Better Battle Pet Tooltip

I am no longer developing or maintaining World of Warcraft addons. I haven't played in years, and don't have the time or interest to continue working on addons for a game I don't play anymore. Adds your highest collected level and best collected quality to battle pet tooltips.

Features

It works with unit tooltips for wild battle pets, item tooltips for caged battle pets and items that teach battle pets, and minimap tracking tooltips.

The default "Collected (1/3)" text is changed to "Collected (Level 25)", to indicate the level of your collected pet, and both the text and the tooltip border are colored by the rarity of your collected pet.

Colorblind users will be shown the rarity name (eg. "Rare") at the end of the info line, and the text won't be colored.

For wild pets you have already fought, but forfeited out of the battle, the tooltip for that pet will show its quality. This can be helpful for pets that travel in groups, so you can easily see which ones you haven't checked for quality yet. Please note that this only works for unit tooltips (not minimap tracking tooltips) and only for that individual pet (not others of the same type). This information is not saved between login sessions or UI reloads.

Options

Type /bbpt to open the options panel, or browse to it in the game’s Interface Options window.

Post a comment. If you are reporting a bug, please include directions I can follow to reproduce the bug, whether it still happens when all other addons are disabled, and the exact text of the related error message (if any) as shown in Bugger/BugSack/Swatter.

Please note that I consider this addon to be complete, and will probably not add any new features.

Works in all locales. Translated into English, Deutsch, Español, Français, Italiano, Português, Русский.

But for some reason after a few days it starts bugging out over the minimap. When I hover over a pet paw there, it initially shows the standard tooltip (just the name of the pet, no level info) but if I hover over it again it starts spamming like CRAZY with the level info. It scrolls up and up on my screen until I move away from the paw print. This has happened a lot with me over the course of using this addon, I don't know if it conflicts with specific addons or if others have seen this happen. I just thought I would let you know what I saw. :-)

Thank you! I have quite a few addons so I did as you mentioned - I tried disabling Overachiever, Tiptac, various RP mods, etc. and nothing seemed to change. Finally I figured it out. It's an addon called 'Spy'. I had an option in it enabled for the minimap - 'display levels/class in tooltip'. This only works if someone is tracking... like a druid, hunter, or tracker food, and if spy picks up their normal blips on the minimap. You can mouseover their blip and it will append their level and class (for enemy factions). With spy and your addon enabled, they were looping each other infinitely. When I disabled that specific option, it stopped looping.

Based on a cursory examination of that addon's code, it's definitely causing the problem, by changing the tooltip text (adding extra line breaks and/or color codes) even when it doesn't add any information because the tooltip isn't for a player. Its author should fix their code to stop doing this.

The other solution would be for me to add extra code to try to guess whether the tooltip text changed because you moved the cursor over something else or because another addon changed it, but that's just throwing more unnecessary bloat on top of the other addon's unnecessary bloat. Better for everyone if the other addon stops doing unnecessary things.

I totally agree. I don't expect you to modify your addon to fix some coding from another addon. I just unticked the class/level minimap appending option for Spy on my end and your tooltip is working fine now. I'm glad I figured out where the issue was coming from!

Kithhurrn A Deviate Faerie Dragon Forum posts: 15 File comments: 12 Uploads: 0	Patch 6.02 causing bad behavior I use Pet Tracker and Better Battle Pet Tooltips and since the pre-patch BBPT has been having unintended behavior. Basically if BBPT is enabled the zone tracker for PT just gives a solid blue bar and no text. So, for instance, in a zone where I've captured 5/7 pets and not all are rares I'd normally have a bar blue/green/empty with the text 5/7 on it. I tested with all addons off and just BBPT and PT enabled and get the same behavior. Seems like such a minor problem I know but much as I love getting the extra info from the tooltip on pet level/rarity of what I have I also depend on the zone tracker. Hoping you'll have a bit of time soon to look into this. And BTW, really appreciate the work you've put into this and other addons. Thanks much! ;p

They both seem to be working but I do have to open the pet journal after any reload to get the zone tracker bar to show x/x pets and for the bar to not be all blue regardless of how many rares I have from that zone. Very minor issue but odd lol. At least I can have both addons up now. Many thanks ;p.

BTW...I removed the Cache folder and removed the Saved Variables prefs for both addons and the toon specific prefs then relaunched with only BBPT and PT running and this didn't happen. But regardless of what addon I add when I do the reload to activate it I have to open Pet Journal to get the zone tracker to track properly. Not sure if that helps pinpoint it any.

Edit: Even a /reload without making any changes results in the blank all blue bar for zone tracker. Zoning, such as zeps hasn't had this occur so far. Curiouser and curiouser lol.
