EventAlert  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 4.7.6
by: CurtisTheGreat [More]

The addon will notify you in the middle of your screen with an icon, name of the spell that has procced, the time left on the proc and will make a subtle sound. EventAlert is also able to handle more than one proc at a time (this option was not available in previous versions).

I am not fond of addons that have very complicated installation and setups. The mod should work on install without any config, but if you wish to change any options use the following command: /ea options
To see a more detailed list of what options are avaiable to the mod, just check out the screenshot of the options pane.

This mod tracks the following events/procs:

  • Death Knight
    • Cinderglacier (Runeforging)
    • Dark Transformation

Quick Backstory: I created this addon as a test for myself as my first "from the ground up" addon. Most of my coding in WoW LUA was taking other addons and just fixing them so they work from minor bugs or whatnot.

Anyhow, I needed a mod that was lightweight and did only what I wanted it to do, and that was warn me when one of my spells or talents procced something I needed. Thus, EventAlert was born. There are likely to be bugs, explosions and not so good things that may come from this mod. I'm sorry in advance! If you find a bug, please let me know so I can fix it.

Also, if anyone finds a spell/talent/etc that they want watched, please let me know and I will add it!

4.7.6
Bugfix: Fixed problem with spell charges not showing up on alerts.
Bugfix: Fixed problem with alerts not showing when options changed without a reload.
Change: Added option to show/hide spell charges.

To see the full change log, view the changelog.txt file included in the EventAlert zip file.

Try click/dragging on the far left icon when you do the instructions I posted.

Click the icon options button.
Unlock the icon, so you can move it. (It's a checkbox at the top of the icon options window.)
Move the icon where you want it to be.
Re-lock the icon so you don't end up moving it around on accident.

Sorry I meant to reply sooner. I cleared the account Saved Vars. It didn't help although it's buggy behavior is slightly changed. Now it seems to recognize I've used a FoF proc and the proc timer stops counting but the icon just doesn't go away. This sets off a chain reaction of not recognizing any future FoF procs and counting them down. Yet once in a while it will seem to fix it's self and work for a proc or three. Until it once again I use a proc and it stops counting down but the icon stays starting the bad chain over again.

I'm going to kill the saved vars again and put in a fresh copy and try again next week. Maybe some bits and bytes got crossed in my download. <shrug>

See if that works.

Also, are you getting any errors this time?

Speaking of lack of diplomacy, the tipping point in your original post was this: "And if others don't agree, who cares, they are entitled to their opinion..." . Which is an attempt to silence debate & is in fact essentially saying: "Who cares if my request for these hard-coded procs is useless for nearly all users, I want it no matter what anyone says". Heh.

If you instead offered valid reasons (if there are any) as to why a proc alert mod should alert you to procs like Rune of the Fallen Crusader (or similar), things might be different. GL.

Ah yes, completely forgot about being able to easily add your own spell IDs in this .

Have just moved back to this from GoodNewsEveryone and like most people, don't need to be alerted to procs that are not currently hard-coded in this. For those who do like being alerted like that for whatever reasons, though, the option is there.
You still talking.............

Will have to check that out and get back with you on if there are any issues ie. lua errors with doing so. Thank you for the great response unlike the previous one. Great to get responses from the actual Author. Keep up the great work on this addon.

Like the previous poster, you don't seem to understand the purpose of proc alert mods like Event Alert. Having the author spend time adding code to throw up alerts for procs that you gain no benefit from knowing about is a complete waste of time.

Proc alert mods...alert you to procs that you can benefit from responding to. For example for Death Knights, Freezing Fog (use Howling Blast without consuming any runes), Killing Machine ("your melee attacks have a chance to make your next Icy Touch, Howling Blast or Frost Strike a critical strike.") & questionably Cinderglacier ("increase the damage by 20% for your next 2 attacks that deal Frost or Shadow damage").

Those are abilities that you should to respond to by doing something other than what you are currently doing. Cast a different spell when they proc, etc..

What possible benefit is there of knowing when Razorice, Fallen Crusader, Blood-Caked Blade & Icy Talons proc, other than "cool, they proced"? Could you explain?

There are a giant ton of different things that proc in the game. Talents, skills, items, etc.. The only ones that a proc alert mod needs to alert to are ones that are of benefit for the player to know, so they can take additional action based on that knowledge (cast a different spell, etc.). If you really want alerts to when everything in the game procs, regardless of the usefulness of that info...find a buff mod that allows you to make your buffs really, really large .

It is possible, yes... but not something I would prob add.
Yes, its totally unneeded in this. This is a proc alert mod (for your own procs), not an enemy-cast-alert mod.

Afflicted3 can handle enemy cast alerts for PvP, as can Witchcraft & others. For PvE casting alerts, BigWigs & DeadlyBossMods, along with Witchcraft above (among others).

For more PvP-specific mods, check out the PvP/Arena/BattleGrounds mod section on this site.
