LightHeaded  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: v100002-1.0.0-2022-12-15
by: Cladhaire [More]

Classic not updated at the moment, only retail.

LightHeaded is a very simple addon that displays quest information and comments from http://www.wowhead.com in game, eliminating the need to Alt-Tab when you get stuck on quest. This addon was inspired by qcomments and wowhead_quests, which both serve a similar purpose. Data is only loaded when you first request it, so you can be sure you're not using more memory than you need to.

I HIGHLY suggest using this addon with TomTom, another one of my addons (http://www.wowinterface.com/download...32-TomTom.html ). This allows you to simply click any coordinate in LightHeaded to add it to your map as a waypoint.

The following slash commands are valid:
  • /lh attach - Attaches the frame to the quest log
  • /lh detach - Detaches the frame, allows you to resize and move it
  • /lh sound - Toggles the open/close sound
  • /lh page - Toggles showing all comments on one page, or with multiple pages
  • /lh bgalpha <0.0-1.0> - Changes the alpha of the LH window background textures, so you can see the world.
  • /lh debug - Enables or disabled debug messages when loading quest databases
  • /lh config - Opens the LightHeaded configuration window
  • /lh autodetails - Toggle automatic opening of the Lightheaded window when clicking a quest in the objective tracker

LightHeaded now includes the English descriptions and introductory text for most of the quests in the game. This is disabled by default, but can be enabled for those players that are not playing in their native locale.

LightHeaded supports sending coordinates to TomTom, MapNotes, Cartographer2 and Cartographer3.

IMPORTANT: Addon authors that wish to use this API and data should
include the wowhead logo in the frame that displays this information.
They are kind enough to let me continue parsing their database, and we
owe them at least that much. Thank you.

Thanks for using my addons!

Updated 2022-12-15 for retail.

Hey Clad! Very happy to see you're still plugging away at LH!

I'm going to be setting this up for my girlfriend on her WoW install and this prompted me to ask: Any chance on getting a new scrape of the wowhead DB for comments?

I notice the last scrape/parse performed was in March and she pointed this out as well, making her a bit reluctant to want to use it.

No worries either way! Just glad to see you're still at it. How did the book stuff go, btw? Whens the next one coming?

I'm posting because I am noticing a problem with the usefulness of LH, and I'm not sure there's anything anyone can "do" about it, but I thought I'd check.

Posts that detail the quest chains, in great detail, tend to completely fill up my LH space for some quests, so much so that I often can't view the "real" quest help posts.

Is there some way for me to turn those posts off, or amp up the line allotment within my LH window? I'm in Icecrown now, and man, those quests are in long chains, which means I don't get help with any of them.

But I'm painfully aware of the finer details of those quest chains. -_-

You have a few options:

1. Turn on paging using /lh page, then use page navigation instead of scroll navigation
2. Detach the window using /lh detach and make the window a larger size

I'm working on a new parse, but a lot has changed and that requires me making changes to the data parser. Once I get that all sorted out, I'll get updated information in the addon.

Isn't it about time for you to read the comment I made immediately prior to yours? =)

Hi, not sure if this has been posted before or not. I attempted to search the post for this and did not see it requested. So I am going to ask it.

Since you are reworking LH a little anyway...

Can you add to the parser option to only select those posts flagged as useful and then make a LHLite version.

Or if not....

Add an option to LH to only display Useful posts?

The second is 10,000 more likely. I'll look at it, but what constitutes a "useful" post? That sounds like a completely arbitrary measure to me.

Will it seams if we look at an example in wowhead
This is just a randomly selection quest

Feeding the Survivors

See the green text....
I believe the green text appears that way based on rating level.
And from the ones I looked at 10+ appears to make it so.

So if you are including the post's rating level in the parsing, then one could set which min level and above to show.

Of course Rating is an opinion and the default in the app would be 0+

Comments are already sorted by rating so the more useful ones appear at the top, but I don't really see any harm in including this. I'll have to think on it.

Thanks for the reply Clad!

I noticed you updated the comments nearly the same day and we've just now gone ahead and installed it on her machine.

As for any reworking (as I've seen alluded to here in the posts), does LH do any indexing in the A, B, C (and so on) modules based on Quest ID?

If so - would it be possible to ONLY load the module responsible for the quest selected? I notice that my memory usage goes from around 20MB up to nearly 90 whenever I press the L key for the first time (open quest log). And this itself (pressing L key) causes the title to hang for approx 5-8 seconds.

Just a random question. As always, very glad to have been able to enjoy your contributions to the scene and game!

Best wishes

This is exactly how LightHeaded already works.
