Bongos2  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 1.10.1
by: Tuller [More]

I have written a new action bar addon, called Dominos, and am no longer supporting this one. Please feel free to try it out, along with Trinity Bars, and Bartender 3

Bongos is an action bar replacement designed to be both low memory, and easy to setup. It is not as feature rich as other bar mods, but should include the features most commonly used.

Version History
A Brief Guide

Included Addons

  • Bongos2: The core addon.
  • Bongos2 ActionBar: Breaks up the main action bar into movable parts
  • Bongos2 Stats: A display for latency, framerate, and memory usage
  • Bongos2 RollBar: Makes the frame for rolling on items movable
  • Bongos2 CastBar: A movable casting bar, with the ability to show cast time
  • Bongos2 XP: A movable experience bar
  • Bongos2 MapBar: A movable mapbar
  • Bongos2 Options: A dynamically loaded options menu for Bongos

Features
  • Every Bongos bar can be moved, hidden, and have its scale and opacity altered
  • Sticky bars - Each bar can be anchored to any other bar
  • 120 action buttons, which can be setup in any number of bars
  • Both macro and key binding text on action buttons can be hidden
  • Customizable stance transitions for each bar

General Settings
  • To bring up the options menu: type /bongos menu
  • To unlock bars: uncheck the lock bars option in the main options menu
  • To hide or show a bar: unlock bars, then middle click or shift right click it
  • To move a bar: unlock bars, and then click and drag it with the left mouse button
  • To bring up a bar's configuration menu, right click it

Key Bindings
  • Bindings for the Bongos action bar should only be done via the bindings menu in Bongos
  • To bind keys, open the main options panel, and select the bindings option. Hover over a button, then press a key to bind it to that button

Action Bar Settings
  • Accessing general action bar options: open up the main options window (/bongos menu) and select the action bars panel
  • Adjusting the layout of a given bar: unlock bars and right click the bar you want to adjust to bring up its configuration menu
  • Moving buttons: Hold down the key for moving buttons (shift by default), and drag a button. Alternatively, unlock button positions by shift right clicking the mini map button, or unchecking the option in the main options menu
  • Making a bar bigger: You can increase the maximum size of a given bar by reducing the number of action bars. To do so, adjust the action bars slider on the action bar panel of the main options menu. This option will reset the settings of your action bars

Stances and Paging
  • Stances and paging are configured via a bar's right click menu. With bars unlocked, right click the bar you want to change,

Slash Commands
  • All commands start with either /bongos, /bob, or /bgs
  • <barList> can have a possible value of an actionbar number, menu, bags, pet. class, or all
  • You can also specify a group or range of bars, the command /bo scale 1-3 class 1.2 will scale action bars 1 2 3, and the class bar to 120% of their normal size.
  • /bongos - Shows the options menu, if present
  • /bongos lock - Toggles locking bars positions
  • /bongos show <barList> - Shows <barList>
  • /bongos hide <barList> - Hides <barList>
  • /bongos toggle <barList> - Toggles <barList>
  • /bongos scale <barList> <scale> - Sets the scale of <barList> to <scale>
  • /bongos setalpha <barList> <opacity> - Sets the opacity of <barList> to <opacity>
  • /bongos set <profile> - Sets the current character to use <profile>
  • /bongos copy <profile> - Copies all settings from <profile>
  • /bongos delete <profile> - Deletes <profile>
  • /bongos reset - Loads default settings
  • /bongos version - Displays what version of bongos you're running
  • /keybound - Toggles keybinding mode

Was able to make key bindings work by binding then restarting WoW.

However at times the bindings fail to work, but clicking the button still activates the command. Then work again upon restart. I can't reproduce the bug as it seems random.

Pet bar doesnt show cooldowns.

I'm also unable to load profiles. It seems like the only part of a profile that's actually saving itself is the "lock button position" setting

I was also experiencing a weird bug with docked action bars. They were not retaining the settings for scale and size of their parent but were inheriting their own values. I had to undock them and make them all the same in order to get them to work properly.

Edit: Just deleted all my saved variables pertaining to Bongos as well as manually cleaned out the bindings-cache.wtf file and now keybindings don't work at all. Very sad panda indeed, really wanted to play a bit today. Will see if I can revert to an older version of Bongos and redo all my layouts.

OK, found what seems to be causing the problem. After a reloadui my keybindings done through Bongos are recognized, but as soon as I enter the "Bindings" tab the keys all become "frozen" and don't respond to bindings. A reloadui fixes it again so it's gotta be something to do with an event associated with the Bindings pane.

Profiles from before the 7.1.x versions should not work, profiles saved after should, as I've been able to load them.

Small error with latest version

The keybindings on Bar1 & Bar7 of my rogue don't contain all of the keybinding text.

My keys on bar1 are bound to the number pad keys. Text on button1 is N1, N2.. until button7 then the N is dropped. The N is not displayed on buttons7-12. Same on Bar7 once stealthed.

NOTE: I completely deleted all my Bongos files from Saved Variables before trying 7.1.8b.

1. Again, as with 7.1.8, when I load a profile I created, Bar 1 (and all bars that were either attached to it, or on pages of it or bars attached to it) is moved to the bottom of the screen. It's state is reset to a horizontal row, with spacing of 2, and 100% scale. All bars that were attached to it or pages of it, become themselves pages of it.

To boot, when I try to recreate my original layout, I can no longer dock any bars as pages.

2. There's definitely an issue with keybinding. I can bind some keys properly, but others simply activate commands when I am in binding mode and hover over the button and press the key. I've checked, and I do not have any other functions bound to the keys I'm trying to bind.

3. Tooltips do not work properly at all. I use LitheTooltipDoctor to move my tooltip, yet with Bongos, the tooltips always appear next to the button I'm pointing to.

There seems to be an issue with how WoW 2.0.3 handles tooltips, as I've run into tooltip problems with many of my addons.

Unhappy Outdated

Pretty straight forward.

As of todays update (01/09/07) this mod is outdated and will not load.
I've tried version 718 & 718b both of which were uploaded yesterday (01/08/07) Neither will load.

Hopefully this can/will be fixed soon, as this is the only hotbar MOD that is worth looking at.

Thanks,
V

I'm another who's having tooltip problems. In my case I use Tooltip Wrangler. Its particularly annoying to me since I'm having tooltips obscure items that I'm trying to use to line my bars up with where I want to place them.

Profiles also aren't working for me. The special bars like bags, keys, and stats all seem to load just fine but the action bars don't.

It also doesn't seem to be saving bar positions properly. I'll get my bars set up like I want them to be, log out, log back in, and many of them will have moved slightly out of position. This seems to be more of a problem when sticky bars aren't enabled.

Finally, what are the chances of getting a non-justified sticky bar option? I like putting my class bar about a third of the way over on the left side of my main action bar bank. Right now this means turning on sticky bars while I set up the main action bar bank, then turning off sticky bars while I position the class bar. It would be helpful if I could just toggle an option for the class bar to be non-justified and then have it snap to the action bars where I want it.

The mapbar module is not saving the show/hide setting for the world map button. I tried enabling it, but if I log out and back in, the button will be disabled again. Also, the bongos minimap button show/hide setting will not save. I can disable it, log out, then log back in and it'll show up again. Looking at bongos options even shows the minimap button as disabled(not check-marked) but it still shows up regardless.

Oh, one other thing. Is there supposed to be a bongos_mapbar.lua file? I noticed there's only a bongos.lua and bongos_actionbar.lua file in the character folder.

2.0.3

I know its still early-ish into Patch Day ... and I know people have real lives and jobs and whatnot, but I just wanted to post a quick report on some 2.0.3 Bongos issues:

My keybinds won't ... well ... bind. I love the "MouseOver then click/type/etc" way to bind keys now, but for some reason this newest version doesn't seem to be saving my settings. The UI is acting almost as if the default Blizz keybindings were still being queried first, or not overwritten at all.

anywho, thanks for this awesome addon, as well as your awesome support, T!!

Will that effect saved profile at all (as far as having to rebuild them)? I've cleared my Saved Variables for Bongos, so I'll be starting from scratch. Just want to make sure I'm not wasting time by doing so.

The main reason I have not implemented such a system is because I want to maintain a bit of parity with the default UI, and also because when I implemented the system myself, I did not think of treating buttons as a pool, and treated them as a stream instead.
Does that mean it's going to stay as-is for the forseeable future?

I can understand that it could be a significant change from a development standpoint. As for maintaining parity with the default UI: if the default is 10 bars of 12, then there's parity off the bat while people can tweak to their preference.

Also: Any chance of the ability to copy settings from one bar to the next?

I have all my bars set to 90% scale with minimum spacing. Most of my bars are also in a single-column layout. It'd be great if I didn't have to go through 60 bars and set those settings manually for each.

Thanks again!
