2016/07/29 — I do not plan to update ShieldsUp for Legion, as shaman shields no longer exist in a meaningful form in the game.
ShieldsUp monitors your Earth Shield, Water Shield, and Lightning Shield.
  • Easy-to-read plain text display
  • Shows your active shields, their remaining charges*, and the name of your Earth Shield target
  • Optional text and sound alerts when one of your shields expires or is removed
  • Condensed display while solo (or for shamans without Earth Shield)
  • Support for all colorblindness modes
  • Support for custom fonts and sounds via LibSharedMedia-3.0 media packs
* Note that Water Shield and Lightning Shield will display a "W" or "L", respectively, except for elemental shamans, who will see a number for Lightning Shield when they have at least one extra charge.

Type “/sup” for options, or browse to the ShieldsUp panel in the standard Interface Options window.
Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why isn’t ShieldsUp monitoring my Earth Shield?
A: ShieldsUp only monitors Earth Shield when it’s cast on yourself, or on a player or pet in your party or raid group. There is no way for addons to reliably monitor buffs cast on units who are not in your group, so ShieldsUp doesn’t try.
Q: Why am I only seeing one charge counter?
A: ShieldsUp switches to a single-counter display when you are solo, or if you don’t have the Earth Shield talent, since in either situation it’s only possible for you to have one shield active on a target ShieldsUp can monitor.

Accessing Sounds

Hi, love the addon. I am just trying to find out more about the sounds that are accessible in the dropdown list. I know that they are part of the SharedMedia library and are not within the ShieldsUp folder however I cannot for the life of me find whereabouts these sounds are anywhere in my addons folder. Are they accessed from some embedded file and not a .mp3 or .wav file?

The sounds that are registered by ShieldsUp (Alliance Bell, Horde Bell, Tribal Bell, etc) are sounds that are part of the Blizzard game files, so you won't find files for them in your AddOns folder.

errors

having lots of problems with today's version. sv resets and many of the options are broken, some of them spitting out errors (like the font size option). sorry, i don't have the exact error on hand right now.

also seeing the error unlit posted, which appears to be a typo.

Hmm, that's odd. I committed a fix for the typo, but apparently the zip contains the previous revision... I'll push a new zip here shortly.

The settings reset was intentional; ShieldsUp is still a beta addon, and things will change. I'm not going to spend time adding code to upgrade settings that are probably going to change again, and take 15 seconds to reconfigure.

error

seeing:

ShieldsUp-0\\Core.lua:106: attempt to index global 'self' (a nil value)\nShieldsUp-0\\Core.lua:353: in function <Interface\\AddOns\\ShieldsUp\\Core.lua:351>\n(tail call)

not exactly sure what triggers it, but seems to happen when someone joins the party.

Fixed.

Also added full support for localization, and Russian (ruRU) translations. Translations for other locales are welcome.

water shield

the fix that you did to prevent showing 0 on recasts seems to work very well for earth shield. however, i now get the incorrect 0 display occasionally with my water shield.

Yes, hence the note in the changelog. There's not much I can do when Blizzard changes the actual auras in one order, and fires combat messages in the opposite order. When I see the combat log message that the aura was lost, I scan the auras... occasionally the delay is too big, and the aura isn't there yet. The only way to avoid this would be to scan auras every time auras changed, which I don't really want to do.

improved earth shield

the earth shield doesn't take into account when you get the improved earth shield talent. Currently I have 2 points in the talent, so the total would be 8 however it only shows as 6.

also I noticed when I cast earth shield on another person not in my group it doesn't show a change in the count (just 0) which may not be a bug since I suspect they need to be in my raid/party to track it properly

Yes, as noted by the lack of yellow "Works with WoTLK" tag over by the Download button, ShieldsUp is not yet fully updated for WotLK. Most functions should work, however, and I'll get everything else fixed up soon.

Re: improved earth shield

I'm currently sketching out a complete rewrite of the core, as the current internal methods for tracking don't work very well with the new talents and glyphs that change the number of charges on shields. I'll upload a version soon that generally works for your own shields, but accurate detection of extra charges on shields cast by others will have to wait for the rewrite. On the plus side, the rewrite will also address issues like the Earth Shield fade when someone zones into or out of an instance weren't detected.

This is intentional; if someone isn't in your group, there's not really any reason (that I can think of, anyway) you'd need to keep track of a shield on them.
