, just right-click it again.
Shift+Right-Click - This will reset the moveFrame data. Do this if there is one frame that needs to be reset without losing every frames positional data.

Also.. I'd like to suggest a sticky toggle.

Example..

Sticky On; Frames function like they do with default mf settings, and STICK to wherever you drag them.

Sticky Off; Frames are movable, but when any frame is closed and then re-opened it's position is reset to the last place it was STUCK to, or default.

Also, I believe your addon doesn't handle scaling very well..

Frames 'JUMP' to a higher position on the screen when released.
I've seen similar behavior in addons that only support default ui scale.

deadspots

I love this addon, but i am getting what I call a 'deadspot' in the upper middle part of the screen, where my mouse wont 'click' , its super frustrating, especially in instances.. I heard this isnt being supported any longer, is there an alternative out there?

Hmm the current version of this does not work properly with Patch 2.3.

It has some secure problems...

Taken from a Taint.log
Code:
11/17 15:25:18.531 An action was blocked in combat because of taint from moveFrames - MultiBarRight:SetPoint()
11/17 15:25:18.531 Interface\FrameXML\UIParent.lua:2287
11/17 15:25:18.531      securecall()
11/17 15:25:18.531 Interface\FrameXML\UIParent.lua:2342
11/17 15:25:18.531      UIParent_ManageFramePositions()

Is this mod still being updated?

Is this mod still being updated? I really loved this mod and so miss it. With 2.2 it isn't working and generates massive errors now. Is there anything else like it if it's been abandoned?

Thanks

Thanks for the Mod.

Only two things I wish is for WowAceUpdater support, and the pesky "MovePanelToCenter" bug I get. Doesn't really bother me now that I'm rollin with BugSack, but the bug is still there.

Maybe I'll try the hack posted for it and see what happens... hopefully things don't go BOOM! The gnomes in my computer are irritable lately

Ignore clowns like previous poster who complains that free stuff doesn't come fast enough for his liking. The vocal minority don't change the happy majority who DO appreciate addons like this.

Hey I 'm glad to see someone else took this mod and kept running with it. BTW, this mod when I wrote it was directly ported from MobileFrames. I was too was frustrated with how that mod was left so I just took it and ported over but then life got busy for me (getting married, going to school full-time, new clients --> more hours of work, etc) I just didn't have time to keep up with it.

I was also wondering if you could get this mod registered with the Ace SVN so that the mod can be updated via the Ace Updater.

Other than that, I wanted to say great job on the mod and thanks for keeping it running.

P.S. I'm getting the same error as Hack below as well. I'll go ahead and comment out those lines till the next updated version is release.

A hacky workaround is to comment out lines 79 like this:
Code:
-- self:Hook("MovePanelToCenter", "MovePanelToCenter", true)
-- self:Hook("MovePanelToLeft", "MovePanelToLeft", true) and 80

Great addon apart from one slight problem. I am getting the following UI error each time I log into the game:

Code:
[2007/08/25 12:08:06-275-x1]: moveFrames-1.0\core.lua:79: AceHook-2.1: Attempt to hook a non-existant function "MovePanelToCenter"
AceAddon-2.0-46764 (Ace2):927: in function <Interface\AddOns\Ace2\AceAddon-2.0\AceAddon-2.0.lua:920>
<in C code>: ?
AceEvent-2.0-44693 (Ace2):262: in function `TriggerEvent'
AceEvent-2.0-44693 (Ace2):955: in function <Interface\AddOns\Ace2\AceEvent-2.0\AceEvent-2.0.lua:948>
Any idea what could be causing it or how to fix it?

Cheers

Thanks for the information Zidomo, my apologies I haven't taken the time to release a newer working version of this, but I suppose my following comments can take the place of an explanation.

Nevermind the time put in into developing addons for people who are ungrateful, whiney, and downright nasty when the updates don't come the second, month, or even year there's some "asinine" bug pops up that's really client side. Also, there is no configuration time in moveFrames and there never was, so what time have you wasted beyond clicking and dragging one window from one spot to the next? Please. Everyone congratulate this little comment on completely burning me out on public releases.

This mod is unfortunately truly dead in WoW 2.1.3.

Using fully updated standalone Ace2 libraries direct from the Wowace SVN (r44196, last updated July 19), not the old versions included in the moveFrames. Error at logon with moveFrames 1.0.61:

moveFrames-1.0\\core.lua:79: AceHook-2.1: Attempt to hook a non-existant function \"MovePanelToCenter\"\nAceAddon-2.0-44196 (Ace2):927: in function <Interface\\AddOns\\Ace2\\AceAddon-2.0\\AceAddon-2.0.lua:920>\n<in C code>: ?\nAceEvent-2.0-40601 (Ace2):232: in function `TriggerEvent'\nAceEvent-2.0-40601 (Ace2):910: in function <Interface\\AddOns\\Ace2\\AceEvent-2.0\\AceEvent-2.0.lua:903>\n\n.
