Livestock  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 3.4.1
by: Kharthus [More]

Livestock: For all your companion needs

Now that your pets and mounts don't take up space in your bags, Livestock lets you manage them intelligently. This addon sorts your companions into land mounts, flying mounts, and vanity pets. Then, with the push of a button, you can randomly summon any of the three, or designate a favorite pet to have out on command.

You can also have Livestock always keep a pet by your side, and have it dismiss your vanity pet when you are in PVP battle and it would give away your position.

You can even tell Livestock to put you on a random land or flying mount depending on whether the area you're in lets you fly or not. Underwater or in combat, Livestock can also be configured to cast certain spells relating to travel, such as Path of Frost or Ghost Wolf.

New to version 1.2 and above, you can designate certain pets or mounts to be called in certain zones or subzones. Ride in style on a Frostwolf Howler while in Alterac Valley, and then switch to your favorite color of Mechanostrider while in Ironforge. Livestock will let you make sure that you have your good luck pet out whenever you're in Ulduar or Trial of the Crusader.
You can summon critters, land mounts, and flying mounts in various ways. See the ReadMe file for more information.
Localization Help:
Livestock currently only works for the enUS, deDE, eES, ruRU, and frFR clients. (The client is only localized completely for the enUS client, and assistance in localizing is always appreciated!) If you are on another client, Livestock will load but will show all English strings. If you are willing to help localize the addon for your language, please let me know - you'd only need to provide some simple translations and I'd do the rest. You can reach me through the Private Message system available here.
Slash Commands:
There are currently eight slash commands for the addon. View the ReadMe file for a more in-depth explanation. /livestock and /ls both work for commands.
  • Use "/livestock" to bring up the main menu bar.
  • Use "/livestock reset" to move the four Livestock Buttons back to their default positions.
  • Use "/livestock scale <scale>" to change the size of the Livestock Buttons.
  • Use "/livestock prefs" as a shortcut to access the preferences, described in the ReadMe.
  • Use "/livestock redo" to force Livestock to reset to default. Useful for squashing buggy behavior at the cost of having to reset your settings.
  • Use "/livestock [zone/subzone/party]" to designate a pet or mount for your current zone, subzone or party. For more information, check the ReadMe.
  • Use "/livestock [mount/nomount/pet/nopet]" to add/remove pets and mounts from the random summon list. Uses your active summon.
  • Use "/livestock debug" - Prints out useful debugging information that can assist the developers in solving problems. Use the command again to turn off the debugging output.

Livestock Options and Preferences:
You can find the options for Livestock in the Addons tab of the Blizzard Interface options menu. The "Livestock" tab has the major options, while options for pets, Smart Mounting, and zone/subzone preferences are in sub-menus. You can read more about the preferences in the ReadMe file.
Bug Reports and Feature Requests
If you find unexpected behavior in Livestock, especially in locales other than enUS, please check the FAQ first to see if it has been addressed and if there is a possible fix.
Please report any bugs you find with Livestock -- or feature requests you'd like to see -- using the "Report Bugs" or "Feature Request" button underneath the Download button, up and to the right. I appreciate your feedback and support.
If you are reporting a bug, the following information is helpful: Any error messages that you saw, where you were (if you can give coordinates, that's excellent), what you were trying to do, what your menus looked like, and what class you play.
Thanks!
Well-deserved credit goes to the following people:
  • Khanthal (Uldum), for the original idea and being our MT so often!
  • A BIG thank you to Sbo (UI and Macros forum, Live) who helped me figure out what was the issue with Dalaran and Wintergrasp as well as suggesting the way to get around it.
  • Grimgear (UI and Macros forum, Live) for helping troubleshoot a bug, pointing me to keybindings, and suggesting rotation speed. Also for pointing out how best to adjust my GUI to compensate for localization.
  • Lunessa (UI and Macros forum, Live) for pointing me to Blizzard's instructions on creating panels in the Interface menu.
  • Xelron (UI and Macros forum, Live) for helping construct debug messages to get more information and indirectly convincing me to make my own dropdowns.
  • Ro (UI and Macros forum, Beta) for the 3D model viewer idea. Ro also originally suggested making my own custom dropdowns, which I thought was beyond me!
  • Elloria and Tgulics (WoWInterface) for helping spread the word and test the addon in its early stages and for suggesting highlighting the buttons when they're clicked.
  • The MVPs (UI and Macros forum) for providing the resources needed to accomplish this one as well as stepping in and answering my questions from time to time. Special thanks to Alestane and Iriel for helping me with secure handlers.
  • kdkunde (WoWInterface) for helping translate this mod into German so far!
  • Vastilia (WoWInterface) and Yorgl (Curse) for helping translate into French!
  • madbit (WoWInterface) for the Spanish translation.
  • simply (Curse) for the Russian localization.
  • Certainly not least, Brenkite (Uldum) for being my personal troubleshooter and moral support.

It's a pity it doesn't work on german client. At least the flying/epic mount logic does not. After a short look at the source code I found the logic to decide what kind of mount it is, is hardcoded in english by searching certain keywords in the mounts tooltip. So please could you add those keywords to the localisation.lua. I will then be able to provide a german translation in a localisation-deDE.lua.
kdkunde, I sent you a PM last night with more details - if you haven't checked it yet, I let you how I'm planning to address this with your help!

Sure Gaddor - in the next version, which I'll update probably by tomorrow night, I'll make them only draggable with the right mouse button.

Ooooh, I forgot that the critter button has right-click functionality. I guess I should make sure that you can still right-click

I will make the buttons require a modifier key, but also keep a lookout for a new option to automatically dismiss your vanity pet when you stealth!

Scharr, thanks for this comment. My hunch is that when you log out and log in again, you'll see the menu working right. You can also do a /console reloadui.

I've had this happen to me before, and I can't figure out why yet. Many people have said they see it happen too, so it's definitely on my list of things to fix. However, once you do get the menus to show up properly, I've found they stay fixed.
I've tried these and am not getting any luck. Patiently waiting for a fix

Nifty addon, I'm already enjoying it.

Couple of things regarding the Smart Mount feature:
  1. In Azeroth, it tries to summon a land mount indoors (it might try to summon a flying mount in Outland/Northrend, but haven't tried that). Probably should check for outdoors first
  2. For Druids, if you're indoors, I'd like to have another checkbox option to shift into cat form (if I'm currently in caster form) since there's a feral talent that increases cat form speed that works indoors now. This should be optional since not all druids would want this, as well as make sure you don't shift us out of any form other than caster.

I've incorporated your macro code into my own 'smart mount' macro for now. I need to do more testing, but it works fine in Azeroth.

/cast [swimming, nostance:2] Aquatic Form; [flyable, nostance:2/5] Swift Flight Form; [nostance, outdoors, combat] Travel Form
/click [outdoors] LivestockLandMountsButton
/cast [indoors, nostance:1/2/3] Cat Form
/cancelform [stance:2/4/5]
/dismount

Hi EvilJookie, thanks for the contributions. I'll add an indoors check -- I usually just wait until I'm safely outdoors before I try and mount up, but this will help cut down on some error text.

I'll also look into the best way to implement the cat form switch - it sounds like you'd want that to happen when you were indoors and indoors only? I'll see if that's possible - I *think* there are areas that the game as identifies as indoors even though you can mount there. I might be wrong though - I'll add this to the list!

Me too!

Erm, I mean, I guess I should work on that.

In reality, I'm trying to figure out exactly what CAUSES the issue. I haven't been able to reliably duplicate the bug on my own yet, which means I don't know how to address the fix. If you're really eager, try this additional step:

When you log in, type /run LivestockSettings = nil
Then try /console reloadui

This is an awesome mod! I love it. Please keep up the great work. This single mod has replaces two previous mods I was using (one for mounts and one for pets) with all of their functionality and it adds more functionality too.

Correct. The logic for travel form should be outdoors, incombat, and cat form (if option enabled hehe) should be indoors (combat or not, though it might be nice to only allow this switch if you are in caster form). Basically the cat form option allows ferals the extra speed when they can't use travel form.

The cat form switch only when in caster form option prevents accidental shifting in the heat of battle (mostly I mistype a lot when PvPing hehe). Going from bear to cat at the wrong time could be bad. Though this extra...extra feature could easily get postponed. In the end if I click my Smart Mount button when I don't mean to...it's my fault, not Smart Mounts hehe.

Heck if you want to be extra cool you could check for the druid talent directly (Feral Swiftness), though an option would be easier to implement at least as a first pass

OK so the newest version (1.0.4) has cat form option available indoors. However, I think the travel form logic overrides it at the moment. I.E. you get indoors, if you're not in combat, smart mounts turns you into a cat. As soon as you get in combat, it tries to turn you into travel form which will fail, obviously. I'll fix this shortly, if you want I can post the fix for you to implement on your own so you can fix it before I upload.

Thanks for helping keep track of the logic, by the way - as much as I'm taking a liking to using my own mod, I was never one for "smart, all-in-one" methods before so I am not used to thinking through the logic all the way yet.

Edit: OK, I've fixed the logic and it will be available in 1.0.5 with one caveat. Mods can only change spells in combat once - when you get into combat. So, if you get into combat inside, and have the Cat Form option checked, you'll see Smart Mount always cast Cat Form until you leave battle. If you get into combat outside, you'll have Smart Mount always cast Travel Form - even if you cross inside and try to use it there.

Unfortunately, this isn't avoidable. When you cross the threshold between indoors / outdoors, you have to be out of combat for the mod to properly re-assign spells to Smart Mounting.

Further edit: I do believe this is possible, if I can figure out how to create a state header under the new (and improved) system for writing secure handlers. I'm not holding my breath though...
