Nefpad (UNSUPPORTED)

Version: 1.0.0215
by: Nefarion [More]

I'm no longer supporting this addon. It will break in the expansion. If you're looking for a replacement, I personally recommend Hack by Mud. (Hack includes a script to import saved pages from this addon.)

A simple notepad addon.

Features

  • Save unlimited notes, and access them back through the simplistic GUI.
  • Keybinding and slash-command ("/nefpad", "/np") to show the GUI.
  • Resizeable note text (Shift-scroll over the text).
  • Thorough confirmation dialogs to avoid losing those important notes.
  • Supports pseudo-tabs, inserted through the Tab key.
  • Supports (non-clickable) item links, inserted by Shift-clicking on an item.

Commands
Command line: /nefpad, /np

To do
  • See if it's possible to hack in a clickable item links within the edit box.
  • Allow saving of local (per-character) notes, on a per-note basis. (What's the best way to implement this into the GUI?)

License
This addon is released under the MIT license found here.

1.0.0215:
+ TOC bump.

1.0.0214
+ Initial WoWInterface upload.

g-code rev 213
+ Changed the locale system a little. Easier to maintain now, and allows for future expansion.

g-code rev 188
+ Changed around the localization handling a bit. It should now properly default to the enUS strings on unsupported locales.

g-code rev 183
+ Added some localization code, and the base enUS locale. Feel free to send me localization files.

g-code rev 177
+ Fixed the item-link error. (Thanks to axhed for pointing it out.)

g-code rev 176
+ Fixed the bindings?

g-code rev 172
+ Added the ability to insert (non-clickable) colored item links by shift-clicking on the item.
+ Added the ability to add a tab when the tab key is pressed. (Note: WoW wouldn't properly display a tab so it uses 4 spaces instead.)

g-code rev 170
+ Cleaned up the code a lot. (I was really tired. lol )
+ Added a License.txt file.

g-code rev 161
+ Added a preview image.

g-code rev 158
+ Initial commit.

Ive been using this mod for a while now. so far its been ok.

just a few things....

1. Ive right clicked all over the mod window and no optin comes up for saving to any char. I would like to save it to the generic file so all my toons can use it. If i edit it all toons should see the new edit i made.

2. the way it saves the notes seem to be wacked out. its not saving them in order of any type. it seems to be random.

like i can create 3 notes and the last note i created will be the 3rd on the list. no matter what i name it. Ive used numbers letters and the combo of both and it dont seem to matter.

right-click pops up a box that has a dropdown of characters available to save to, you pick the character and it saves it to that one? Or right click just saves to current character?

Edit edit: Also please make the Enter key work for the Save/Save As popup window so the user isn't required to click OK

Other than that I think it's very well done, thanks for all the work!

Edit edit edit: Another idea, how about Right clicking on the Delete button will drop down a list (just like left clicking "Open" does), and allows you to select which one to delete, so that we don't have to open a note before removing it

4xEdit: Regarding "Allow saving of local (per-character) notes, on a per-note basis. (What's the best way to implement this into the GUI?)"

How about having a selector where the user can choose either the Shared (or public or whatever name you will) and Private categories for notes, when Shared is toggled, all the notes created can be viewed/edited by other characters on his account, and the private ones are character specific

If doing that though, have an option tucked away somewhere for moving a note from Shared to Private (and vice versa)
Good suggestions. Thanks.

I'm not happy with the addon as-is right now. I want to rework the entire thing from the ground up when I get the chance. I'll keep these ideas in mind while writing version 2.

No problem. Glad to see you like it!

Any suggestions for it?

Stick to updating it. I mentioned an issue with how the code was preprocessed (to hack in a max execution time) and the author will be removing that soon.

Also, in case you're wondering, Nefpad stole its art from WowLua. With permission, of course.

I want to rewrite the mod first though. I'm not exactly in love with its code right now, and I'd like to be able to handle things more generically, for easier maintenance and expansion.
