Meat Shield (discontiniued)

Version: RC1
by: leethal [More]

Discontiniued
I remade this addon bottom-up and re-released it, under the name Auto Whiner.

NEW VERSION: Auto Whiner

Info

Auto Whiner does the same thing as Meat Shield, only the other way around. Instead of you installing Meat Shield, alerting to public channels, you install Auto Whiner and get alerted when stuff happens.

So, say you're a healer. You download this addon, and configure it to alert when a warrior enables last stand. See? The other way around.

It also works for all classes, not just tanks. Rogue kick resists, mage polymorph resists, a paladin healing someone with lay on hands.. Yay!

Yeah, that's a good idea. I'm working on a new version now. It will support all classes, and be a general purpose PvE alert plugin. I'll probably add a way to configure the messages yourself. I have a pretty long to-do list, and I decided not to release it until the list is all cleaned up.

nice.

another suggestion that would be nice would be to make the messages stand out more, like adding *** in front and after the message. Its no problem for me, i just edited the lua, however not all may be confident enough to do that.

I only tested this OOC. And the lay on hands code is kind of fishy anyway. It just detects a LoH, and nothing else. So if someone else casts it on you, the alert will still appear.

I don't have a raiding paladin myself. I'll fetch one of the palas in the guild and test this properly.

Edit: actually, the error message is fixed in the latest version. Got a bit pwnd and uploaded a bugged one instead of the latest one. The one available for download now, though, shouldn't have this issue.

i found an error, but since it occured in combat i didn't have time to make a print of it.

What i noticed however was that
1. LoH did not notify in the channel i specified, actually not at all.
2. When using taunt after LoH didn't broadcast i got an error about layonhandsHP or something like that.
3. LoH doesn't broadcast at all for me

Yep, that's what the next release does. Some other bugs has also been fixed. Current release is buggy, and doesn't alert taunts. Uploading later today, probably in a couple of hours or so.

maybe untill/if you make it into a general alert mod, make it turn itself off when not a warrior/druid/paladin ? i've seen other class specific mods do that.

This addon is for warrior, druids and paladins only. Rogues aren't exactly meat shields, are they?

I've been thinking of making this into an alert addon in general, for all classes/situations, though, not just tanks. Any ideas for uses for a rogue?

Anyway, I'll make sure that you'll at least not get any error messages if you're a rogue. Thanks for the feedback!

Ah, of course. For some reason I was thinking that this was for the healer, calling out when he healed someone with LoH. But for a prot paladin LoH'ing himself, it is mighty usefull =) I'll add it in the next version for sure, thanks for the suggestion!

well, being a protection paladin myself and tanking in many situations, i only use Lay on Hands on myself because it gives me alot of health and gives me some mana aswell, announcing it may help the healers that are about to finish a long cast for a big heal to stop it so that they can switch to smaller heals if needed.

its mainly so that the healer knows when i used it so that they can change their heals accordingly.

Out of curiosity, how could that be useful? I could add something like "PaladinName used Lay on Hands on ThePlayer, healing for xxxxx HP (and armor if it is specced to give the armor buff)", but I don't really see why it's useful. If you give me a good reason to add it, though, I will =) Just trying to keep "useless" stuff out of there, some people might gonna spam the hell out of the raid heh.

maybe add the option to notify when a paladin has used Lay on Hands? would be very nice.
