News

Profession Leveling Guide (PLG) v6.0.2.1 just released!
Works with WoW Patch 6.0.2
If you want this addon in your own language, please send a translation or edit the localization directly.

About PLG

Profession Leveling Guide (PLG) is an in-game, load on demand guide to help you level your professions faster. The addon loads with the WoW professions tradeskills window. PLG will suggest a recipe that uses the fewest or cheapest materials that will give you the most skillups. It will tell you what to make, how many to make, if you need to keep them for the next recipe, where to get the recipe, and when to see your trainer. No complicated setup, no options, just load and go.

New In This Release

  • Updated blacksmithing, cooking, enchanting data.
  • Removed level restrictions.
  • Temporarily removed reagent Tracker.

PLG Features
  • Addon creates a new window to display leveling guide.
  • Addon Displays a recipe to make and sometimes suggests an alternate.
  • Addon displays a color bar under each recipe showing the difficulty level
  • Addon will list reagents needed once a recipe has been learned.
  • Reagents will display the **total** needed to get to the next recipe.
  • Addon will display text at the top of the window when it's time to visit your trainer.
  • Each new recipe will be selected in your tradeskill window.
  • If you have not learned a recipe, the addon will direct you to your trainer or the vendor who sells the recipe.
  • If a recipe must be obtained from a specific vendor, the addon will list the vendor name, zone, and coordinates in the vendor icon tooltip.
  • If a recipe must be obtained from a specific quest chain, the addon will list the quest, questgiver, zone, and coordinates in the quest icon tooltip.
  • If a quest chain has a prerequisite quest, that quest will be listed as well.
  • Clicking on a quest or vendor icon link will set a waypoint in Carbonite or TomTom if either are installed.
  • Addon only uses about 300k of Memory.
  • Clicking the help icon at the top right of the window will give you tips for a profession, and tips for using the guide.
  • Addon will not display if a profession is fully leveled.
  • Addon adds missing reagents for the current recipe to the WoW Quest Tracker.
  • Reagent tracking can be turned on or off at the bottom of the guide window, or in the Objectives menu in the Quest Tracker.
  • Reagents in the Quest Tracker will display below all other quests.

  • If any Recipes/Patterns are incorrect, or another pattern works better for a particular level, please send me the information and I'll update the addon.
  • If anyone would like to provide translations, all the text can be located in the PLG\Localization\enUS.lua file or in the project localization area.

@BloodyAlice Excellent! I know just how annoyed or amazed I'd have to be to actually register and comment on something so I try and help as best I can.

Thumbs up Tracking Issues Re:

The first suggestion you posted worked like a charm. In the event that you can't fix the tracking issue, I'll still be using this addon. <3 it!

Thanks so much!

Re: Tracking Issues

@BloodyAlice Thanks! I'm glad you liked it so much. There's no really good way to do it yet, but I will figure something out for the next release. That said, you can try either of these...

In your chat window, type "/dump PLG_Tracker.Database:Clear()" without the quotes. Or, try typing "/script PLG_Tracker.Database:Clear()"

If that doesn't work, you can do it the hard way and go into your World of Warcraft folder and navigate to WTF\Account\[YOURACCOUNTNAME]\[YOURSERVER]\[YOURCHARACTER]\SavedVariables\ and delete PLG_Tracker.lua

Thanks for catching this. Tracking is a new addition and I'm still finding a few bugs.

Tracking Issues

First off, I'd like to say I've been using this addon for a few days, and liked it enough that when I encountered this issue, I made an account here to ask for help. Onto the issue:

On my level 5 undead mage, I picked up herbalism and alchemy. I ended up dropping them both and picking up enchanting and tailoring instead. Now, it won't stop tracking reagents for alchemy even though I no longer have the profession. I can click to stop tracking, but then it hides my tailoring and enchanting reagents, and I really like those. Is there a way to make the addon stop tracking reagents for professions I no longer have?

Re: small problem

@mistiq Thanks! Don't worry about the spamming, it'll be gone in the next release. I'm working on a major update with bug fixes, recipe updates, style changes, new language support, and the ability to track missing reagents with the quest tracker. It'll be out soon. I hope

small problem

Hi love your addon.
But when im on a character with mining, or rather the smelting part; when I open the profession window to smelt the addon keeps spamming an error, something along the line : No recipe found. PLG closing.
Its not a deal breaker but it gets annoying when your chat window us full of it when smelting

Re: Re: Suggestion - master of the ways

@Treebot I actually ran into Exactly the same problem. I found myself wishing I could fast forward the guide a bit. Unfortunately the reagents can only be pulled from WoW if you know the recipe/pattern. So I can't programatically scan and list ALL the reagents needed. The only way I can think of right now to do that is to add everything to the guide's database. And that's a lot of memory bloat. I'll keep thinking about it since it will bug me as much as anyone else.

Re: Suggestion - master of the ways

I've been testing your addon on an alt and I like it a lot! My only issue is that I actually enjoy gathering when I'm leveling a profession, so I don't buy stuff off the AH. If you gather while using this profession guide, it's very frustrating.

Here's an example; I head out to Stranglethorn to herb, pick up the required amount of Stranglekelp, make the potion I need, then I'm told to visit the Alchemy trainer. I train up, then I'm required to collect Liferoot, which has the highest density in EPL. So I collect Liferoot in EPL, train up. Then I find out I need even more Stranglekelp, which means I need to head back down to Stranglethorn again.

It would be nice if you could provide a total needed materials list, so we don't have to run back and forth across continents. Had I known I needed 40+ Stranglekelp to begin with, it would make this so much easier. Just my 2c!
