Grid  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 8.0.1.1
by: Phanx [More]

Grid has been continued as Plexus by Doadin. Use that instead; Grid has not been updated since 2018 and will not be updated in the future.

Grid is a compact and highly configurable party/raid unit frame addon.
The compact grid of unit frames lets you select a group member quickly, while keeping a good overview of the whole group. It shows as much information as possible without overloading you. It allows you to customize what information you see, and how you see it. It works in both party and raid groups, and supports pets and vehicles.

Want more features? The Grid core tries to include only features which are generally useful for all classes and roles, but makes it easy to add new features with a simple plugin API for developers. Over 75 third-party plugins are already available!

Type “/grid” for options, or right-click the minimap button, DataBroker launcher, or Grid frame tab.

Do not use comments to report bugs or request features. Such comments will be deleted. Use the links above to post a ticket instead!
Language Support
Grid is compatible with all World of Warcraft localizations. It is currently translated into English, Deutsch, Español, Français, Italiano, Português, Русский, 한국어, 简体中文, and 繁體中文.

To add or update translations for any language, enter them on the WowAce project page. New and updated translations will be automatically included in the next version of Grid!

HINT: The WowAce interface for adding translations is quite cumbersome. To make the process easier, you can use the Export function on WowAce, copy the exported data into your text editor, fill in your translations, and then paste them back into WowAce using the Import function.
Credits
Grid was originally conceived and written by Maia and Pastamancer in late 2006. Phanx has been the primary developer since late 2009. Jerry wrote the original pet support code. Mikk designed the icon. jlam added some advanced options for auras. Greltok has helped a lot with bugfixing. Finally, lots of people have contributed translations!

Statuses:
  • Fixed the Mouseover status (ticket #748)
  • Fixed the icons for the Role and Master Looter statuses
  • Fixed the appearance of the Group Leader, Group Assistant, and Master Looter statuses when shown on icon-type indicators
Indicators:

Known Issues
  • WoW is currently reporting incoming heal and absorb amounts that are much too small, so Grid will also show incoming heal and absorb amounts that are much too small. There is nothing I can do about this other than wait for Blizzard to fix the problem on their end.
  • The layout options have not yet been updated for the new raid sizes in Warlords of Draenor.
  • Some users have reported that certain debuffs are not activating the Debuff Type statuses. See ticket #760.
  • Some users have reported that the right-click menu is not working correctly when Clique is enabled. See ticket #747.
  • Some users have reported that the Resurrection status is not working. See ticket #745.
Please do not post new tickets about these issues. Check the existing ticket, and if you have new information to add about the issue, post a comment on the ticket.

If you're talking about the background frame, go to Grid > Layout > Background color > change the alpha (transparency) value with the slider on the right side of the color picker frame.

If you're talking about the individual unit frames, assign some status to the Frame Alpha indicator whose color has an alpha value < 1.

Version 6.0.3.1710
  • Temporary fix for raid difficulty detection: LFR, Normal, and Heroic will use your chosen "Flexible Raid" layout, and Mythic will use your "25 Player Raid" layout. In the near future, all built-in layouts will automatically adjust their size for your current raid, and there will only be one "Raid" layout setting.
  • Fixed an issue with right-click bindings in Clique (ticket #747)
  • Fixed the Mouseover status not triggering when "Show Tooltip" was set to "Never" (ticket #770)
  • Fixed another issue with status counts (eg. aura stacks) (ticket #768)
  • Fixed the Resurrection status (ticket #745)
Please check the ticket tracker before reporting problems. If there's already a ticket about your problem, I already know about it, so just be patient. If there's not already a ticket, creating a ticket is the best way to make sure I don't forget to look into the problem!

Showing tanks first

Hi Phanx,

Wondering if there is anyway through Grid or a Grid plugin to always show tanks first for every layout/party size? I seen one plugin called ConfigurableLayouts possibly offered this, but according to its Curse page comments it needs updated for 6.0 and no longer works.

I'm currently using Grid2, but it's sorting features are buggy and only seem to work half the time. I guess Vuhdo can do it, but I find it's interface bloated and confusing. Very hard to find good raid framers that can show tanks first it seems. I find it helps a great deal with healing when raid size gets to 20+.

Re: Showing tanks first

That's on the to-do list, but there were a number of more important actual bugs to fix first. Now that most, if not all, of those are fixed, I will hopefully have time soon to update the layout system for the WOD raid size changes and add a "By Role" layout that will show tanks first, then healers, then DPS.

However, I don't have any plans to add a "show tanks first" option for every layout. If you want to group players by roles, you'll use the (future) By Role layout.

Thanks for the reply. That's even better, was hoping for healers shown after tanks too, but the tanks are a more important feature to me. Hope you can get that worked in soon.

Hi there,

i'm using Grid for quite a while but i have two questions popping up lately.

- is there a way to let the groups "grow" from right to left?
EDIT: sort of solved.

- is there a way to integrate totems? I was fiddling around with AurasExt but honestly i'm a bit lost
with that.

Layout Anchor: top right or bottom right, depending on if you want additional groups to appear above or below the first group.

Group Anchor: same.

I'm not really sure what you mean by this. If you want to show totem buffs on Grid, just add each buff by name under Grid > Auras > Add new buff. If you want to show totems themselves on Grid, that's just not possible, as totems do not have persistent unit tokens and cannot be tracked that way.

Healing totems.
I guess they are not considered as a buff, at least they won't show up, even if i can add an aura
for them and define an indicator.
The heal trace plugin is not working for them too, even if the combat log shows the totem, the sender (me), the recipient and the value. It looks exactly like Healing Rain, which works but on the other hand
is not shown as a gained aura in the SCT

When i activate blizzard scrolling combat text to show gain/lost auras, it shows them.
(Healing Rain works in heal trace but is NOT shown as a gained aura in the SCT. )
Skada/Recount see and counts the heal totems.
What i'm doing wrong?
Honestly i can't see the wood for the trees anymore.
I might stop bothering, only its so convenient to have every information i need on one place instead of cluttered all around the screen.

Healing totems do not apply any buffs, so there is nothing to track with an aura status.

They don't work with GridStatusHealTrace (as noted in the comments on that page) because they are considered independent units, so the healing spells they cast are not flagged as coming from the player.

Skada/Recount attribute totem healing to the player by watching for "object created" events and recording the unique ID values for the summoner (eg. you) and the summoned object (eg. your totem) -- then when they see a "healing done" event with that totem listed as its source, they go look at their records and see that you were the one who created the totem, so they assign the healing to you as well.

I'm still not really clear on what your goal is. Can you elaborate on what exactly you are hoping to see (healing already done? players in range? totem duration?) and why it's important?

Just for my understanding, what you get with COMBAT_LOG_EVENT_UNFILTERED must have less informations then, because i can see everything in the combat log chat window. My totem of whatnot heals unit foobar for xxx nature.
Thats exact the same information i get from healing rain, which is working as Healing Trace.
That possible difference between my combat log and that combat_log_event is what confuses me i guess.

I want to see which units the totem, if any, is currently healing, just like Healing Rain or Chain Heal in
the Heal Trace addon. (would be nice to differ that informations, anyway)
This way i can see if the totem is active at all without looking at a complete different part of the screen.
For example:
I now made a healing rain duration indicator which can increase or decrease in the Grid unit frame,
so i don't have to look near the minimap, find that little buff and the number in it, which would be the third complete different part of my screen i would have to observe during healing.
I see if Healing Rain is active at all. Often i got ground structures or rooms which prevents me from seeing the Healing Rain ground effect.
That indicator is only on my unit frame, because Grid can only see that buff on me of course.
The Heal Trace addon now shows me the units currently healed by that Healing Rain so i could even yell the boys to stay in that funny blue thing if possible to save my mana.

To put it simple. I want to drop my healing totem and want green corners on the affected units, when
it pulses, like i got it from Healing Rain.

Wow lots of words. sigh.

Yes, that's the difference -- according to the combat log and all related events, a totem did the healing, not you. There is no way to know who created the totem based on the CLEU arguments for the SPELL_HEAL event. You have to watch for SPELL_CREATE and/or SPELL_SUMMON events and keep track of who created/summoned what, then refer to that data in future SPELL_HEAL events to find out who created/summoned the totem doing the healing.

You should really be posting this on the GridStatusHealTrace page; I do not have any plans to add anything to the Grid core to show information about past events -- and who was healed by your totem's instant-cast heal is indeed a past event. There's no way to predict who will be healed by the totem on its next pulse.

Alternatively, if what you really want is a status to show you who is in range of your totem then you should posting on the forums to request that someone write such a plugin. I don't have any plans to add that to the Grid core, either.

Morning Phanx,

Thanks for the hard work firstly, have been using grid since its inception but I am having one issue (and havent seen a clear answer).

"Temporary fix for raid difficulty detection: LFR, Normal, and Heroic will use your chosen "Flexible Raid" layout, and Mythic will use your "25 Player Raid" layout. In the near future, all built-in layouts will automatically adjust their size for your current raid, and there will only be one "Raid" layout setting."

Has that^ been implemented yet? I can see that there is only 1 "raid" layout now, but in MC i cant get it to show the entire raid anymore, just my group. Being that it's raid day, i dont want to be stuck with 1 group in a 25 man raid. Not life changing (i play melee), just more of an annoyance.

Thanks again!

No, it has not been implemented yet. Unfortunately I have had very little time to do anything WoW-related, and I've elected to prioritize actually playing the game over rewriting the layout system in Grid.

I'm not sure what you mean by this:
I can see that there is only 1 "raid" layout now
Maybe you were using the unstable beta version from WowAce? If so, you should revert to the current version on this page -- that beta version is not supported, and has actually been removed, since it did not work correctly and I did not have time to fix it immediately.

With the current version on this page you should have the same group type and layout options as you've always had, and should be able to select a 40-player layout for Molten Core.
