MetaMap  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 20100-2
by: MetaHawk [More]

Move the map anywhere on the screen.
Adjust the opacity of the window & maps.
Saved sets for toggling between 2 map modes.
Allows full player movement, messaging, etc. with map open.
Adds coords to the main map and the Minimap
Adds Instance maps which open to the correct instance you enter.
Default data included for all bosses & locations etc.
User editable notes for all maps, including instance maps.
NPC/Mob database collectable by mouseover or keypress.
Toggling on/off display of unexplored areas of the map.
Boss Loot Tables displays all the loot dropped by bosses, and more.
Waypoint system to guide you to any set point.
Complete Quest logger with optional history database.
Tracker module for gathering Herbs/Ores etc.
NoteBook module for additional notes, linked to Tooltips.
Inbuilt Import and export facilities for various data formats.
Inbuilt Backup and Restore facilities.
Button on Minimap to open or close the World Map or display MetaMap options.
Key bindings for various MetaMap functions.
Full support for Titan Bar.

INSTALLATION:
=============
Extract ALL folders in the archive to the Interface\AddOns\ location. If you wish the Instance maps to be populated with default information, then on first installation you will need to select 'Extended Options' from the MetaMap menu.
Select the 'Database' tab, then click 'Load Imports'. This will enable the default import button, 'Import Instance Notes'. Click on the 'Import' button to import the data.

ISSUES/COMPATIBILITIES:
=======================
Some addons may reset the map to gather location data.
If your map continuously jumps back to your current location when selecting another map,
it will be due to another addon resetting it. In most cases the authors have made changes
to correct this so, download the latest version of any conflicting addon.

Added frame level adjust for TitanBar button. Works correctly again now.

Ok, here we go...

My mistake. It seemed to happen as I reported it, but that was due to circumstances.
This is what happens:
Entries in the knownledge base are not recorded until the knowledge base has been opened since the UI was initialized. Whether updates are shown or not has nothing to do with it.

Edit: Removing LoadOnDemand fixes the problem, not surprisingly.

Of course I understand it's not intended to do that, but that's what it's doing. Bugs do exist, you know...

Yes, it was loaded.
I did some more testing - it seems that if the option is set when the UI is loaded and toggled off later then it registers just fine, but if you turn it off and reload the UI, then no updates are made until the option is toggled again. -- Er, that worked twice, but not the third test. Investigating further...

Another mod is interfering with the WorldMap. Can't remember offhand which one it was but, disable, then enable each mod in turn to find the culprit.

Re: Quest Log

I've been using MetaMap for a long time - it's a great addon - but just yesterday imported my QuestHistory database. I have ~2600 entries spread over 4 servers. The entries were imported minus ~350 that it said it didn't have enough data for. I then logged in every toon once.

What I've observed after playing a new toon is that I can only get MetaMap to show the active quests for the new toon (with the options set to one toon, and logged - nothing else ticked). Checking All Quests loads all 2600 from all servers and unchecking goes back to just the active ones for the toon. Some of the old toons act this way but not all.

For instance for one toon the Blizzard quest log has 19 active quests but MetMap shows only 3 (2 History and 1 Active). QuestHistory for this toon is in agreement with the Blizzard Quest Log.

On another toon the Blizzard log lists 18 active, QuestHistory lists 50 of 79 complete (some were abandoned and some suffered from an old QH bug where the completion flag didn't register), MetaMap lists 4 Active of 114 but the window only shows 4 active and 16 History!

Am I doing something wrong or did the data just import incorrectly?
How do I show the History as well as Active for a toon that was created after I started using MetaMapQST ? Unckecking Active doesn't work.

Thanks,

Nahkohe
LOL - it does take a bit of getting used to but, once you get to grips with it, it does become quite logical.

Main thing to remember, is that it normally shows only quests related to the map selected. For example, having quests in Westfall will only display when the map of Westfall is selected. Using the 'Show all for map' option will then show ALL quests for ALL chars for Westfall. Zooming out to the Eastern Kingdoms continent will do the same, except it will show the quests for all zones in that continent. Zooming out again to Azeroth, will show the quests for all zones in both continents. And zooming out yet again to The Cosmos will show the quests related to all zones in all 3 continents.

The 'Show all Quests' option will show ALL quests for ALL chars, regardless of map selected. The quest numbers displayed are also related to what's displayed of course.

Thanks for a great mod.
What you see on screen, are in fact scaled down components of the WorldMap. Unfortunately, when Blizzard changed the scaling routines sometime back, it was no longer possible to save positions accurately for scaled down components.

Re: MetaMapQST Duplicate Quests

Howdy. I have many duplicate, active (and some duplicate active + history) quests. Is there something you can add to prune those? It may have been a temporary clash with another addon. Anyway, I would rather have duplicates purged than wiping the whole quest database.

i've tried removing individual duplicates but it either tells me that I can't remove someone else's quest, or it must first *abandon* the quest and then a second removal will remove the quest. Ugh.

Please advise. Thanks for the mod!

Cheers.
Indeed, due to the way the log works, only the current char can manipulate his active quests. This is because the WoW questlog is only available for the current char that's logged in so, that's the only time a comparison can be made.

MetaMapQST does a verification process on startup so, logging in with each char should sort any orphaned quests, and move them to the history part of the database, from where they can be removed by any char.

In your particular case, it does sound like something has screwed the data a bit, and caused duplicates. It won't get rid of those unfortunately, as they would show as valid quests on query. However, each duplicate will get eliminated automatically as the quest is completed. Only other way is to remove the QuestLog section from the MetaMapQST.lua data file in the SavedVariables folder. Each active quest will then be automatically recreated as each char logs in. However, any NPC data gained would be lost so, I would suggest sticking it out and letting it remove the dupes on quest completion.
