Tidy Plates Beta  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 6.18.Beta3
by: danltiger [More]

This is a major update to Tidy Plates, and many things have changed.

Having Trouble?

* Quick Fix - Quick Setup:
1. Use '/tp' to reselect your Theme
2. Use '/hub' to check your settings...
...Some settings have been pruned!

Here are some of the bigger changes:

* Hub Revamp / Phase 1
1. Removed theme copies; ie. "Damage" and "Tank"
2. Theme copies have become 'Profiles'
3. Access profiles via: '/tp'
4. You can still use '/hub' to jump to the
appropriate panel
5. Again, some settings have been pruned!

* NEON is the only theme that has been updated in Beta1
* QUATRE will be available in Beta2
* GREY will be available in Beta3

* Numerous Bug Fixes & Improvements
* Numerous Bug "Additions", possibly

I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience these changes may cause.
Think of this: Changes mean that this addon is being actively developed
and maintained, rather than withering.

I'm not going to bug you by popping up an ad whenever you hit "Download". If you enjoy this addon and want to send a monetary "Thank You", please visit our Pledgie page by clicking on the button, above.

---------------------------
6.18.Beta1
---------------------------
Nameplate-pocalypse!!!!!!!

99% of the previous nameplate system has been replaced by Blizzard for Legion.

Rebuilding has been slow, since I'm (apparently) a grown-up, now. ;-)

BUT, progress is indeed being made!

The internal widgets are disabled, which means the Aura timers are not working. I'm rewriting the entire bloody system because we now have a good way to capture that data without all the trickery that was previously required. (Blizzard does love us!)

Again, progress is being made!

Many things are broken, so I expect that many of you might want to check back with Tidy Plates in a week or so.

Happy questing!

6.16.Beta: Quick Notes
---------------------------
This is a MAJOR update to Tidy Plates, and many things have changed.

Here are some of the bigger changes:

removed, let me know...

* Numerous Bug Fixes & Improvements
* Numerous Bug "Additions"? (Quite possible!)

I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience these changes may cause...

Things still needing testing...
* Healer Tracking

* Hub: Removed "Default" choice from the Friendly and Enemy Coloring Modes (Yeah, this will make current settings funk-up... but it cleans out that redundant choice)

--------------------------------------
6.16.Beta1: Full-ish List of Changes:
--------------------------------------

Core:
* Core/Panel: !! The Bundled themes no longer create a "Damage" and "Tank" copy !!
* Core/Panel: Introduced a new menu set, called Profiles, which will load the appropriate "Damage", "Tank", or "Healer" Hub profile.
* Core/Panel: When the selected theme is invalid, it'll fall-back to the first available theme.
* Core/Panel: Added a Slash Command alias, "/tp" in addition to "/tidyplates"

Bundled Themes:
* Themes: Neon & Quatre now have CastProtected art. About time!
* Neon: New Elite Icon, which looks more like I'd originally intended. (Replaces the old Star)
* Removed "Blizzard Theme"... Sorry guys... There are core things that I want to get done, and fixing/maintaining
that component is not a priority. It will probably return, but don't hold your breath.

Widgets:
* Widgets/UnitCache: Replaced " (*)" with FOREIGN_SERVER_LABEL, which will fix unit-caching on certain server types.
* Widgets/UnitCache: Now using a Scanning Tooltip, which should prevent conflicts with TipTac and other Tooltip mods
* Widgets/Aura: Combat Log Event Handler now skips units which are group members, relying on the general
Unit event handler for their updates.

Hub/General:
* Hub: Colorized 'Friendly' and 'Enemy' description titles, to improve readability.
* Separated Hub functions.lua into discrete category files
* Tweaked some names/descriptions
* Removed Threat Wheel widget from Hub
* Hub: Added a button to the Advanced category; "Clear Cache", which purges the stored Class/Description/Guild data
* Hub/Advanced: "Health Bar Width" (%) Allows you to tweak the relative width of the theme's Health Bar (Experimental)

Hub/Colors:
* Hub/Reaction: New Color, "Tapped Unit"
* Hub/Color Function: Tapped Color will be applied, taking priority over Threat/Etc. functions

Hub/Scale:
* Hub: Scale: Added, Bring Target units to Spotlight Scale, Bring Mouseovers to Spotlight Scale

Hub/Health Bar View:
* Removed several of the Status Text choices; These will reappear in a more advanced "Custom Text" category (Working on it...)
* NOTE: The CUSTOM/ADVANCED Status Text function hasn't been written, yet; Thus, it doesn't do anything at the moment...

Hub/Opacity:
* Hub: Opacity: Enemy & Friendly units now have their own independent Spotlight Modes
* Hub: Opacity: Spotlight Modes; Removal of some redundant and underused modes.
* Hub: Opacity: New Checkbox, "Spotlight Raid Marked"
* Hub: Opacity: Modified Checkbox, "Bring Mouseovers to Target Opacity" to "Spotlight Mouseover"
* Hub: Opacity: Modified Checkbox, "Bring Casting Units to Target Opacity" to "Spotlight Casting Units"

Hub/Aura Widget:
* Hub: Buffs & Debuffs: Replaced "Aura Widget Mode" Dropdown with Checkboxes: "Include My Buffs", and "Include My Debuffs".
* Hub: Buffs & Debuffs: The widget will now use a Smart Mode, where it first evaluates the checkboxes, then evaluates the Aura List.
* Hub: Buffs & Debuffs: Added the "Not" prefix to the aura list; This new mode allows you to blacklist auras from "Show My Debuffs" etc.

Framework:
* Hub: Quick Frame Templates now return the created frame twice (ie. assign two references with a single call, which helps with the Quick Frame setup)
* Fixed some Odd Mouseover Behavior
* Rearranged and removed some old Hub stuff. Cleaning out functions, removing ancient code, removed items of questionable utility

Perfect. Thanks.

Using beta 10, I ran Neon/DPS through a WG game and Grey/DPS through ICC 25. Everything seems to work fine as far as I can tell.

The class color tweak made neon much more usable in large pvp fights. Great work!

Several ways of doing this, but here's one;

This is edited from the \TidyPlates_Neon\Tank\Functions.lua file:

Code:
local currentcolor
local function HealthColorDelegate(unit)
	if InCombatLockdown() and unit.reaction ~= "FRIENDLY" and unit.type == "NPC" then
			if unit.threatSituation == "LOW" then
				currentcolor = LocalVars.AggroLooseColor
				return currentcolor.r, currentcolor.g, currentcolor.b
			else
				currentcolor = LocalVars.AggroTankedColor
				return currentcolor.r, currentcolor.g, currentcolor.b
			end
	end
	return unit.red, unit.green, unit.blue
end

Adding the and unit.type == "NPC" is the key.

Hey Koopie,

Thanks for the skull icons; The icon that's 'packaged' with Tidy Plates is just the default skull from Blizz. I admit, it does look out-of-place with these non-default skins. I'll put it on the list.

:-)

I do have a minor suggestion tho. The current skull icons packaged on the addon are well... ugly The elite star is smooth and great, but i fell the skull one is terrible. Is it possible to have something similar in style with the elite one?

There are a couple of good looking ones out there, a simple google search gives multiple results.

The above images are available in multiple sizes, from 16x16 till 128x128.

That's actually the health text, leftover from the Grey theme. I just noticed that bug; When you change themes, and that text box is supposed to be hidden, the text box sometimes doesn't hide itself. And, since it's not updating, it always displays the last value that it was set to. A quick fix is to hide then show the nameplates, forcing a full update.

I'll add it to my list..

Edit: I was wrong. It was merely me misspelling a function name. Problem solved.

What is that percent number below the casting icon? It's not health, is it referring to threat? If so, is it necessary with the tug-o-bar widget? I've noticed those numbers pop up sometimes when I'm testing on dummies, but it doesn't show on all of them. I'm just not sure.

Ah, yeah, it IS a little off! I originally anchored the aura widget to slightly favor the left side, to make room for the combo points widget (if used). It looks like I got a liiiittle carried away - lol. I should probably do something that moves the anchors automagically depending on the widget. There's always 5.12, eh?

Edit - Most recent release (I'll upload it this afternoon) slides the debuffs over a touch.

AND, adds the debuffs to Grey/Tank.

I like the new changes, nice work. Everything looks good from initial dummy testing of beta9. The only minor thing I noticed was that the debuff anchor for the aura widget seems a little off-center while using the the Grey theme. It looks perfectly centered on the Neon.

Just posted Beta 9.

I'd like to release 5.11, tonight, barring any crazy bug discoveries, of course. (To the main download, I mean; This will have little effect on you kind people who've downloaded the beta, and tested things out. You have the newest version that exists, stable or not) Lemme know of any smallish (or biggish) bugs, and I'll try to nip em.

So... Tidy Plates is turning 1 year old in a few months. Ideas?

Hey, I totally understand; Having that extra symbol in front of the number causes a mental hiccup when quickly reading the number. I rarely use the text, so it's never even occurred to me. Now that I'm thinking about "readability", do you think that putting a space between the number and symbol (ex. "35 %") would help? I'm pretty sure those dudes from Chicago would frown, but I've always enjoying tweaking those kind of people.

Another little bug that I've fixed by dimming the highlight graphic, is that sometimes the highlight will become "stuck on". Seems to happen if you are hovering on the hitbox as a fight starts with "Hide nameplates out of combat" turned on.

I've tried to correct that behavior, but it actually happens to the default (non-Tidy Plates) nameplates as well. Still, I should probably re-visit it, at some point.

On to praise. Best nameplate mod hands down! The "Tug of Threat" is one of those ideas that is so simple, yet so perfect that I can see Blizzard stealing it in the future

Glad you like it! "Tug" is the idea that I'm most proud of, actually :-) If Blizz borrows it... well... there'd be some satisfaction. They really do need some sort of built-in threat monitor. I've got another addon - called "Tidy Threat" - which I had originally hoped that they might pick up on as a simple way of introducing players to the concept of Threat.

Regarding 3x2; I'm willing to give it a shot.

About the original mockup; I did try that design, but decided on some revisions after seeing it in motion. The text on the left side of the icon felt too cluttered, and I felt that it was harder to quickly identify the debuffs.

AND, I'd left out a place to display stacks, which I would want to see if I were me; Adding that text compounded the layout issues. I feel that I've reached a decent compromise by positioning the text so that it partially hangs off the icon; My eye hits the left side of the icon (which is uncovered), and reads right, making ID more natural.

I also removed the little gradients and blurs - which looked neat in the mockup - but made the icons hard to see when action was happening.

Edit: Just tried the 3x2 and it seems to look nice. I'll upload it when I get a chance.

Have you tried 3 debuffs per row instead of 4 for a maxumum of 6 debuffs? I doubt there is a strong need to monitor more than that and it would look larger and neater to fit at the same time. Then you could use that nice layout with the time next to the icon that everyone liked in that mockup pic you posted (bottom left I think?).

I'm not a big fan of shrinkage eith... er.... OH, about the buffs!

I agree with you on the duration filter. For the initial release, that (and being self-applied) will be the only filter. User configuration would be planned for some future release.

For size, you could adjust the scale of the widget with :SetScale(scale) and make it as big as you wanted. That'd increase the text size/visibility, too. The current size modification is just me using SetScale to fit the width of the widget to the width of the bars. Overhangs bother my sense of... something.

I'm not a fan of the new buff shrinks. I'll have to cast my vote for a style with fewer bigger boxes with more visible numbers. I like the idea of having the nameplates track only key short-duration debuffs (usually <1 min) and leave the rest to the target unitframe of whatever UI I'm using.
