Note: This AddOn is currently retired. I am unlikely to update it or add support for new enchantments/weapons. Blizzard has made changes so that when you swap an item, the internal cooldown on any of its procs/buffs is reset. This means swapping in Val'anyr or a weapon with Black Magic wouldn't work; you can't avoid their internal cooldowns. Also, currently intellect is the main regen stat, and every weapon has intellect, so there is not a compelling reason to swap weapons based on mana level. This, combined with Blizzard's dislike for weapon/relic hot-swapping, means CasterWeaponSwapper is retired.

This AddOn swaps weapons based on your current amount of mana, to maximize mana efficiency. With this mod, you can start fights with a high intellect staff equipped, then switch to a +damage/healing weapon for most of the fight, and then switch to a spirit-heavy staff when your mana is low.

This AddOn is unique because is does this automatically, without interrupting you with a weapon-swap cooldown. Normally when you change weapons in combat, it cancels current spellcasts and causes a 1.5-second global cooldown. CasterWeaponSwapper gets around this by swapping weapons right after you cast instant spells, so the cooldowns overlap and you don't experience any interruption. It also will let you know when it wants to swap weapons with an (optional) popup, so you can cast an instant spell or trigger the swap manually. When out of combat, there is an option to swap weapons whenever necessary, since there is no swap cooldown.

The AddOn supports 1- and 2-handed weapons, off hand items, and wands/librams/idols/totems. You can set up weapon sets for high mana, casting, low mana, and sets for Druid forms. The casting set will only be used when in combat. The Druid sets will be used while you are shapeshifted into a bear or cat. There is also an option to use the low-mana set while you have spirit boosting buffs (Spirit Tap, Evocation, Innervate, and Aura of the Blue Dragon), and an option to swap between a secondary casting set to proc the Spellsurge enchant each time it is available in combat.

This AddOn will work in any language version of WoW. The user controls are in English.

To use the AddOn, type /cws or /casterweaponswapper to open the config window.
* You can set up the weapon sets by dragging and dropping weapons to the icons.
* You can pick the mana threshold values used for swapping via the sliders.
* You can turn the mod, and some features, on and off via the checkboxes.
* Settings are saved for each character that uses the AddOn.

Once set up, you can type /cws on|off|toggle to turn weapon swapping on or off. You can also trigger a manual check for any desired swaps via /cws swap, or by using the keybinding available in the keybindings menu.

** In combat, the mod now only swaps after instant-cast and channeled spells, which are not interrupted.
** When the mod needs to swap in combat, if it doesn't see an instant-cast spell, it will pop up a little notifier, so you can trigger the swap (and the resulting cooldown) when it's most convenient.
** To trigger the swap, you can cast any instant-cast or channeled spell, or click the button on the notifier, or use a macro that says "/cws swap", or use the keybinding available in the keybindings menu.
** The popup notifier can be moved anywhere on the screen by dragging it.
** This is a quick fix version, which I hope to refine over time. I know the popup may be a little annoying for now and that the mod may still interrupt casts out of combat; I plan to work on this.

CasterWeaponSwapper 2.3 (WoW 2.4.2):
* Updated localization code to use GetSpellInfo() and GetItemInfo(). This should allow the mod to work in all locales without further translation!
* Added Divine Illumination to the list of spells not to swap after, since it does not cause a global cooldown.
* Fixed a bug in Spellsurge detection that occurred in special cases.

CasterWeaponSwapper 2.2 (WoW 2.4.1):
* Updated code to not swap weapons when casting non-cooldown spells, like Inner Focus, Divine Favor, and Natures's Swiftness. This should avoid unnecessary cooldowns. For a full spell list, look in localization.lua.

It is possible to differentiate Spellsurge that procs off other party members by watching the combat log.
Their Spellsurge proc would say: "You gain 10 Mana from Someone's Spellsurge."
While your Spellsurge proc would say: "You gain 10 Mana from Spellsurge."

This combat message would not appear if you have full mana, but during combat it's unlikely you'll have full mana and be doing something that does not use any mana that would proc it; like making a bandage, enchanting an item, etc. It is also possible to have a tick of <10 mana, but again it's unlikely you'll be close to full mana while in combat and it procs off one of your spell casts. In any case we can still take it into account with the following...

Suggested changes:

CWS_LOCALE.gainSpellsurge = "You gain %d+ Mana from Spellsurge."

if (string.find(arg1,CWS_LOCALE.gainSpellsurge) and GetTime() >= timeSpellsurgeCooldownEnds and


edit: You can also detect if your Spellsurge has proc via other members of your group by using the following pattern instead (also detects your procs via you as well): "%S+ gains? %d+ Mana from Spellsurge."

or technically for enUS, it can be simplified to: "Mana from Spellsurge.", not sure if it's possible for other languages.

Lastly, it takes about 1 second from "You gain Spellsurge." to the first mana tick of Spellsurge; hence you may wish to take that into account and adjust SPELLSURGECOOLDOWN accordingly.

Re: Leaving druid forms.

Someone made a similar suggestion before, and it is something I'd like to add. I'll bump it to the top of the TODO list. I don't play a druid myself so I don't always see these things firsthand, so I appreciate the feedback.

Leaving druid forms.

First of all, I'd like to thank you for this great mod. This mod really helps me out tons when I'm on healing duty with my druid. This mod really shows some great potentional for my arena team, as I play feral, because it will maximize my performance in all my forms.
I found out a flaw though.

Whenever I leave my form back to caster form, the mod swaps to my healing set. This causes a global cooldown. Normally, if you get out of a feral form, you can instantly start throwing out heals. The global cooldown however, prevents this. I'd REALLY LOVE an option for the mod to wait to switch to my healing set, untill I start casting a heal or untill I enter a global cooldown due to using an instant cast spell. This way, my next healing spell will benefit from the extra +healing from my healing weapon while I remain able to start throwing out heals instantly after I leave a feral form.

Please keep up the good work, and hopefully it will be possible to add this feature

Yeah, right now the casting set is not used out of combat (the theory is that you don't need +damage or healing out of combat).

But I am thinking of adding checkboxes for using the high and low mana sets, for those who only want to use the low mana set for evocation etc... I just have to think about how it would work.

I have set the sliders to 100% and 0% so that I am always using the casting set. Also, I have unchecked "swap whenever needed out of combat"

one question: every time i leave I leave combat and cast a spell or drink, etc, the mod swtiches me to my spirit weapons. This even incudes my "pull" cast on enemies while soloing (since at that moment I will be out of combat).

I would rather not have the mod switch to spirit gear when out of combat. I like it only during evocation. How can I stop this out of combat switch?

I am currently talking with the coder who posted ArcanistsWeaponSwapper on Curse. He posted a modified version of the mod, for mages. I might add in some of the features he put together too.

this is great!
I am using this mod to auto-switch my Blade of Wizardry out after a proc. I just had to modify the cooldown length and buff string in the lua.

perhaps you can take a look at the version of this mod that someone posted on curse... there may be something you can incorporate into yours.

Currently the mod finds items in your bags by name, so if you have items with the same name it can indeed get confused. Finding items by ID or some unique identifier is on my list. Sorry for the inconvenience in the meantime.

Spellsurge

I've read the below posts and gotten the Spellsurge swapping to work by moving the sliders to 100% and 0% (I'm using this mod for Spellsurge functionality only.) However, the weapon is not switching properly even though the swap message is printed. I am guessing (since I had problems adding it to the mod) that this is because I have two identical MH weapons:

Cast weapon: Gavel of Unearthed Secrets (+40 Spell Damage)
Spellsurge weapon: Gavel of Unearthed Secrets (Spellsurge Enchant).

If I start combat with my +40 Gavel equipped, no switching occurs (though message is printed). If I start combat with a different, 3rd weapon equipped, sometimes it swaps to the +40 gavel and sometimes to Spellsurge gavel... I played with the interface a little and that may be why I got different results in second case.

Is there a way I can fix this, or is this just how the addon is programmed? I would love to see this functionality in a future version if possible. I know some of my other addons (Item Rack for example) can see the difference between the two weapons, so it seems a possiblity.

I see where you're coming from. I think my healer friend is using Spellsurge differently though. He wants Spellsurge to proc as many times as possible in a fight, even if his mana is nearly full, because Spellsurge gives the DPS members of his party mana also, and DPS classes are almost never at full mana. But it sounds like he can work around it by following Zwiebelchen's advice.

CWS does only activates the spellsurge events during the use of the "casting set". You can work around this by setting the "high to casting" and "casting to high" treshold to 100% and the "low to casting" and "casting to low" to 0%. Also be sure to set low mana, high int and casting set all with your +heal weapon.

Hmm my Shaman friend is trying out the Spellsurge feature. He can't get it to work. He placed the Spellsurge weapon in the Spellsurge set, another weapon in the Casting set. He starts combat with his Casting weapon, and nothing happens. He manually equips his Spellsurge weapon, and it eventually procs, and still nothing happens after the proc.

His client is enUS.

EDIT3: Hmm whether it swaps or not seems to have something to do with the caster's mana pool. If his mana is low it swaps all the time. Is there some hidden condition where CWS doesn't swap when caster's mana is above a certain %? He thinks CWS doesn't swap if his mana is >95%.

I really like the addon, especially the spellsurge event.

Concerning localization:

In the german client it says:
Ihr bekommt 'Zauberflut'.


If you do not want to wait for the localization, just open "CasterWeaponSwapper.lua" with windows editor and search for the string "you gain spellsurge" and replace it with the matching expression in your combat log. It should work fine then.



Well ... I experienced a problem concerning spellsurge with multiple spellsurge enchants in one group:
If the Addon switches to the spellsurge set and someone else proccs the enchant (means your own global cooldown was not activated and you get the "passive" buff from someone else), the addon considers this buff as your own and switches back to the caster set.

Hmm, interesting. I see the value in such a change. I will investigate adding a version of it to the main code.
