Azuarc's Leveling Guide (for Alliance)
v 1.5
***********************************
Azuarc's Leveling Guide is an in-game version of Azaurc's excellent leveling guides that are available at Allakhazam.com (see this link for prelude and table of contents).
If you're not familiar with Azuarc's guides, they provide a quest-based method of leveling Alliance characters (sorry, there's currently not a version for the Horde side) from level 12 to level 70 (note that Azuarc's guides are still under development and the guide stops at level 67).
A word of warning: while this add-on version contains all the essential information, it is edited for content and length. Graphics are not displayed, so maps and other visual information is missing. Also, links and other web-style artifacts are not available either. As a result, it is *highly* recommended that you read the web-based version first and then use this version as a reminder of where to go next.
** Features **
- Quick access to individual chapters via a drop-down menu
- Forward/back and first/last access to scenes
- Character-based memory of last chapter and page accessed
- Editable guides (note that only currently displayed guide can be edited, and edits are lost when switching chapters)
- Access bindable to a hotkey
- Searchable pages
- 10 different user-selectable fonts
- Optional Minimap button access
- Optionally runs as FuBar plugin
** Instructions ***
How do I install it? - Just unzip to your interface\addons directory.
How do I run it? - type /azuarc or /alg to bring up the notepad (note that access can also be bound to a hotkey via the standard WOW interface. You can also click the optional minimap button.
How do I use it? - Click the "Select Chapter" button to choose the appropriate chapter for your level (note that it will remember the last page number and chapter accessed for each character, enabling you to level multiple characters at the same time without having to switch back and forth). Mouse over the other buttons for tooltips -- they're fairly self-explanatory.
** FAQ ** (note that these have been updated since the beta)
1) The interface is weird - it looks like a word processor, not a book.
You are probably viewing the stand-alone version. I originally chose this option for speed of development. However, if you are running Fubar, it will function as a fubar plugin, with the text displaying in the tooltip, which provides for a much cleaner appearance.
2) Are you Azuarc?
No, I'm dfscott (aka Cailee on the Exodar server). The guides themselves are authored by Azuarc -- please don't bug him with questions about the addon.
3) Did you write the guides?
No, I only wrote the addon -- please don't bug me with questions about the guide info. Go to the Allakhazam website and add your comments there. Azuarc is generally good about updating his guides and I'll try and get the new version incorporated into this addon.
4) Why does the stand-alone version look like TinyPad?
Because it's based on it (see credits below). It was the easiest way to get something up and running quickly. I may end up changing it to something less "editable", but some people seemed to like the editing ability. If you have Fubar, you can try that version for a different look.
5) Why does the guide stop at level 69?
That's as far as Azuarc has gotten. I will update the addon with Azuarc's updates as they come available. Note that squeaky wheels tend to get the most attention, so post feedback!
6) How much memory does this take?
I'm not 100% sure. I'm not an expert at performance optimization. I feel it's probably not much, but if it turns out to be significant, I will change to a "load-on-demand" model. Any info in this area would be appreciated.
7) Why isn't this an Ace addon?
I wanted to keep this as small as possible. Considering the simplicity of the mod, I didn't think it warranted all the overhead associated with Ace. However, if I find a decent Ace-based UI, I may go with it for ease of use.
8) I have Fubar, but I see it as a minimap button instead of a Fubar plugin.
Right-click the minimap button and you'll see a menu option called Attach to minimap. Uncheck that option and you should see it on your Fubar.
9) Why doesn't this have [waypoints, map integration, step-by-step instructions, an interactive list, etc.]?
This is not intended to be a way to mindlessly grind through the levels (don't get me wrong, there's a time for everything -- even mindless grinding!). This provides a casual, yet efficient way to level by completing quests. IMO, this makes for a more enjoyable experience than "do A, now do B, now do C", etc. YMMV, and there are other addons that take a different approach.
** Credits **
All guide data provided courtesy of Azuarc. The stand-alone UI and data format is based on Gello's TinyPad, a lightweight notepad mod. Special thanks to Malcolm Chambers for creating the TinyPadEditor to make entering this data in *much* easier!
Azuarc's level guide is used by permission of both Azuarc and Allakhazam
** Support **
Please post all errors and suggestions here (http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/fileinfo.php?id=7631) and I will try and address them. Corrections to guide content should be posted at Azuarc's guide at http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/guides.html?guide=963.

Re: Mini-Map button position
1) Are you using the version downloaded from this site or are you using WowAceUpdater and downloading the most recent versions that way? 2) Do you have Fubar installed? |

Mini-Map button position
Love the guide. Love the Addon. I have one issue that annoys me. EVERY time I start up, the mini-map button positions itself in the upper left corner. It's right over some other buttons. No matter how many times I move it, it's always in the way when I start back up. How can I change this default so it initializes to a different position?

now I'm duplicating the problem
Ok, it's happening on my main now, but not on my alt. I'm guessing there's a conflict with an add-on somewhere. I'll try and narrow it down.
Edit: Ok, I think I've fixed it, but I was using an SVN version. If you were using WoWAceUpdater, getting the latest version from the SVN should fix it. If you downloaded 1.3 from here, I'm not sure what the problem is. If anyone else is having this problem, please let me know -- otherwise, I'll consider it fixed.

Hmm... It should load by default. It looks for Fubar and then attaches to it if it finds it (I'm running Fubar myself).
I'm at work right now so I can't check it out but it might have to do with the order the addons load. I'll take a look tonight and see what's going on. In the meantime, you could try adding the following line to the Azuarc.toc file right after the X-Category line: Code:
## OptionalDeps: FuBarPlugin-2.0

I installed this and I don't see the Fubar support. I went into the Rock Configurator, saw all the available Fubar modules that could be displayed, and this wasn't one of um.
Any ideas?

Thanks for the feedback, xelepart.
I am currently looking at adding some level of map integration. There are coordinates listed in the guides, but probably not as many as in some others I've read. I would suggest you check out http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/guides.html?guide=963 and take a look at the source guides to get an idea (scroll down the to bottom to see the actual guide links). I am working on both highlighting and adding clickable coords to the fubar plugin. When I play my chars, I use Lightheaded to handle coordinates/waypoints if needed, otherwise, the written directions are generally enough to get me wehre I need to go. And as far as maps, I use Cartographer and just turn the foglight on, but it might be worth considering a pop-up map with key areas noted. As far as a totally integrated version like you suggest, I considered that a while back, but since TourGuide was already underway and considering the author, Tekkub, is much better at this than I am, I decided to just put this out there as a stop-gap until it is ready since there are other tools that handle a lot of that functionality anyway. Frankly, this is really just meant to prevent the alt-tabbbing back to Allakhazam. If that doesn't bother you, you probably won't get a lot from this. However, it really speeds up my progress since my system really slows down after a few alt-tabs...

Map integration?
Hey. I haven't read this guide yet, but I have read a couple guides in the past. Does this guide give coordinates for things? Or just general descriptions of where it is/how to get there? I was thinking you could easily integrate to Cartographer or TomTom to add/remove waypoints for where to go next, to make life even easier....
Also, you could have it if you mouse over someone who is noted in the current scene/chapter/whatever, put the sentence involving their name into the tooltip... stuff like that. Then? Then this would be totally sweet. Also, a lot of people don't mind a buncha images to load up. Obviously, external links aren't very usfeul (but you could cut and paste them)... I'd say, if it's not too much work, having two versions -- one minimalistic, one with all the info, and let people choose which version they like best. I think map integration would be important for me to want to load this as a mod, though. Otherwise, I could just alt-tab and read from Allakhazam. The best bonus of having it in game is having it integrate with the game to give you more information! -x |

Is it safe to assume that this is generally meant for alliance only (similar to the website) or have you added horde quests as well? If it is alliance only - you might want to add that to your description.

Version 1.1
I've released a version 1.1 which contains minimap button access (enabled by default but you can right-click to turn it off).
There's also the beginnings of Fubar support. If the addon sees that Fubar is loaded, it will use it in preference to the minimap button, but if you don't want to integrate with fubar (the popup might be annoying to some), you can simply disable it in fubar and use it normally (or even manually enable the minimap button and use that access method). As always, feedback and bug reports are encouraged. |

In the meantime, if you want to give the keybindings a try, you just do it like you bind any other build-in WoW function such as Autorun or Sit. Hit [ESC] - select Key Bindings from the menu, then scroll down until you see Azuarc's Leveling Guide as a category. You should see an option there to bind a key to open/hide the app. |
