Tidy Plates Beta  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 6.18.Beta3
by: danltiger [More]

This is a major update to Tidy Plates, and many things have changed.

Having Trouble?

* Quick Fix - Quick Setup:
1. Use '/tp' to reselect your Theme
2. Use '/hub' to check your settings...
...Some settings have been pruned!

Here are some of the bigger changes:

* Hub Revamp / Phase 1
1. Removed theme copies; ie. "Damage" and "Tank"
2. Theme copies have become 'Profiles'
3. Access profiles via: '/tp'
4. You can still use '/hub' to jump to the
appropriate panel
5. Again, some settings have been pruned!

* NEON is the only theme that has been updated in Beta1
* QUATRE will be available in Beta2
* GREY will be available in Beta3

* Numerous Bug Fixes & Improvements
* Numerous Bug "Additions", possibly

I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience these changes may cause.
Think of this: Changes mean that this addon is being actively developed
and maintained, rather than withering.

I'm not going to bug you by popping up an ad whenever you hit "Download". If you enjoy this addon and want to send a monetary "Thank You", please visit our Pledgie page by clicking on the button, above.

---------------------------
6.18.Beta1
---------------------------
Nameplate-pocalypse!!!!!!!

99% of the previous nameplate system has been replaced by Blizzard for Legion.

Rebuilding has been slow, since I'm (apparently) a grown-up, now. ;-)

BUT, progress is indeed being made!

The internal widgets are disabled, which means the Aura timers are not working. I'm rewriting the entire bloody system because we now have a good way to capture that data without all the trickery that was previously required. (Blizzard does love us!)

Again, progress is being made!

Many things are broken, so I expect that many of you might want to check back with Tidy Plates in a week or so.

Happy questing!

Here are some of the bigger changes:

* The Hub has been revamped and some rearranging has been done.

removed, let me know...

* Numerous Bug Fixes & Improvements
* Numerous Bug "Additions"? (Quite possible!)

I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience these changes may cause...

6.16.Beta7
--------------------------------------

Things still needing testing...
* Healer Tracking

6.16.Beta2:
--------------------------------------
* Widgets/UnitCache: Fix for mouseover bug
* Class Coloring: Fixed IsInInstance() issue.. maybe?
* Hub: Removed "Default" choice from the Friendly and Enemy Coloring Modes (Yeah, this will make current settings funk-up... but it cleans out that redundant choice)

--------------------------------------
6.16.Beta1: Full-ish List of Changes:
--------------------------------------

Core:
* Core/Panel: !! The Bundled themes no longer create a "Damage" and "Tank" copy !!
* Core/Panel: Introduced a new menu set, called Profiles, which will load the appropriate "Damage", "Tank", or "Healer" Hub profile.
* Core/Panel: When the selected theme is invalid, it'll fall-back to the first available theme.
* Core/Panel: Added a Slash Command alias, "/tp" in addition to "/tidyplates"

Bundled Themes:
* Themes: Neon & Quatre now have CastProtected art. About time!
* Neon: New Elite Icon, which looks more like I'd originally intended. (Replaces the old Star)
* Removed "Blizzard Theme"... Sorry guys... There are core things that I want to get done, and fixing/maintaining
that component is not a priority. It will probably return, but don't hold your breath.

Widgets:
* Widgets/UnitCache: Replaced " (*)" with FOREIGN_SERVER_LABEL, which will fix unit-caching on certain server types.
* Widgets/UnitCache: Now using a Scanning Tooltip, which should prevent conflicts with TipTac and other Tooltip mods
* Widgets/Aura: Combat Log Event Handler now skips units which are group members, relying on the general
Unit event handler for their updates.

Hub/General:
* Hub: Colorized 'Friendly' and 'Enemy' description titles, to improve readability.
* Separated Hub functions.lua into discrete category files
* Tweaked some names/descriptions
* Removed Threat Wheel widget from Hub
* Hub: Added a button to the Advanced category; "Clear Cache", which purges the stored Class/Description/Guild data
* Hub/Advanced: "Health Bar Width" (%) Allows you to tweak the relative width of the theme's Health Bar (Experimental)

Hub/Colors:
* Hub/Reaction: New Color, "Tapped Unit"
* Hub/Color Function: Tapped Color will be applied, taking priority over Threat/Etc. functions

Hub/Scale:
* Hub: Scale: Added, Bring Target units to Spotlight Scale, Bring Mouseovers to Spotlight Scale

Hub/Health Bar View:
* Removed several of the Status Text choices; These will reappear in a more advanced "Custom Text" category (Working on it...)
* NOTE: The CUSTOM/ADVANCED Status Text function hasn't been written, yet; Thus, it doesn't do anything at the moment...

Hub/Opacity:
* Hub: Opacity: Enemy & Friendly units now have their own independent Spotlight Modes
* Hub: Opacity: Spotlight Modes; Removal of some redundant and underused modes.
* Hub: Opacity: New Checkbox, "Spotlight Raid Marked"
* Hub: Opacity: Modified Checkbox, "Bring Mouseovers to Target Opacity" to "Spotlight Mouseover"
* Hub: Opacity: Modified Checkbox, "Bring Casting Units to Target Opacity" to "Spotlight Casting Units"

Hub/Aura Widget:
* Hub: Buffs & Debuffs: Replaced "Aura Widget Mode" Dropdown with Checkboxes: "Include My Buffs", and "Include My Debuffs".
* Hub: Buffs & Debuffs: The widget will now use a Smart Mode, where it first evaluates the checkboxes, then evaluates the Aura List.
* Hub: Buffs & Debuffs: Added the "Not" prefix to the aura list; This new mode allows you to blacklist auras from "Show My Debuffs" etc.

Framework:
* Hub: Quick Frame Templates now return the created frame twice (ie. assign two references with a single call, which helps with the Quick Frame setup)
* Fixed some Odd Mouseover Behavior
* Rearranged and removed some old Hub stuff. Cleaning out functions, removing ancient code, removed items of questionable utility

If you get a chance, give one of the simpler themes a shot; Some of the older themes contained code which enabled the mouseover reaction, which may be introducing redundant instructions.

<5 FPS sounds severe; Even on my low-end machine (running at 1280x760),making constant mouseover sweeps while tanking (80% 10 mans, however), I hardly ever dip below 15. (Dal, with no addons, runs at 7 on this machine)

Now, the reason that I point that out is not to suggest that you're doing something wrong. Rather, I'm providing an example to indicate that it's not the typical operation, and that something under the hood is not working as intended. So, we gotta figure out what the problem is. First thing; Conditions..

Do the frame drops occur in 5-mans? How about 10-mans?
If you use a non-widgeted theme, do the frame drops occur?

We'll just take it step by step..

It might be more noticeable for me because I usually run at 60+fps and can notice when the framerate becomes anything less than smooth. It's barely noticeable until a ton of mobs pop up on the screen of course this is in the middle of a 25-man raid with all stuff flying around and then the stuttering gets bad (transient drops to <5 fps) whenever waves of adds appear just as their nameplates pop up.

I'm using the Cleanplates theme if that makes any difference. I can test Tidyplates using the default theme next time to see if its the addon or the core mod.

I have about 2 MB of addons and don't run a damagemeter.

As usual, what theme are you using? Are you using the Beta version of Tidy Plates? The release?

See, there's gotta be something different in our software environment for us to get different results. Gotta figure out what those differences are to figure out what I might need to change.

I too get this. I stopped using Tidy Plates on my raiding character because of this.. From ICC trash to heroics (like PoS), it just stutters from time to time. I've also noticed that the stuttering gets a lot worse after a while. For example, I was farming heroics on my new toon for like 4 hours; there was no noticeable degradation from the get-go but towards the end it was just so unbearable that I had to restart WoW/Logout.

I've also experienced stuttering with Tidy Plates on in like ToC5. When the jousters are able to be targeted for the first time there is some noticeable stuttering. There's also stuttering when a mob dies..

My system specs aren't bad: AMD Phenom X4 9850 with 8gb of memory, and I'm rocking a NVIDIA 9800GT with 1024mb memory..

I will test this week using the beta build with the default grey theme. I'm not sure if performance gets worse as time goes on but I'll look out for it.

The "Raid-Tanked" feature seems like a good idea. It appears to be putting a big sword icon over a nameplate for a mob not being tanked by a main tank?

The problem is that in a 5-man it doesn't recognize yourself as a tank even if Tidy Plates is in tank mode, so everything you are tanking has that icon. It should be disabled outside of raids.

I noticed that the latest version has removed the level text. I prefer it this way, because it gives more space for the unit name.

As it is, the Grey/DPS panel doesn't seem to work. If you change any settings, click Apply, then reload your UI or log out and back in, the settings are reset to the default. At least for some of the settings. Some seem to be saving.

That's the idea ;-) Right now, it just uses raid roles to determine the tank roster.

Quite right; I'm trying to figure out how I want to do this without much adding more frames/complexity. For the time-being, you can disable the widget in the interface control panel during 5-mans.

In general, all widgets are going to get some polishing.

I noticed that the latest version has removed the level text. I prefer it this way, because it gives more space for the unit name.
I prefer it this way, too. And, since it's my own damn addon, I get to make it the way I like, right? ;-)

It's doing that again? Grr. Thought I had that fixed, but it looks like I needta look at it again.

I seem to have a problem with scaling not saving, I'll try deleting my saved variables later, but it seems the nameplates are always the same size on grey/tank after a pull or two regardless of how I set the scale.

Thanks for the feedback! The next update should bring some improvement; I've been messin' about with everything! haha

To everyone: If you're using VirtualPlates and one of the size-changing themes, there will be.. ahem...slight issues.

And, to make matters slightly painful, I have not come up with anything that solves the problem to my liking.

If you control nameplate alpha with that nameplate's OnUpdate handler, you won't need to simulate parenting. The performance hit isn't too bad once it's optimized.

You could keep the original nameplates' OnUpdate scripts unset, and only set them when the player has a target (the only time nameplates are forced transparent). OnUpdate scripts set like this are guaranteed to run right after the game forces plate alpha, so you could use it to detect the player's target too.

At that point all nameplates would be permanently opaque, so the templates would only need to set the extended frame's alpha once, and on target swaps if the theme wants to.

I use a setup like this in my personal nameplate mod, and it works with or without _VirtualPlates installed.

I may play around with that method. I'm skeptical about the OnUpdate performance hit, but it might be worth a shot.

Just some suggestions with the PvP mode:

1. Automatic threat glow turning on and off. (is a part of threat plates)
2. Adding an arena ID when available for pvp cast bars.
3. Maybe a "unit.isPet" for the various pet types (probably not practical to implement).

@Dan

Sorry, I left out some crucial information. I was using the release version coupled with Tidy Plates: Threat Plates.

I've since stopped using Tidy Plates to see if that was the issue.. it seems as if it was, because I just farmed around 20 heroics without restarting WoW and didn't notice any performance degradation. I've also come to the realization that there's no need for me to use Tidy Plates now that I can see threat with the default theme, so thanks!
