LightHeaded  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: v100002-1.0.0-2022-12-15
by: Cladhaire [More]

Classic not updated at the moment, only retail.

LightHeaded is a very simple addon that displays quest information and comments from http://www.wowhead.com in game, eliminating the need to Alt-Tab when you get stuck on quest. This addon was inspired by qcomments and wowhead_quests, which both serve a similar purpose. Data is only loaded when you first request it, so you can be sure you're not using more memory than you need to.

I HIGHLY suggest using this addon with TomTom, another one of my addons (http://www.wowinterface.com/download...32-TomTom.html ). This allows you to simply click any coordinate in LightHeaded to add it to your map as a waypoint.

The following slash commands are valid:
  • /lh attach - Attaches the frame to the quest log
  • /lh detach - Detaches the frame, allows you to resize and move it
  • /lh sound - Toggles the open/close sound
  • /lh page - Toggles showing all comments on one page, or with multiple pages
  • /lh bgalpha <0.0-1.0> - Changes the alpha of the LH window background textures, so you can see the world.
  • /lh debug - Enables or disabled debug messages when loading quest databases
  • /lh config - Opens the LightHeaded configuration window
  • /lh autodetails - Toggle automatic opening of the Lightheaded window when clicking a quest in the objective tracker

LightHeaded now includes the English descriptions and introductory text for most of the quests in the game. This is disabled by default, but can be enabled for those players that are not playing in their native locale.

LightHeaded supports sending coordinates to TomTom, MapNotes, Cartographer2 and Cartographer3.

IMPORTANT: Addon authors that wish to use this API and data should
include the wowhead logo in the frame that displays this information.
They are kind enough to let me continue parsing their database, and we
owe them at least that much. Thank you.

Thanks for using my addons!

Updated 2022-12-15 for retail.

I'm having the exact same issue - even with only Cartographer, Cartographer_Waypoints and Lightheaded loaded, LH waypoints don't show up in Cart. Instead I get a chat log message saying this version of Cartographer doesn't support them. I'm pretty sure I'm using the latest version, though.

A) This is happening to all the quest, but once again, it does work once i use that command /lh page a couple times.
B) -----------------------------------------------------------------------(Alliance at the moment)
C) Not sure, where do i turn that on in the interface, i cant find it
D) yes

More likely, the modules aren't loaded - as this is the exact behavior I am able to yield if I select a quest without one of the modules loaded from the char sel screen.
The average user does not need to be notified every single time a file is loaded. I may split them into two different options, but not right at the moment.

k, if you are like me and prefer notes to waypoints in cartographer, in the lightheaded.lua simply replace the 2 instances of :

if Cartographer_Waypoints and type(Cartographer_Waypoints.AddLHWaypoint) == "function" then
Cartographer_Waypoints:AddLHWaypoint(nil, nil, x, y, note)
elseif Cartographer_Waypoints then
self:Print("LightHeaded waypoints are not supported in this version of Cartographer_Waypoints.")
end

with:
if Cartographer_Notes then
zone = Cartographer:GetCurrentEnglishZoneName()
Cartographer_Notes:SetNote(zone, x/100, y/100, note, "LightHeaded")
end

If it would be possible to add this as a shift click or something, i would be very happy.

Perhaps altering it so that debug is ON by default? Perhaps let it be an opt out for users? It might save some headache on relaying the first step in helping you solve an issue rather than potentially not hearing from someone after they post (which I would imagine sucks to have happen, as an author).

More likely, the modules aren't loaded - as this is the exact behavior I am able to yield if I select a quest without one of the modules loaded from the char sel screen.

No, it should just work. Disable all addons but LightHeaded and TomTom. Somethign else is clearly interfering. You also may want to run /lh debug to see if you're getting any load errors.

You rock, Clad

Anyways, I found out that Ludwig can search via item name, too, so I will use that.

Wowhead is cool because it actually shows where such item came from (craft, drop, vendor, etc).

LH+Quest title search would be awesome.

This is because the only way we can uniquely identify quests in game is using the title and level of the quest. LightHeaded has no way to identify these quests in game (outside of the game we have quest id).

The comments are also sometimes duplicated or include the ones from the first half of the quest. This also works in converse where any repeatable quest chain includes the comments for the follow-up quest (repeatable version) in the initial quest's comments.
What happens during parsing, is all quests with the same quest title and level get lumped together, but I display the unique qid for each of them so you can differentiate. Any comments in one of these quests (they are ENTIRELY separate on WowHead.com) is included in the bundle. If you're getting repeated comments, its due to the same comment existing on multiple quest ids. I could parse out any comments that have the exact same text, but that would be somewhat unreliable, and wouldn't always help).

Also, I second having some sort of minor search functionality. Would the level of the quest really be neccessary though? Perhaps just a simple text based query for best-match for the quest name? That would seem most accessible - but not sure how you've got it operating under the hood.
It absolutely needs both the quest title and the quest level. The level is what I use to only load the relevant data from the library, to cut down on memory usage. Also, to be completely honest, this isn't meant to replace wowhead. The most functionality I intend to give is to allow you to look up a quest, if someone can give you the name/level of the quest (so you can assist them).

Make sense?

Good stuff! Thanks for the debug changes!

Clad - one thing I noticed is that quests that start as a chain (repeatable) end up having a duplicate quest entry for the repeatable aspect of the quest.

For example, check out "More Obsidian Warbeads" for Consortium. Many other examples escape me at the moment but I know it isn't strictly repeatable quest lines also. There's the <animal> Mastery quests in Nagrand that exhibit this duplicate quest behavior.

So it'll show as:

1. Talbuk Mastery
2. Talbuk Mastery
3. Talbuk Mastery

Then when you click on the second quest (2. Talbuk Mastery) it appears as:

1. Talbuk Mastery
2. Talbuk Mastery
3. Talbuk Mastery

And then the quest info (level, exp, rep gain/loss, etc.) is repeated twice below.

The comments are also sometimes duplicated or include the ones from the first half of the quest. This also works in converse where any repeatable quest chain includes the comments for the follow-up quest (repeatable version) in the initial quest's comments.

When I get in from work I will post more info if needed.

Also, I second having some sort of minor search functionality. Would the level of the quest really be neccessary though? Perhaps just a simple text based query for best-match for the quest name? That would seem most accessible - but not sure how you've got it operating under the hood.

Good stuff! Thanks for the debug changes!

You could use LudWig for item searching.
