WoWVid

Version: 1.6-50400
by: Dridzt, nikki, theopenbox

Update for a long abandoned and currently unavailable addon. (original author: Norpse)
WoWVid lets the user create a viewport (in reality a specifically colored texture)
that allows them to watch videos in overlay mode while in the game.

*new* Ability to save the current settings as a preset,
for easier switching between media players.
Also comes with default presets for VideoLAN and KMPlayer now.

Prompted by the discussion here.

Working status
AddOn: YES
Overlay: Yes (according to user reports for VideoLAN player, KMPlayer and GOM Player)

The in-game addon is fixed and working with WoW 4.0.1.

VLC and KMPlayer instructions courtesy of Garual
You will probably also need from WoW to go into
Game Menu -> Video -> Graphics -> Display Settings and set to "Windowed (Fullscreen)."

Keybinds to show/hide the addon frame as well as the options can be found in Keybinds under "WowVid".

help please!

This cool addon is still working fine just needs toc update ... tested in Windows 7 64 bit prof. with VLC Player.
Thank you for the awesome work

EDIT 4: The Presets won't save the window size for some reason. Can you fix this?

EDIT: solved its /wv config (please add into addon discription)
However can you help me: I disabled the minimap button but can't find a way to bring back the options its not inside wow addon options and I haven't seen a slash command?

EDIT 2: Coud You also make an option to enable disable the window with a keybinding? That woud be so coo for raidbrake when I need to disable/enable it quickly!
And woud it be possible to have the same function with an internet browser?

EDIT 3: I Have noticed that the map arrow is above that texture, woud it be possible to also put other things above the windows? Like character windows and the whole map if I open them? Or windows coud be open next to the video box instead of behind it

Just a note, that due to the way Vista/Seven elevate privileges for full-screen applications,
there's good chances you will not manage to get the video play "through"
even if you have setup WoWVid r,g,b properly for your media player when WoW is in true full-screen.

There's 2 ways around that:
1. Right click your media player shortcut and select "run as administrator".
2. Go into WoW Video options and select "Windowed(Fullscreen)"

The main advantage to this setup is that it is minimal (you don't get the player's UI showing above your WoW content). You can also interact with the game world through the video. If an enemy runs behind your video you can click through to target them.

This addon will work with any media player that supports "overlay mode". What this addon does is it takes advantage of how video is rendered by most media players.

Heres a little tip on how to get the correct color.

Make sure whatever player you want to use (KMPlayer, VLC, GOM, whatever) is running in an overlay mode. Then while playing media in it use printscreen.

Paste your printscreen in a program like paint. You should not see a still of your media but just a blank box. Use the color finder to match your blank box to an RGB value. Thats the color you want the WoWVid addon to be running in.

Now you should place the media player to be where you want it run when you have the game running. Open your WoW client and set the RGB value you found above in the addon. Now you can drag around the box to where you place the media player in the background.

You should now see your media =)

Never happened as far I remember, but this could be different from player to player, don't know.

Yes! Now I can watch South Park while I grind Kurenai/whatever reps ;D

Thank you thank you!

PS: I remember once though that someone found out a way to play a video right in WoW (this one appears to be making a 'peephole' to the window behind). Is that still possible, to play a video natively in WoW itself?

Edit to P3lim: Wouldn't the window just go back behind if you try to interact in the WoW window? Because that's what happens to mine.
