What Is Fundamental UI?

Fundamental UI is based off one simple idea, one of which I am sure many UI builders and designers
always take into consideration, that is to include as much useful information in as little screen space as
possible, it is in essence what minimalism is meant to be and as Da Vinci would put it, the height of
sophistication. However over the years, one UI style has dominated the forefront when it came to
this idea. One we are all very aware of, chat log left, chat log right, action bars middle, minimap top right/left,
Done and dusted, and I can't comment as I also was part of that group that contributed to that UI style taking
center stage.

Fundamental WoD is an attempt to break away from that niche, taking two concept UIs I have worked on
previously and fusing them together to create this rather unique (in comparison to most current UIs) style
of interface whilst still Including well known features which I believe help contribute to effective and
efficient gameplay in any WoW gaming environment.



Installation Guide


OUT OF GAME

1. Download and extract Interface and WTF to desktop.

2. Go to your World of Warcraft directory and remove andback up your old
WTF/Interface Folders.

3. Place the new downloaded Fundamental folders into your WoW Directory.

4. Go into WTF and then into Account and rename "ACCOUNT" to your account name.

5. Go into the newly renamed "ACCOUNT" and Change "Server Name" to your server name.

6. Go into "Server Name" and change "Character Name" to your character's name.

7. Load the game and watch the pretty WoD Cinematic, load out of date addons (not that there
is any!).

8. Login to the character you wish to configure.


IN GAME

1. Type /BT4 go to profiles and copy from profile Addisun

2. Type /Grid2 go to profiles and copy from profile Addisun

3. Type /Raven go to profiles and copy from profile Addisun

4. Whilst In Raven go to Bar groups, select Class Track from the drop down top left,
select buffs along the top tab group below, scroll down to Filter List and add your
own class buffs you wish to track (should already be setup for Prot/Fury Warriors)

5. Type /KuiNamePlates go to profiles and copy from profile Addisun

6. Unlock your chat window and move to the correct area (takes some fiddling)

7. Type /reload

8. Configure your graphics settings again, it should maintain 1920x1080 but all others should
reset to default, same goes for sound.

9. If you're really fussy drag the little AtlasLoot icon around until it's in the top right
corner of the minimap.



Known Bugs/Compatability

1. Breeze is still very much in Beta and can bug out occasionally on certain follower quests

2. Fambags can be a little iffy with its categories from time to time, a simple /reloadui should do the
trick.

Aha this question has been asked to me numerous times and is something I'd love to be able to do, but unfortunately it's more a matter of resources, as of current I don't think my resolution allows for any of the more rare laptop based widescreen resolutions (I've had requests for things like 1380x860 before). It's something I'd love to incorporate but it's just a natural problem of resources.

I could always outsource it and let someone else reconfigure it to work with said resolutions, but the problem with that is it always becomes just a secondary UI, and most of the time loses a lot of the utility that my UI's tend to have, and as such isn't a "Fundamental UI" sorry aha that sounds big headed, but a lot of corners tend to be cut to make a UI scale into a smaller screen.

as for the moment it's only viable in 1920 vertical resolutions, although the scaling should be fine to fit into 1680 if you know what you need to be moving, which for an intermediate UI designer should be easy to achieve once 1.0.1 is released and more of the KGpanels are anchored together as a single piece.

BUT! It's certainly something I'd like to look into, and will consider in the future (possibly after 1.0.1) so maybe in a few weeks! I'll see what I can do (:

Personally, I do love DXE as I've been a healer for most of my time on WoW I'm never entirely aware of what % of health the boss is on. DXE provides a nice skinnable frame that always shows the current % of the boss, it also has some very accurate timers, and some features that you don't see in DBM or BigWigs. Out of all 3 though I rank them in the following.

DXE - Dues Vox Encounters
Big Wigs
DBM

unfortunately however, DXE seems like it might have been discontinued or certainly not updated yet for MoP, I'll be looking into a few raid addons friday night and should hopefully have what I consider a good skinned Boss Mod in ready for Saturdays 1.0.1 release.

If Saturday's 1.0.1 release is pushed back however I will release a primer 1.0c with boss mods included (: and a few other small tweaks to the power bar for pallys/warlocks/monks/rogues (:

unfortunately I can't do much to help you without a screenshot to truly identify the problem.

Off the top of my head however, It may possibly be one of the following.

Your resolution isn't 1920x1080
Your UI scale isn't set to the absolute left.

hey there i am new to the whole use of custom ui for wow but i am loving the look of this ui but the kgpanels on my computer will not line up and i do not know what to do or what i havent done

there are 30 seperate panels in kgpanels for this UI :S so it's certainly possible it would just take an exceedingly large amount of time on your part, I am very sorry I can't help you.

Looking at the resolution (in a later frame of mind), it might be doable quite easily though. Because your running a 1920 res like myself, the only axis that change is the Vertical axis, and that only increases. It is doable, I'm not sure what the setup would look like upon login but I can guide you through changing it to fit 1920x1200 IF i see a screenshot.

At the moment I can give you a list of addons that would need to be adjusted.

1. Kgpanels
i) Map + Bars
i) Action Bars
i) Chatlog/Combatlog panels
i) Viewport

But these wouldn't need a resize just a nudge up/down.

2. Pitbull

this would need to be physically moved, I would suggest downloading an addon called wAlign to help with this, I use it in the developers package of this.

3. Raven

easy to configure and unlock this addon but again should be easy. And not too many of these need to be moved to make this work

4. Stat Block Core + Brokers

only need to be moved along side the kgpanels etc, although should be fine.

Gnosis and MSBT however should be fine, and those are the primary graphical/combat addons I can see needing moving, other than Skada which is a pretty simple job too.

What I'd suggest
I'll update this UI within about 2 weeks to version 1.0.1, I will be adding DXE + a Focus frame and fixing the bag addons a bit etc. What I will do however, is properly anchor all of the KGpanels to their various addons, this way you'll be able to move the addons (Bartender4, Minimap... etc) around and the panels will follow, all the other panels that come in a pack of 5 at the moment I'll also anchor together so that you only need to move one and the others will follow.

Then it may be easier to reconfigure this UI to work with your resolution.

NOTE
This fix is only possible because the X resolution is identical to the original release, and it's not a matter of scaling the UI.

You guys make me smile so bad, I am very sorry with how everything happened in Cataclysm. A lot arose in my life, a lot of problems rather rapidly in regards to money and work and university I ended up working 30 hour weeks and studying at University as well to try and pull myself out of debt, all of these things I couldn't really anticipate when I was working on these projects, and so most of the time I got home and just wanted to spend time with my other half, or just relax else where.

However, I know this isn't the first time I've said this, but I will be back during the release of MoP as my timetable has quietened down this year, my debt isn't so much an issue anymore and I'm going to be very much more rigid with my time, I shall set aside every Saturday to work on a UI or a series of UI's or my UI and just to make it better, and will update it every week on that Saturday at 8:00PM GMT time. I don't expect you guys to believe me because I've said this so many times! And have been absent so often, so hopefully I'll gain all of your respect again once I actually commit to this and show results!

I am very excited for MoP and the release of 5.0 on August the 28th and hope to see you all there!

August 28th & 5.0

Obviously once August 28th hits all our addons will die out from the previous expansion and require an update, when this happens I shall immediately start creating a UI out of the most common updated addons I can find, I will ressurect one of the Fundamental designs if not create a new one better suited to MoP, this will be suited to my play style at the time.

What you can expect are the following.

1920x1080
Levelling/Raiding design style (primarily designed for a healer/tank, but adaptable to DPS)
Clean Style
Minimalist featuring graphical elements
Uniformity through addons

everything else, well you all know the drill. I will upload it as a new thread on these forums and possibly Curse but as always you will recognise it under the FUNDAMENTAL tag.
