Mapster  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 1.5.6.1
by: Nevcairiel [More]
Mapster is a very simple world map enhacement addon, which was designed to work in conjunction with all other map addons out there. The idea to create Mapster originated from pure lack of a simplistic addon that only modifies the world map, without adding a full scale feature set.

Features
  • Map Style (Scale & Alpha)
  • Coordinates
  • Fog of War removal
  • Enhancement of the raid/party group icons
  • Access to the WotLK Instance Maps from anywhere!

You can access the Mapster configuration menu through the new button on the world map, as shown in the screenshot.
All features (except the style) can be turned off individually if you do not need/want them.

If you're looking for a replacement to Cartographer, i also recommend the following addons:

In Mapster.lua, replace the following code (it should be around line 127):

Code:
	hooksecurefunc(WorldMapTooltip, "Show", function(self)
		self:SetFrameStrata("TOOLTIP")
	end)
With this:

Code:
	wmfOnShow(WorldMapFrame)
	hooksecurefunc(WorldMapTooltip, "Show", function(self)
		self:SetFrameStrata("TOOLTIP")
	end)
I don't seem to have any trouble opening my map in combat after making this change, so that fix should still be okay.
I couldnt reproduce any issues with QuestHelper at all with the latest version of Mapster. Can you try if it still occurs for you with 1.3.3 and what exactly happens?

I can turn off the clamp to screen, i guess. Or at least make it an option.

Done in 1.3.3

That should be easy, will try to remember it.

That should also not be too hard, i guess. Will see how it goes.

That doesnt belong in Mapster, and will never go in there.

Thats something Atlas itself should do, not Mapster. Nothing is really stopping it from doing it right now. Afterall Mapster just modifys the default map, if somethign works with blizzards map, it should work with Mapster too.

If you want to make sure i don't forget, post the feature requests on WoWAce in the Ticket Tracker --> http://www.wowace.com/addons/mapster/tickets/
You're the best! :-D

I find that MapNotes seems to work just fine with Mapster, and also has additional support notes to use with Atlas.

I'm still having this issue with Mapster 1.3.3 and QuestHelper 1.3.5. The below screenshots highlight the issue and were taken immediately after logging in. I still haven't had the time to turn off all my other addons to see if something else is causing this issue.

Hm the button appears fine for me. Not at first, but then it appears, but i guess thats QH's weird loading system.

I'll try some stuff later today.

EDIT:
Calling wmfOnShow manually like in the patch before still fixes it for you? I guess there is no harm in doing so.

That does appear to be the case for me, at least. 1.3.3 normal screws up the button, adding the wmfOnShow line makes it show up properly.

Replacing Cartographer

As you mention finding a replacement for Cartographer, there is one small feature of that previously great, now sadly neglected addon that I miss. It's the level range text that appeared when hovering over zones. It would also be useful to have this added to the end of the zone names in the zone drop-down list. Then it would be visible for the current zone as well. Any chance of giving this a go?
Also, for people who want to replace the old Cartographer notes module, you could point them in the direction of HandyNotes. I particularly love the EveryQuest extension to it that displays the quest giver icon for every quest you haven't yet completed. Very useful for obtaining the Loremaster achievement!

Sadly, Mapnotes is no longer being maintained. It was one of my favorites back in the day when I was a young dwarf and the world was new. So many places and things to remember.

Nev,

It's worth noting that if you open the map immediately after logging in, the QH button shows up fine after a second or two. If you wait about 5 seconds or more after logging and I suspect you'll not see the button either. This might explain why it's working fine for you.

Click the button that got you into minimized mode again =P (In the top bar, next to the close button - will appear on mouse over)

You use a "locale" folder (with a small 'l') for Babelfish.lua and a "Locale" folder (with a capital 'L') for the rest. While this works fine on Windows it does cause issues on Mac OS X with a case sensitive file system.
I can work around that manually. But the *@?& Curse client chokes up on this. I stopped using curse, since that's not the only issue, but it would still be nice if you could fix this in a future release.
Thanks for the nice addon btw.
