RETIREMENT

!!! BIG AUTHOR ANOUNCEMENT !!!

Well folks,

That's all from me - I'm giving up WoW and therefore won't be able to maintain my AddOns from now on. I'm starting a new job, and its just time to move on.

Thanks for all the support, and I hope you still find these AddOns continue to work for some time to come - otherwise you'll just have to find some other poor sucker to maintain 'em

If anyone is interested the following AddOns will be orphaned :
NotesUNeed,
AlphaMap (Fan's Update),
PartySpotter,
MozzFullWorldMap (Fan's Update),
MapNotes (Fan's Update),
WorldBossStrategyGuide,
Neptunia's MapNotes Skin

I'll be around for a few more days, but then you're on your own.

SLATFATF,

Telic

Changes in v2.90.20003 from v2.81.20003

Changes in v2.90.20003 from v2.81.20003
-------------------------------------------------

- BIG CHANGE TO FUNCTIONALITY : PLEASE READ !!!
The Mouse Interaction Mode which allows you to Zoom in and out of world map Zones NOW USES THE <ALT> KEY.
NOT THE <CONTROL> KEY.

- As Above, to move the on map Coordinates, you now need to use the <ALT> Key, and NOT the <Control> Key.

- IMPORTANT CHANGE TO MapNotes(Fan's Update) COMPATIBILITY
You can now Create and Edit MapNotes on world zone maps in AlphaMap, using the standard <Control>-Right Click method of interaction.
You should now also see Party Notes, and Thottbott Markers on the AlphaMap world zone maps.
You can create a Party Note on the AlphaMap, but will need to hold down both the <Control> & <Shift> keys.
This functionality requires the latest version of "MapNotes (Fan's Update)". (v3.40.20003 or later)
NOTE: As a Result of this change the AlphaMap Option to hide MapNotes Tooltips no longer works when using MapNotes (Fan's Update); And only applies to the tooltip's displayed when using CTMapMod or MetaMap

- USEFUL NEW INSTANCE/BATTLEGROUND FEATURES
Zoom in to see Instance Maps in more detail by <Alt>-Left Clicking on them. (2x zoom)
Zoom out again by <Alt>-Right Clicking
Useful for quick checking areas in detail without having to change the scale of the map frame itself, or focusing in more detail on particular dungeon wings.
NOTE : Must have Mouse Interaction Mode enabled. (Enabled by default).
NOTE : Can't currently zoom in on maps created from in-game Minimap Textures such as World Boss maps (these are already zoomed minimap textures, so I didn't dedicate any time to it

- Can now scale the AlphaMap Notes on Instance/BattleGround/WorldBoss Maps to suit your needs
For example - open up an Instance Map;
Open up the AlphaMap Options;
Click on the Second Tab;
You will see the options have been slightly re-organised, and there is now a slider on the left hand side allowing you to change the size of the on-map icons
AlphaMap key symbols are not affected by this re-sizing, but are now slightly larger by default.

- NEW BETA TEST LEVEL FEATURE
Can now Zoom in on WorldMap areas using the normal <Alt>-Click method - basically this means you can zoom even further on world map zones and see individual "discoverable areas" as a single enlarged area of the map - at the moment, I'm afraid no map icons will be displayed on 'zoomed' map areas.
Sometimes this feature is useful for quickly seeing part of the map more clearly, sometimes not so useful
Let me know what you think.

- BATTLEGROUND CHANGE
BattleGround Tooltips will now show the Amount of time until a Graveyard or Objective is Captured by a Faction.
Only Roughly accurate to within a couple of seconds, and only calculated when you mouse over the objective to keep performance impact to a minimum, but a good guide-line none the less.

- fix to make sure automatically opened AlphaMap BG maps show player icons correctly when moving from one BG to another

- updated the Eye of the Storm BG map to include secondary icons for the Capture objectives, as they are often obscured by player icons

- IMPORTANT BUG FIX FOR PEOPLE WHO DO NOT USE AlphaMap Battleground Maps as Default Maps in BG
Thank you to dw420 for their error reports

OTHER IMPORTANT CHANGES
- New Maps for :
Serpentshrine Cavern
Cavern of Time : Old Hillsbrad Foothills
Cavern of Time : Battle for Mount Hyjal
Cavern of Time : Black Morass
Karazahn
Lord Kazzak map updated to Outland Doom Lord Kazzak map
Zul'Aman
( Some created myself, some thanks again to Daveish

- Updated for latest Gatherer Beta

- Added support for Gatherer's control of Icon Sizes

- Added secondary BG Objecive Icons to the Eye of the Storm BG map, as status often obscured by Player Icons

- if AlphaMap on-map Instance note tooltips have been disabled, then neither will the note be highlighted when you mouse over it

- Miscallaneous data corrections, and updates, including localisation corrections and Atlas Loot IDs

- Thottbott compatibility update

glad i could help and glad an update is comin...feels like wearing no underwear when u'r missing somethin u got in there from day 1

for me A-map is the only mapmod that can be on screen 90% of the time and not obstruct [no buttons badly placed etc] ... in general although it lacks stuff other mapmods have, scale it to 30-40% and it can be turned into a kind of mini-map that works wonders for traveling through long unexplored distances / doing mining runs etc...

will be doing intensive testing of it when the update is up

Bugs

Thanks to dw420 for the information

I managed to repeat one error, and hopefully it should be fixed in my next release, and it was my mistake based on recent comments to suggest it was linked to Cartographer - it was entirely my own fault ;'(

There seemed to be possibly a second problem, that I wasn't able to repeat, but I've put a double check in place, and hopefully that won't be an issue from now on either.

v2.90.20003 out soon...

@dw420

Thanks for the bug report - obviously Carto is causing some issues... I'll try to have another test.

I'll stick by my suggestion for display of notes, but I will consider NOT highlighting notes when the Tooltips are turned off... you still won't be able to click 'through' a note.

Based on what you said, there may be some confusion about the display of notes in Battlegrounds - you can turn notes off, and the BG objectives will still be displayed in Battlegrounds; So I use it as a true Battlefield Minimap replacement with no Header/Footer/Key/Notes displayed, and ONLY the map showing - but Towers and GYs and their Capture status will still be displayed - if you want to track Quest item locations in Alterac Valley, then I still think flicking up Notes via a key bound HotSpot is the best option

I also apologise for the tone of my comment back to you, and I especially don't mind if someone takes the time to give full details for 'suggestions' of functionality that are not already in place
However, I did find it irritating that you repeated the occurrance of an error, but gave me NO details at that time of what the error report was - something that had already annoyed me from the previous posting, and which I felt I had been clear about.

I also don't agree with your last comment where you suggest looking at the support I already have for other AddOns would tell me what to support in Carto. I don't use that AddOn, so I'm supposed to load it and play with it and find out everything it can do because someone who already does use it can't be bothered to say what support they want exactly ?
I knew it had some map noting functionality because I had to be very inventive to make "MapNotes (Fan's Update)" work with Carto/MetaMap at people's request - but until I read your comment, I didn't know it had also absorbed Gatherer functionality...or at least I had forgotten by the time I read the original vauge request for 'compatibility'.

My immediate priority is to work on the bug problem caused by Carto, and I'll try to add support for Carto's icons at a later date

However, I will probably only look at supporting Carto's MapNotes - as there are a legion of programmers displaying different kinds of icons with a variety of different modules, it might be more worth you time asking them to support AlphaMap
Its not the usual 'direction' to ask for compatibility, but its perfectly possible for them to put their icons on AlphaMap themselves

Re: Well at least you have given more detail now.

Worlds first being told down for being descriptive...good one

i could have strung up 3 lines asking stuff...and then u would prob hit me back with a need more feedback or something like that...i posted cause u said to the previous poster that the sentence cartographer support didnt said everything & u asked for more...

[seeing what kind of support there is available for the rest of the mapmods defines what the person wanted :P]

i didnt and still dont know ur country of origin, english language education level etc etc so i had to be as descriptive as possible

anyways will be hitting u back with the A-map error etc next week when back @ home...thnx for the "workaround" to my suggestion but it doesnt suit my needs.

If u feel that they should be there obstructing the way when all note options are off besides the note background...waht can i say...try using A-map to replace [30~40% scale] the standard BGmap in AV...

Your suggestion about the option "allow changes.." didnt solve/change anything. in any aspect. it was a generalistic assumption that the person with the problem has set an option on which is off by default..

Ps.sorry bout the tone of the post but i dont like being told down for no reason and do not intend to start taking it in now.

have a nice day and keep up the good work.

Showing Instance Maps without Highlighting Notes

The best way to have an Instance Map on screen all the time, but without having the Notes interfering with Mouse Clicks is the following :

1.) Hide the Instance AlphaMap Notes by default.
2.) Use the HotSpot functionality to display the notes when you really need to see them.

You can trigger HotSpot functionality from the Minimap button, or with a key binding, as well as the Map Selector Drop Down boxes Hot Spot.

@dw420

If you really want to be helpfull, I'd appreciate it if you reported the error the you say can occur when entering/leaving BGs ?

You pointed out that my suggestion "didn't work", but you didn't say what it didn't work in solving ? My suggestion was only aimed at people who have trouble clikcing Carto's World Map buttons if they have used AlphaMap to change the Blizzard World Map...

I'll think about adding the Carto note support.

Well at least you have given more detail now.

So the support you wanted was for display of Carto's map notes/icons on AlphaMap.

Fair enough - Very simply summed up in my last sentence I think...

One bug report that Carto stops AlphaMap working when entering BGs?

And one request to leave boss notes on Instance maps without highlight/tooltips.

Again, very simply summed up in one sentence.

On behalf of AddOn authors everywhere - clear, simple requests would be appreciated rather than large, obscure lists of requests. Thanks

3 simple, clear sentences would have got the details and information across very quickly and got a much better response from me as an author

Re: Yes

If you are using another AddOn that changes the Blizzard WorldMap, then make sure you check the following :
1.) open up a WorldMap zone in AlphaMap
2.) open up the AlphaMap Options frame
3.) open the Miscallaneious Tab
4.) make sure you UN-Check the "Allow changes to the Blizzard Map"

Someone explained to me that the above option might conflict with Cartographer - if this is what you meant, and you had a problem, then please describe the issue; Don't just say 'any chance of support'. Did you try running them together?

I have been trying to combine usage of the two addons with limited success [managed to do it in previous versions , failing to do so now].
As it stands the best i can get out of the combination is alphamap working as an onscreen minimap WITHOUT showing any cartographer notes...just a small map...although handy its usefulness has diminished greatly.

i have tried ur above suggestion and it doesnt work
also tried turning all alphamap options related to mapnotes on/off but still no luck

Some cartographer - alphamap issues i have noticed...(both latest versions)

alphamap tends to lock on a location and stops working. :
[lets say u log-on in IF , enter a BG, play and leave , alphamap still shows the BG map...or gives an error and shows a blank map]

cartographer icons dont display on alphamap:
[lets say u are a miner like me..ur mining icons will not show on the alphamap only on cartographer]

Alphamap suggestions

Disable mapnotes hover/highlight in instances:
pls make it so that when in an instance i can disable the hovering on the notes [black circles with numbers] without disabling them totally. It would be nice if they were visible but didnt obstruct the mouse clicking through with some option set.
[as it stands if u disable any related options the best u can end up with is disabling the sidenotes etc but when u hover on the boss locations the spot is highlighted...]

It would be nice to have the boss spots show but without the hovering highlight so that the map can be brought up at 20-30% opacity & 70% size and be used constantly
[to those who recall...something similar to the way Diablo had a minimap pop up overlaying the screen but not interfering with clicks.]

Thank u for ur time and keep up the good work Hope to see cart and alpha work together flawlessly again

PS.
[for those trying to combine cart+alphamap (although i dont see the point why at this time) and cant:
disable foglight and install Mozzfullworldmap]

@Kaaihn

You can already do this

Hold down the <Control> Key, and then Click and drag the coordinate numbers, and drop them somewhere else on the Map - wherever you need.

It was bugged in v2.70.20003, but I fixed it again in v2.80.20003

Could you add an option to be able to reposition where the coordinates are displayed on the map please?

Thank you!
