WetSpot

Version: Version 0.79
by: spatton [More]

WetSpot is an addon that will automatically rotate the tracking methods for you at chosen intervals. This includes all tracking types - fish, minerals, herbs, and treasure. It will also rotate hunter and druid tracking methods (humanoids, beasts, etc.).

For example, if you are a herbalist and miner, while riding through a zone you can change between tracking for herbs and then tracking for minerals every 5 seconds. Or if you are a hunter in a battleground, you can switch between tracking humanoids, beasts, and hidden every 3 seconds.

You can choose whatever tracking methods you wish to look for - unknown spells will not be available to you. That means non-hunters won't see the hunter stuff, and non-dwarves won't be able to see the beer treasure method. If you have not learned the spell yet, the option will be disabled. WetSpot also detects when you are in a city, and will disable itself accordingly. When you exit the city, it will turn itself back on. You can access the WetSpot menu from the Blizzard options frame or by typing "/ws" or "/wetspot".

To do list:

Localization, LDB plugin, optional display bar, support for other tracking methods (low-level tracking, mailboxes, etc.)

This is my first official addon, and the original idea and coding comes from the now-defunct addon Spotter. The original author has given up the project (see comments). I took the code, rewrote it into an Ace3 mod, added more options and placed it in the Blizzard options frame. Some lua code was also learned from WowLife. Thank you to both of those authors for the ideas and code.

Sounds great. I'm very excited to see this get up and running. Definitely going to make my "best loved yet unknown" addon list.

Good ideas about the cities...I don't see a problem with the logic, I just need to code it.

Not sure about the PVP/invasion thing. Of course, it will turn itself off when you are in combat. We may have resort to just suspending it temporarily with the on-screen bar that I am trying to add.

The list of towns/cities was gathered from wowwiki (http://www.wowwiki.com/Innkeeper). I basically parsed the list and put them all into a table. I don't check for player resting status, I check each time you change zones.

Thanks for the comments...
I forgot about mail, flight, etc because Carbonite shows these at all times (although not repair... I forgot about that one).

The low-level quests come to mind because for my DK, 95% of the quests are in the low-level category (5% show up normally and then there are the high level ones that don't show up - ever).

I don't know about rotating the tracking within cities, but it might be useful to show certain tracking based on conditions:

You enter town and the tracking changes to:
Repair if equip below 80%
Mail if there is new mail
If not, show low level quests.

As I said before, it is important to turn this feature off should you be defending a town from invasion (i.e. crossroads under attack?) or raiding the other faction.

I was also wondering if your "town" condition was actual towns or just the resting condition found in major cities.

@Gsusnme - yes, I have already started working on the to-do list. First up is the combat thing and localization. Then the display bar, and finally an LDB plugin.

I agree, great idea!

I recommend adding "track low level quests"
Maybe auto-toggle when in town, since you wouldn't need human, beasts, hidden, treasure, mining, etc...

except PVP servers... Just needs a toggle in the configuration window, right?

Thanks for your work.

I must say, this is a FANTASTIC idea, looking forward to the to-do list options. I currently have 4 different toons where I created macro's to constantly switch between different tracking methods via a mouse button, this will replace that annoying method. Thank you very much!
