LightHeaded  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: v100002-1.0.0-2022-12-15
by: Cladhaire [More]

Classic not updated at the moment, only retail.

LightHeaded is a very simple addon that displays quest information and comments from http://www.wowhead.com in game, eliminating the need to Alt-Tab when you get stuck on quest. This addon was inspired by qcomments and wowhead_quests, which both serve a similar purpose. Data is only loaded when you first request it, so you can be sure you're not using more memory than you need to.

I HIGHLY suggest using this addon with TomTom, another one of my addons (http://www.wowinterface.com/download...32-TomTom.html ). This allows you to simply click any coordinate in LightHeaded to add it to your map as a waypoint.

The following slash commands are valid:
  • /lh attach - Attaches the frame to the quest log
  • /lh detach - Detaches the frame, allows you to resize and move it
  • /lh sound - Toggles the open/close sound
  • /lh page - Toggles showing all comments on one page, or with multiple pages
  • /lh bgalpha <0.0-1.0> - Changes the alpha of the LH window background textures, so you can see the world.
  • /lh debug - Enables or disabled debug messages when loading quest databases
  • /lh config - Opens the LightHeaded configuration window
  • /lh autodetails - Toggle automatic opening of the Lightheaded window when clicking a quest in the objective tracker

LightHeaded now includes the English descriptions and introductory text for most of the quests in the game. This is disabled by default, but can be enabled for those players that are not playing in their native locale.

LightHeaded supports sending coordinates to TomTom, MapNotes, Cartographer2 and Cartographer3.

IMPORTANT: Addon authors that wish to use this API and data should
include the wowhead logo in the frame that displays this information.
They are kind enough to let me continue parsing their database, and we
owe them at least that much. Thank you.

Thanks for using my addons!

Updated 2022-12-15 for retail.

I'll try to make them customizable in an upcoming versino, but I chose the default HTML blue for links, which may be why it has a problem on a black background. Thanks for the feedbakc.

One of the EQL authors is working on it, but thats up to them instead of my addon unfortunately.

LightHeaded only provides the coordinates, its up the mod that places them to provide something like this. As a result you won't ever see something like this.

Also, since the rewards for quests are known and the ItemID's are usually listed with the rewards on WoWHead... would it be possible to implement a ItemLink/basic iconography (placeholder, etc.) that may either be clicked/linked or mouseover tooltip? If so, using the Blizzard provided "equipment comparison" code would be awesome here. I'm not sure how you'd want to display that, or even where... perhaps an expandable/collapsible bullet under the quest itself?
This is primarily useful for quest chains where the user is not as far along on the chain as can be but would still like to see what is available as a reward. The ItemID's might even be able to be polled rather than stored, similar to how Saeris does so with LootLink when first querying newly added items (safety check).[/quote]

This is mostly/somewhat outside of the scope of this addon, I don't want to get into the business of providing a full scale browse of the entire database... I have to draw a line somewhere.

And while we're on the topic of things possibly beyond the intent of this addon, in addition to the above (if implemented in some fashion), perhaps using the "same" expandable/collapsible bullet might also yield the WoWHead provided quick quest blurb (the summary of the quest).
Nope sorry.

Both might be available as options for the user to toggle since some may desire not to chew up small bits of UI memory but for those willing to sacrifice it, I'd honestly be thrilled to have this sort of functionality.
Thats great, but its not just the user, its the amount of parsing and conversion that I have to keep up with.

Lastly, would it be possible to color the reputation gain/loss? Or perhaps changing the hyphen (dash) in the rep field to something like a colon? "Faction_name: 500"

As is, at least on my screen, it looks like I'm losing rep. This might also help with rep quests where, for instance, Scryers rep is gained but Aldor rep is lost. If you went the color route, obviously green = positive (gain), red = negative (loss), or at the very least it would read "Scryers: 500" then below that (or wherever) "Aldor: -650"
Sure, if you post the request on googlecode, otherwise it won't get implemented.

Ok cool

It's pretty much the same with Atlas so I understand.

Thanks for the clarification! Off to go try out the addon(s).

One comment/suggestion though: AtlasLoot utilizes many sub-addons (plugins, etc.) and is able to contain them inside a single root directory, rather than having the core addon folder then a bunch of separate folders outside of it. Perhaps contain all the Lightheaded plugin/module folders in the one, single LightHeaded addon folder?
No, the reason for this specific structure is that its the only way to load NO data unless absolutely necessary, and to only load the data required. Plugins are quite different from 12 megs worth of data that needs to be stored. If I didn't do this, I would have to load every single comment for every single quest, both Horde and Alliance. You wouldn't want that level of memory usage, or the slow down that happens when its loaded.

TomTom is a small addon of mine that works great with LH, sorry it wasn't stated clearly anywhere.

Is cartographer better than MapNotes? All I use it for is making notes on the map... and I like how it auto notates landmarks for me, etc.

Sharing notes with the party is nice, too, if both users have it installed.

Since you seem adamant about only directly supporting Tomtom and Cartographer, I'm curios what the major benefit to using Cartographer over MapNotes might be.

This mod only integrates natively with TomTom and Cartographer_Waypoints.

They can code support for LightHeaded, unfortunately I don't have time to hunt down each quest addon in order to make them all play nicely. Have that author get in touch with me if they need more information.
