Grid  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 8.0.1.1
by: Phanx [More]

Grid has been continued as Plexus by Doadin. Use that instead; Grid has not been updated since 2018 and will not be updated in the future.

Grid is a compact and highly configurable party/raid unit frame addon.
The compact grid of unit frames lets you select a group member quickly, while keeping a good overview of the whole group. It shows as much information as possible without overloading you. It allows you to customize what information you see, and how you see it. It works in both party and raid groups, and supports pets and vehicles.

Want more features? The Grid core tries to include only features which are generally useful for all classes and roles, but makes it easy to add new features with a simple plugin API for developers. Over 75 third-party plugins are already available!

Type “/grid” for options, or right-click the minimap button, DataBroker launcher, or Grid frame tab.

Do not use comments to report bugs or request features. Such comments will be deleted. Use the links above to post a ticket instead!
Language Support
Grid is compatible with all World of Warcraft localizations. It is currently translated into English, Deutsch, Español, Français, Italiano, Português, Русский, 한국어, 简体中文, and 繁體中文.

To add or update translations for any language, enter them on the WowAce project page. New and updated translations will be automatically included in the next version of Grid!

HINT: The WowAce interface for adding translations is quite cumbersome. To make the process easier, you can use the Export function on WowAce, copy the exported data into your text editor, fill in your translations, and then paste them back into WowAce using the Import function.
Credits
Grid was originally conceived and written by Maia and Pastamancer in late 2006. Phanx has been the primary developer since late 2009. Jerry wrote the original pet support code. Mikk designed the icon. jlam added some advanced options for auras. Greltok has helped a lot with bugfixing. Finally, lots of people have contributed translations!

There isn't, but Grid will be updated for Cataclysm (eg. not using Ace2 anymore) before it's released.

The whole point of Grid is to show information as concisely as possible; showing an icon for every debuff on a unit is not consistent with that goal. I can't think of any situation where you need to see more than three pieces of information about a unit's debuffs:
  1. Does this unit have a debuff I can dispel? The actual debuff doesn't matter, only what type of debuff it is, so you don't need an icon, just a colored square or border.
  2. Does this unit have a debuff that prevents me from casting certain spells on them? For example, a priest needs to know who has Weakened Soul, and a paladin needs to know who has Forbearance. Since no class has more than one such debuff, you don't need an icon for this either; a red square or border is sufficient.
  3. Does this unit have a debuff specific to this encounter or instance, that I can respond to? I've successfully tanked, healed, and/or damaged every raid encounter currently in the game, and can't think of a single boss encounter where you need to see more than one "raid debuff" at a time.
As for individiaul "raid debuffs", you can either manually add the specific ones your class cares about — eg. if you're playing a rogue, you have nothing to do in response to someone else having Mark of the Fallen Champion, so you don't need to see it; while if you're playing a priest, you don't need to see an icon for Fiery Combustion, since it'll already show up on your "dispellable debuff" indicator — or you can install the GridStatusRaidDebuff plugin to get a precompilied list of every raid encounter debuff in the game.

I am annoyed over that you can only show one debuff icon. Am I supposed to manually import all the debuffs different bosses do such as Incinerate Flesh, Mark of the fallen champion etc?

What do you mean? There is always a frame for yourself shown in Grid, unless you are using some third-party code (such as a plugin) that intentionally disables this functionality. If you want your name shown separately somewhere else, your post didn't explain it very well. Maybe you could post a screenshot?

how to set my own name inside grids frame?

I used vuhdo in the past and got use to having my own name in the vuhdo frames. But in grid, I looked all over the config settings and could not find any option to show my own name in grid frames so I can heal myself when Im in a raid or party. When Im solo, my name does appear though.

Please stop posting your hardware specs, video settings, etc, unless you are going to pack up your machine and mail it to me.

I've been using Grid for the last four years. In that time, I have, on numerous characters, joined raid groups, left raid groups, been in raid groups when other people joined or left or were moved between subgroups, been in raids and battlegrounds of all sizes from 10-man to 40-man, been in Wintergrasp, been in 40-man world PvP raids, used OpenGL mode, used DirectX mode, played in fullscreen mode, played in windowed mode, played in maximized windowed mode, and played with probably hundreds of unique combinations of video settings, and I have never once experienced any kind of freeze or frame lag caused by raid group changes.

Plus, all of you guys posting hardware specs have different hardware, and most of you have better hardware than I do, which suggests to me that the issue is not hardware-related. However, if it is a hardware issue, then there is probably nothing I can do to fix it, as addons have no access to or even awareness of your hardware.

If you are a programmer and can look through the code and offer meaningful suggestions on which code paths may be causing the problem, feel free to post. Otherwise, I am aware that there is an issue, and would much rather not keep getting comment notification emails for useless reposts of the same information that doesn't help in the slightest.

Any further comments posted on this page about this issue (especially useless ones) will be deleted. If you are interested in this issue, I suggest you subscribe to the ticket on wowace.com. If you have useful information to add, post a comment on the ticket:

I have the exact same issue as Atre. I also only noticed it since a recent patch. Pretty sure it started happening at the same time blizzard's patch was causing memory requests greater than 4gig.

GTX 285 (driver 8.17.11.9713 dated 3/15/10)
Core2 Duo E8500
Win7 x64

I play with 24x24 bit color w/ 1x multisampling no shadows and everything else at max.

It's a pretty horrible bug when trying to play WG, but otherwise just annoying.

It's not actually the addon itself, it's something to do with my hardware (I think) and multisampling. Sometimes when there are overlapping textures or edges that aren't pixel perfect, the pixels on the edge will flash. It's like fuzzy border syndrome on crack with disco lights or something.

http://i26.tinypic.com/2uot8j4.jpg That's what happens, using PitBull to demonstrate.

Anyways, could you point me in the right direction? Not too sure where to start with this although I have a feeling it may have something to do with the white16x16.tga

Edit: Resized the .tga and now it appears to be fine! Will test this for a while.

You would need to edit the addon's code yourself. That gap between the health bar and the border has been there since the addon was written nearly four years ago, and I have no plans to remove it or add any options relating to it.

What kind of problems is this causing for you? o_O

Grid Border

Hello, Is there a way to hide the 1px border/background (as shown here http://s.wowinterface.com/preview/pvw34010.jpg) or resize it so it won't show unless the health bar depletes? It's causing some problems for me right now and I can't have it shown at all. I've found no immediate way to do this so any sort of fix will do if it's possible!

Thanks.

I understand. Just wanted to point out it wasn't likely to do with hardware. I commented the same function linked in the ticket below, ran a couple of BGs and did not notice the stuttering. I have asked around and cannot find anyone personally or in game that has the same experience either. I am going to look into it more this weekend but thanks for noting the problem.

  • Fixed a bug causing black frames when range checking was enabled for the Unit Health status.

I'll try to put in some time investigating the freezing on group changes in the next week or so.

Yeah, as I've said before, neither myself nor either of the people who live with me who play WoW have ever seen this happen, and we've all been playing and raiding on a regular basis for the last 5 years. So, unfortunately there is no way to "easily reproduce" the issue by people who aren't experiencing it, and unless you're going to send me your machine or buy me a clone of your machine, posting your hardware specs doesn't really help either.
