EveryQuest  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: r198-release
by: kandarz [More]

EveryQuest is a Quest History tracker and quest list window. Integrates with Lightheaded to show any comments for any quest in the game. Create chat links by shift-clicking the quest name.

What's New

  • Go to Current Zone Button (r184) - Click the Book!
  • Custom coloring (r184)
  • Show if you've done that daily today using colors (above)
  • Race Filter (r177)
  • Class Filter (r177)
  • Cataclysm Data (r174)

In the Works
  • Updated EveryQuest:Quest Giver data
  • Quest Series information
  • Reputation lists and filters

What does it do?
Quest History
As you complete quests in game, EveryQuest will keep track of which ones you have done. It also tracks which quests you've failed or abandoned so that you can easily get them again. Once you complete a quest, the date and time is saved to see when you did it. Additionally if the quest is a daily quest, it keeps a running total of how many times you've done the quest along with the most recent completion date.

Quest List
The quest list uses your quest history to display quests from any category in game. It lists quests you haven't done in zones (ex: Borean Tundra) so you can get the achievement easier.

Integration
EveryQuest integrates with LightHeaded (Wowhead quest comments, NPC locations) so clicking a quest will open the wowhead comments for that quest. Lightheaded then integrates with TomTom waypoints to direct you to the quest giver.

Bug Reports
Please direct all support requests to Wowace. Provide a complete stack trace from an addon like Bug Grabber

Refrain from posting bug reports to the comments section.

How to report Missing Quests
If you get a message in the chat frame that a quest wasn't able to be retrieved from the database, please do the following:
Go to http://wow.kandarz.com/everyquest/upload.html and upload your global saved variable.

Localization
Wowace localization is now setup for all you world travelers! Visit the localization page to translate.

WoW Patch 3.3 Updates / Server Query
NEW IN 3.3!

You're now able to get your quest history from the server! If you are using EveryQuest 2.3+ you're set.
To do this:
  1. Open Interface Options
  2. Go to EveryQuest -> Server Query and follow the instructions

EveryQuest: Quest Givers
NEW MODULE!

I finished up a quest giver module that mimics the functionality of Handynotes: Quest Givers but integrates EveryQuest quest history and filtering by faction (daily quest coloring/filtering maybe later).

Usage
The zip file contains everything you will need to use EveryQuest. Although I recommend some additional addons to create a more complete package.
To display the main quest list you have multiple options:
  1. If you are using the default questlog window, there will be a small button near the book icon with the letters "EQ" to toggle the window.
  2. If you are using a LibDataBroker display addon, such as Fortress, EveryQuest has its own launcher. Click the launcher to open the window. Right-click to open the options
  3. Bind the window the a key using the key bindings interface from the main menu.
  4. Type /everyquest

Not without packaging all the quest titles with the addon. The tooltip is done automatically by blizzard's API. Each time you hover over a quest, your game client gets the quest tooltip from the server in your language. It is possible to query the server for the quest titles but it runs the risk of hitting a quest that the server doesn't have anymore resulting in an automatic disconnection.

Hi there,

i have never used this item before but after reading that it used the new method to query finished quests from the server i was very excited.

I have an feature request:

I am on a german client. The quests that are listed in the EQ window are in english. When hovering them with the mouse the quest description is in german though.
Is there any way to display the quest titles in the language of the game client?

Keep up the great work!

Regards

Hello, only to report that the addon is "out of date", but if you load it, it works...

For those looking for LibQuixote fix

In spite of how rudely kandarz treated me and spoke to me the last time I posted here on Nov. 3rd including immature name calling (see nine posts down and the three replies after that), I am willing to share the LibQuixote fix if anyone cares to have it. Although kandarz will probably take a copy of it I am not providing this file for kandarz but for all of you instead.

You can try to download it from my server at

http://makaz.kicks-ass.net/publicdow...uixote-2.0.zip

This is a personal server and I do not always keep my system turned on when I go to sleep at night. My system is usually on 18-20 hours a day so that should be sufficient time to grab it.

I have been using this ever since Nov 5 and I never had a problem with that error since. It works perfectly fine for me.

Enjoy error free questing and porting/hearthing =)

Happy Holidays

EDIT:

PS: For those having this LibQuixote error message problem and wondering if it is an addon conflict, for me it is not. I run QuestGuru and TomTom and LightHeaded and EveryQuest together just fine with no problems. Just use this LibQuixote fix.

And no, I am not the one who figured out how to fix this; I just made the changes I saw elsewhere and am providing the file in its entirety so you don't have to hassle with it.

hmmm... OK. The only other quest mods I use are QuestGuru and TomQuest2, but I'll try to remember to take a look at them when I get home from work later. Thanks.

Ookami:

I just did a diff on the latest LibQuixote-2.0.lua versus the one in my development version (a year old by now, only ~30 lines have changed in that time) and didn't find anything that looked like it would cause LibQuixote to fail. Perhaps it is another one of your quest addons as I have never had this error yet it's been reported multiple times.

I only use EveryQuest and Inquest.

Any idea if there is a fix in the works for it? Normally I wouldn't care, but since it basically disables the auto tracking abilities of the mod after the error occurs until a "/reload" command is given, a fix would be appreciated.

Thanks

Re: QuestGuru

Have both addons loaded and open the EveryQuest options, Import sub options, and do QuestGuru import. Hopefully it still works.

I've gotta admit, dude, that I'm right with Azmak on this one... You're way out of line in how you responded to him--rude, condescending, not at all in proportion to the tone of his remarks.

Sure, it bites when you put your efforts into something that continues to be buggy-- It's frustrating as hell but it doesn't give you the right to blast someone who's taken the time to politely describe the issues he's experiencing. Many AddOn authors ask for feedback here in the forums, (and even if you ask for debugging info to be posted somewhere else), it shouldn't surprise you to find comments here.

This was a very useful AddOn. Like Azmak, I've enjoyed it for the past year. I applaud your idea and appreciate your efforts in trying to keep it functional. When I started experiencing issues with it, I just removed it, preserving my wtf files in case it all comes back together again. At least he took time out to compose a post to you...

I think what chafes so much about your response to him is that no one (authors or forum members) has to post here. When an author shares a project that he has created, he does so willingly and without strings. If there is a problem and the author decides that he cannot support it further, often someone else will take it over--folks are bummed when a beloved AddOn stumbles, but for the most part, everyone tries to be civil to one another in working out solutions. Some solutions just take longer than others.

I like that EveryQuest is here on WoWi. But if it stresses you so much to be spread across all different platforms, then stop updating it here, and change your description to include a link to WowAce (or wherever else you prefer to have it posted) so folks can find your most current file. It's hard enough to work through bugs and maintain stable code in this ever changing computing environment. Why make it harder?

So though posting here as a courtesy-mirror is indeed a nice thing to do, calling folks morons isn't--frankly, I'd rather have WoWinterface maintain it's pleasant atmosphere than put up with authors who flame out because they're frustrated.

There's been some bugs lately, but what pisses me off is that you think you're entitled to bug free software for free. Instead you don't post bug reports and then you come to wowinterface (a mirrior I provide as a courtesy) to post this rant. And maybe if you had looked in all the comments (from wowinterace, wowace, curse and all the closed tickets) you would have noticed that I know there have been bugs and I've done my best to eliminate them.

The wowinterface mirror is strictly because I'm nice, it's a pain in the ass to have to tag it on wowace, wait for the packager to make a release, download it and then upload it to wowinterface. I don't update the changelog on wowinterface at all.

Maybe if you learned to post good bug reports, utilize the debugging shit I put in there for my own use and told me all the information I needed to know I'd be able to help you. Instead you rant. Good day sir.

tl;dr: Post bug reports moron.
Dude where the hell is all this anger of yours coming from? Settle down man. For one thing my post was not a rant , secondly I complemented you on this addon saying it was one of my must haves and that for almost a year I never had a problem with it.

And the fact that this site is a so called mirror for you, well I guess I missed that memo from you because I DIDN'T KNOW!

And another thing, I never said I was entitled to free anything again where did you see that and where is this anger coming from?

Don't boo hoo to us for the rig-a-ma-roll you have to go through to send out your addon to the masses. You are free to use only one site if you wish or not at all! I didn't tell you to host at numerous sites now did I? That was your doing, not mine. So keep your attitude and frustrations to yourself where it belongs.

Peace out!

Re: Not Tracking Properly

There's been some bugs lately, but what pisses me off is that you think you're entitled to bug free software for free. Instead you don't post bug reports and then you come to wowinterface (a mirrior I provide as a courtesy) to post this rant. And maybe if you had looked in all the comments (from wowinterace, wowace, curse and all the closed tickets) you would have noticed that I know there have been bugs and I've done my best to eliminate them.

Hi.

I have used this addon for about a year now and it has been a great addition to my collection of addons I "must have". Lately I have been having issues with it and I am disappointed to not see anyone else posting about this problem. I hate being the only one with a problem.

Normally people get that error message saying unable to locate quest in database - mostly it only happened to me when I was doing repeatable quests and similar stuff but now it is happening on most every quest I pick up or turn in.

The EveryQuest addon used to automatically track which quests I picked up, completed, turned in but now I would say that maybe...2 out of 10 quests are tracked. The quest list no longer indicates in color whether I picked up a quest or completed it or turned it in, I have to manually do it for nearly every quest I do.

I get that database error message for many of the normal quests. Sometimes I don't get the error message but if I look in the EveryQuest window the quest name still isn't updated. Basically it's as if it doesn't even work anymore. Right now if I am lucky, once in a great while it will track a quest properly but mostly I am doing everything by hand .

I have used this with QuestGuru ever since I installed this almost a year ago and I never had any problems before except for repeatable quests. I am using the latest version of QuestGuru and EveryQuest and am playing Alliance. This problem has started for me after the 3.2 patch, rather I should say - I never had a problem prior to 3.2. The only thing I have done differently since 3.2 is start my very first Alliance character and updated QuestGuru and EveryQuest whenever updates were released. So I don't know if this is a 3.2 issue, an Alliance issue or issues with latest addon updates. But when I played Horde prior to 3.2 I never had problems.

I keep checking the changlelog for EveryQuest, here and on WoWAce and what I think are going to be fixes for this, haven't been; I still have this problem even with your latest beta update.

This is sad for me because I really appreciate all this addon did but now, all it is is a glorified list of quests and nothing more because it no longer auto updates the quest listing to indicate whether it is in progress, completed or turned in.

EDIT: ok for whatever reason i got this message when i was using the latest verstion (2.3.4 from curse), when using 2.3.3 from wowinterface, it populated the database and could not find 85 quests only.
Yeah I forgot to change a line of code, 2.3.5 fixes that I think.

Also could you remove my email address from your post.
