Acaciaizm Semi  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 2.2
by: Acacia_ [More]

A somewhat lightweight UI compilation, intended to be used as is, or as a base for adding more of your personalized add-ons.

Updated for 3.1

Resolution: 1280x800
Frame rate cap: 30 fps

Change the frame rate cap with the in game command:
/console set maxfps xx
Change the screenshot file type from tga to jpg with the in game commands:
/console screenshotFormat jpg
/console screenshotQuality 3

Instructions:

1) Rename your WTF and INTERFACE folders to WTF_Backup and INTERFACE_Backup
2) Extract the INTERFACE, FONTS and WTF folders from the packs to your WoW root directory
3) In the WTF folder, rename the folders ACCOUNT NAME (your account name), Server (the server you're playing on) and Character (Your character name. Remember that you need to copy and rename this folder for all your alts). These folders are case sensitive.
4) Load up WoW and login
5) At the character selection screen, click "Addons" in the lower left portion of the screen. SINCE 3.0.2 Patch = BE SURE TO CHECK LOAD OUT OF DATE ADDONS. There are only a couple that are outdated, but they still function.
6) Video settings are by default set to midrange settings, redo your settings (graphics, Color depth etc) as you had them before.
7) You MUST set the following add-ons to their "default" profiles upon login to get the look represented on the screenshots!

  • Bartender4 (/bt4)
  • ClassTimer (/classtimer)
  • SLDataText (/sldt)
  • Satrina Buff Frames (/sbf options)
  • Eavesdrop (default interface options)
  • Recount (default interface options)
  • Eepanels (default interface options, should not be needed but reset every now and then)

8) /reload interface and enjoy!

Some reasoning behind this UI

------- EDIT -------

I no longer play on my old MacBook as it was unbearable playing Wrath on it considering the integrated gfx chip. I do however still play on a laptop, a Dell XPS M1330 which should be the equivalent performance wise to the new 13" MacBooks and 13" MacBook Pros.

The UI is hence still tailored to a laptop environment, however, not as memory efficient as it previously was (thank god, more addons ftw <.<)

------- END EDIT -------

I made this UI because I got myself a MacBook, and as anyone having a MacBook knows, their not really optimal for playing any games.

(Let me just point out here and now that you will have no issues using this UI on a PC, or with higher resolutions, you might just need to adjust the font sizes for some add-ons if you use a different resolution, and if you have a nice beefed up monster computer, you really don't need to read all of this ).

After reading some rather depressing threads on the official forms about optimizing settings for MacBooks, this is what I play with at the moment.

My MacBook is a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 GB RAM.
The RAM does help quite a bit, so if you have a similar configuration but with less ram, I suggest you lower some settings according to below.

Though it's not really optimal to use some of the texture settings with this UI (just lower them if you encounter any issues), it still works fairly well on my computer. You will of course have lag in Shattrath which isn't really avoidable, but instancing and leveling should be fairly smooth.

I'm also fairly sure that you could lower the load on your computer by exchanging the bar, and unit frame add-ons. I just realized I couldn't live without them

To that end, I've also included Bartender4 and Buttonfacade if you want to exchange Bartender3 and cyCircled (somewhat less demanding).

As I do not raid on the MacBook, I've not included add-ons such as oRA or BigWigs though feel free to add them yourself if you need them or any other add-ons.

(and before anyone asks, no, pMinimap doesn't have a configuration option, you will need to edit the add-on files to make any changes)

I must say, it's been quite a process trying to retro-fit the awesome UI's I want to actually work with my dated computer. I'm really excited to try this out. It looks great and has all the addon's I really need.

Just out of curiosity, how is the FPS capped at 30? I usually get about 59FPS indoors and in 5-man instances, it's just the outside world that I chug along at a measly 20-30 FPS. Is this cap something I can adjust?

Thank you for putting together such a workable UI. Again, I'm excited to put this to the test.

The general thought is that if you cap the frame rate, the computer doesn't have to work as hard, pushing it up. You can of course cap it at a higher number, or play with it to see what fits your spec

Just use the console command as detailed on the add-on info page:
/console set maxfps xx

... where the xx is the number you want to use.

Hope it works out for you

When you say set your max fps? Do you mean the most you want to get? Right now, my computer sucks, I expect to get a video card within a few months, but im gettin a crappy 4-15 fps. I was just wondering if this would be a good UI for me then.

For some reason it just doesn't wanna look like yours, I've deleted cache, checked the wtf folder for mistakes like ten times, same with addon folder, etc.

I've set the cap on the principle that your computer (gfx card) always *wants* to push up the fps as high as possible, resulting in higher resources being spent to that end. 30 is about what I am happy with as a high cap on my macbook which sucks for playing games. The cap basically tells the computer to be content when it reaches 30, and never mind trying to get it higher. Sorta.

Pre patch 3.0.2, I could have confidently told you that this should be a good UI for you. Right now however, some add-ons are being reworked and I can't guarantee that some of them won't be more demanding for a while than they used to be. But I can say you could definitely give it a shot.

I would really help if I could see a screenshot but just to be sure that your re-naming your folders correctly:

Place all of the folders in the pack in your root World of Warcraft folder like so:

World of Warcraft:
- WTF
- Fonts
- Interface
--- Addons

In the WTF folder, you need to rename 3 folders:

WTF
- Account
-- ACCOUNT NAME (needs to be your account name)
--- Server (Needs to be your server name)
---- Character (Needs to be your Character name)

If you have several characters, you need to copy the character folder several times for each char.

If it still doesn't look right, I've probably screwed something up with the packaging. If so, when you log into the game, set the following add-ons to the "Default" profile:

Bartender4 (/bt4)
ClassTimer (/classtimer)
SLDataText (/sldt)
Satrina Buff Frames (/sbf options)

Again, I'll have another update within a few days, there are many add-ons that are being updated pretty regularity right now.

Firstly you have a different resolution from what the pack was originally created for so somethings are going to be off. Secondly, load the default add-on profiles as instructed below and it'll look better

Right, I've gone through the SavedVariables folder and checked the .lua files of the add-ons that won't load the profile properly.

The add-ons Bartender4 (/bt4), SatrinaBuff Frames (/sbf options), ClassTimer (/classtimer) and SLDataText (/sldt) does NOT save character specific settings in the <Character> folder any longer.

Which in turn means that I can't pack up the settings so that it can be "layout done" when you log in. Anyone downloading these add-ons in my (or anyone else's for that matter) pack, must set these add-ons to the "default" profile manually upon first login. This is also true for any additional characters that you want to use the pack for.

I know the standard for "Ace 3" add-ons follows the principle of character specific profiles, and not "default" as done earlier with Ace 2, which is what's causing this.

true, the res is 1280x1024 ... kinda strange res you use :P

thanks for the repack.
could fix the most of it by profile-changing, although all the bars and so on look much "bigger", not as small as your SS shows.

sbf isnt working i think, can use the command /sbf options but then i im just allowed to move the bars, not to resize or anything else. no horizontal, no sizing, no unlock after the command ... dont know how to load a profile in sbf, no profiles listed after prompting some of the commands in the chat.

more issues to come soon :P
give it a try later this day.

thanks.

Update Satrina from the beta addon that's available here on Wowinterface. Satrina has done about 3 updates since I uploaded the pack.

My screen resolution if from wide screen laptops, that's also why your UI looks different from mine, you'll have to manually go in and adjust those.

I'll probably have a new version up soon again with alot of add-on fixes.

after long hard work i got mine nearly perfect for 1280x1024 (looking as on the SSs).
was a lot about fonts, fontsize, moving, and so on ... but i finished it, just some adjustements in a few addons, but not that important.

thanks again for this really good UI. keep it up man, hope to see updates or new UIs in the future
