Grid  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 8.0.1.1
by: Phanx [More]

Grid has been continued as Plexus by Doadin. Use that instead; Grid has not been updated since 2018 and will not be updated in the future.

Grid is a compact and highly configurable party/raid unit frame addon.
The compact grid of unit frames lets you select a group member quickly, while keeping a good overview of the whole group. It shows as much information as possible without overloading you. It allows you to customize what information you see, and how you see it. It works in both party and raid groups, and supports pets and vehicles.

Want more features? The Grid core tries to include only features which are generally useful for all classes and roles, but makes it easy to add new features with a simple plugin API for developers. Over 75 third-party plugins are already available!

Type “/grid” for options, or right-click the minimap button, DataBroker launcher, or Grid frame tab.

Language Support
Grid is compatible with all World of Warcraft localizations. It is currently translated into English, Deutsch, Español, Français, Italiano, Português, Русский, 한국어, 简体中文, and 繁體中文.

To add or update translations for any language, enter them on the WowAce project page. New and updated translations will be automatically included in the next version of Grid!

HINT: The WowAce interface for adding translations is quite cumbersome. To make the process easier, you can use the Export function on WowAce, copy the exported data into your text editor, fill in your translations, and then paste them back into WowAce using the Import function.
Credits
Grid was originally conceived and written by Maia and Pastamancer in late 2006. Phanx has been the primary developer since late 2009. Jerry wrote the original pet support code. Mikk designed the icon. jlam added some advanced options for auras. Greltok has helped a lot with bugfixing. Finally, lots of people have contributed translations!

I have been having an issue similar to posters prior. Grid is causing a graphics stutter when a player leaves or joins the raid group. It also seems to occur when a player changes state from ghost/dead/alive. A good example to easily reproduce is when a wipe occurs and players are zoning back into the instance to recover.
Across two hardware platforms C2D -> i7930 8800gt -> 460GTX
Multiple Grid config wipes

The only fix is for me to /grid standby. This stutter cropped up for me after 3.3.5 was deployed to live.

Frame lockup

Well im having the same problem with grid locking up for a 0.5seconds when someone joins/leaves the raid or a pet gets added etc.

Tried nuking the config files, running it with just grid, removing wtf, nothing seems to work.

Either way, if you want someone to try and whack a mole with drop me a PM.

Every battleground I've ever been in that's organized at all divides people up by groups ("group 1 go here, group 5 go there, etc") and not by class ("druids go here, shamans go there"), so having the 40-man layout sorted by group makes more sense, since people in your group will generally be near you, while people of the same class may be on opposite ends of the map.

Why dont you add this by default to grid?

Not by default, but you could easily change the "25 by Class" layout to support 40 players; just open GridLayoutLayouts.lua, find the layout (it's near the bottom) and add groups 6, 7, and 8 to the groupFilter, and change the maxColumns to 8. You could also copy/paste it before making the changes, to make a separate 40-man layout if you wanted to keep the 25-man layout.

Ok

Since you're answering quick, is there a way to sort 40man BGs/raids by class?

Thanks.

Unfortunately that doesn't really help me, as I have no way to duplicate your hardware and software configuration, and I have had no luck reproducing the issue myself even with default Grid settings and no other addons enabled, on any of the three machines I have access to.

The person who submitted the ticket I linked on WowAce had some ideas about which parts of the code were causing the issue; you might try commenting out the lines mentioned there and seeing if that does anything for you.

I ever find myself without a dozen other things to do, I may see if I can find someone who can reproduce it and wants to spend some time with me playing whack-a-mole in the dark trying to locate the cause, but that isn't really something that couldn't be done by anyone with Notepad and a hyphen key, and doesn't even guarantee a timely solution, or even any solution.

Hello Phanx,

I tried to isolate the problem and here's what I found out:

- I disabled ALL other addons, leaving only "Grid" enabled.
- I'm running WoW on a i7-930 processor, Geforce GTX470, and with a pretty clean Windows 7 system using latest Geforce video drivers as of August 1st.
- I reseted Grid settings to default.

Problem still happens, but the freeze duration when someone enters/leaves raid/party is not 0.5 sec as I thought, it is something like 0.3 secs.

Maybe you could write a debug version of the addon to help us find out where in the code the problem is?

Thank you.

I've gotten similar reports from a few other people as well, but unfortunately I have never experienced this issue in the 3+ years I've used Grid, and haven't been able to reproduce it with saved settings files from the people who are experiencing the issue.

There's a ticket open over on the WowAce ticket tracker that you may want to keep an eye on:

http://www.wowace.com/addons/grid/ti...frame-lockups/

In the meantime, you could try resetting your Grid settings, and see if that helps.

Hello,

Every time some players quits/enters the raid, Grid causes game to freeze for about half a second to update Grid's window..

I'm not using any external Grid addons...

Any ideas why this is happening? Is this only happening with me? Please help.
Thank you.

Probably the same "reason" the inspect and follow distances are "around" 11 and 28 yards. I'd imagine the development process at Blizzard went something like this:

Dev #1: Hey guys, I'm writing the range check function, should it be 35 yards or 40 yards?
Other Devs: Uhh... I don't know. No idea. Good question.
Dev #2: Let's roll a D6!
Everyone Else: Okay!
Dev #2 rolls a 3 (1-6).
Dev #2: So, 35 + 3 = 38, sound good?
Other Devs: Sure, whatever.
Dev #1: Okay, cool.
Dev #1 implements the range function with a 38-yard check.

Oh, my bad. Thought it said on wowprogramming.com it's 40 yards, but I realise now it does say "around" 40 yards. Wonder why it's not exactly 40...

Edit: And also my bad for not realising you already used it. Searched for it, but searched in the wrong file.

UnitInRange isn't 40 yards; it's more like 38, and it's what's used by the default 38-yard range check. However, if your class has a friendly spell with a 40-yard range (such as a healing spell), that will be used instead, and you won't be given a choice between 38 and 40 yards. But, if you're on a class that doesn't have a 40-yard spell, it will fall back on UnitInRange and give you a 38-yard range check.

The range check module is "smart", in that you can enable the 38-yard check on your rogue, and the 40-yard check on your paladin, and when you're on your paladin, Grid will only check the 40-yard range, not both ranges.

Thanks, I found a suitable plugin.

Another thing; any plans to add a range check that uses the 40 yard UnitInRange function, that any class could use? Or are you (or anyone else) aware of such a plugin?
