QuestGuru  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 2.8.3
by: Lazare [More]

QuestGuru is a Quest Log Enhancer.
If you are looking for the "Classic" version of QuestGuru click QuestGuru_Classic

I have split off QuestGuru and QuestGuru Sounds into two separate addons that don't rely on each other so that the community that really missed the sounds can have them with me delaying them because of the qork being done on QuestGuru. I hope this makes at least some people happy.
You can click > QuestGuru Sounds

Note: If you like this addon, please "Like it" on Curse.com.
All Donations support me and I thank you in advance for it.

Features include:

  • Enhanced 2 page quest display in the log
  • Patch 6.0 broke QuestGuru, so this is a completely different monster
  • Conforms to the WOD map quest log (Tooltips for quests and icons showing quest status)
  • Added full time quest level in front of quest name and tooltips.
For those who are missing the Quest Tracker of QuestGuru, try Kaliel's Tracker

I have been using it for a long while and is not half bad

TO-DO's:
  • Will try and revamp the quest tracker as I love it also. But wanted to get the Log out ASAP.
  • Try to bring back the other features of the old QuestGuru (Sounds, announcements, etc.)
  • Need to make a in-game config window, still a work in progress.
F A Q
==============
Q. How do I post a Bug Report?
  • A1 - Click on QuestGuru Go to the AddOn and on the right side there is a selection called "Bugs" click on that. You will need to be signed in to WoW Interface to create a bug report.
  • A2 - Or file a ticket on QuestGuru@CurseForge
  • Note:
  • Please include the version of QuestGuru you are using and copy/paste the error message you receive.
  • Please describe what you were doing when the error happened. This will help tremendously.
Q. How do I turn on auto-tracking of quests?
  • A - Look in the options for the game itself, not QuestGuru. Under Objectives there are options to set when to track quests.
  • QuestGuru does not duplicate these settings in its own options as it could become problematic and it is not necessary to duplicate options already available.
Q. Where can I find a version compatible with WoW patch x?
  • A. QuestGuru is supported for the current Expansion and Patch level running on the live servers. PTR versions may be supported as Alpha or Beta releases, but I offer no guarantee.

QuestGuru
(no changes)

QuestGuru_Tracker
* Normalizing the version numbers between QuestGuru & QuestGuru_Tracker to the same value. This will be the main change log henceforth.
* fix Achievement to ignore update events that happen during portals (between leaving and entering world events)
The update event would fire, but Blizzard was reporting no achievements during that time so the QGT would
"UnTrack" the Achievements and so there would be none when the display tried to update (and therefore currLine was zero and j was nil)
* Look at the oldChangeLog in QuestGuru_Tracker for older updates to the tracker

Version 2.2.17-50400 (QuestGuru)
-------------
* Changing the Version number so Curse will see that it's different

Version 1.5.16-50400 (QuestGuru_Tracker)
-------------
* fix QGT_Achievement.lua to handle Blizzard not returning an integer value on the slider
Version 2.2.16-50400 (QuestGuru)
-------------
* Removed a bit of diagnostic code accidently left in.
Version 2.2.15-50400 (QuestGuru)
-------------
* Change logic around QuestLog_OnShow to use secure hook functions to resolve
a taint issue introduced by patch 5.4.1 (Shame on you Blizzard).

Version 2.2.14-50400 (QuestGuru)
Version 1.5.15-50400 (QuestGuru_Tracker)
-------------
* TOC change for patch 5.4

Version 2.2.14-50300 (QuestGuru)
Version 1.5.15-50300 (QuestGuru_Tracker)
-------------
* TOC change for patch 5.3
* Fixed a problem in QGT_Achievements that caused the Tracker to fail (Tracker)
* Big thanks to CMTitan who provided code to handle Scenarios that came out with MoP (Tracker)

Version 2.2.13-50001 (QuestGuru)
-------------
* Added a new sound option to announce (Thank you Drizt)
* Added a snippet of code to fix a rare QuestLog layout problem. Drizt ran into this again in MoP & kindly shared his fix for the issue.
* Fixed a few more places where party handling was changed in MoP/Patch 5.0.4.
* Changed the Debug message for the objectives not returning data to be sensitive to the debug setting.

Version 1.5.14-50001 (QuestGuru_Tracker)
-------------
* Fixed another place where party handling was changed in MoP/Patch 5.0.4.

Version 2.2.12-50001 (QuestGuru)
-------------
* Blizzard API GetQuestLogLeaderBoard is failing to return information for the identified objective & quest on some quests.
I changed the code to look for no information return and simply bypass processing for that objective after dumping some info into the chatlog.
I've added a slashcommand to invoke the routine at will: "/qg testui1"
For me, it's failing on "Shadow Wardens" and perhaps that's because the world tree marks are currency, not "items".
If the quest is an event quest (get 150 marks) then the type of quest should be event and the numObjectives should be zero.

Version 2.2.11-50001 (QuestGuru)
-------------
* Error being reported by some @ line 410 of QuestGuru.lua. Added some diagnostic code when text == nil

Version 2.2.10-50001 (QuestGuru)
-------------
* Removed some leftover diagnostic messages

Version 1.5.13-50001 (QuestGuru_Tracker)
-------------
* Fixed a problem with the Achievement Tracking

Version 2.2.9-50001 (QuestGuru)
Version 1.5.12-50001 (QuestGuru_Tracker)
-------------
* Both - Updated several items for compatability with Mists of Panderia (Patch 5.0.x)

Version 2.2.7-40300 (QuestGuru)
Version 1.5.10-40300 (QuestGuru_Tracker)
-------------
* Latest revision of the Russian localization now incorporated. Thank you again StingerSoft!
* Removed some unused code. Frame "QG_QuestLogTitleMenu"
* Fixed the SetBindings problem that would cause all bindings to occassionally get lost.

Version 2.2.6-40300 (QuestGuru)
Version 1.5.9-40300 (QuestGuru_Tracker)
-------------
* Made several localization changes. Enabled $substitution variables in announcer to be localized as well.
* Incorporated a brand new localization for Chinese(zhCN). Credit to Honooon with many thanks.
* Incorporated an updated localization for Russian(ruRU). Credit to StingerSoft with many thanks also.
* Updated all of the localizations (even the new ones) to synchronize variable names
* I based the updates upon the default (American) localization file.
* I removed variables that were no longer in the base localization file (most moved to the QuestGuru_Tracer localization)
* and added missing variables (in American)
* We now have localizations for German, French, Russian, and Chinese (zhCN & zhTW).
* I would really appreciate it if speakers of those languages sent me updates to them.
* There are some new variables in the localizations that need translation!

Version 2.2.5-40300
-------------
* The History button call to QuestCompletist has been fixed.

Version 2.2.4a-40300
-------------
* Refixed an issue in QuestGuru_Tracker\QGT_Quests.lua where SaveBindings sometimes received an invalid value because GetCurrentBindingSet() would return other than nil, 1, or 2.

Version 2.2.4-40300
-------------
* Fixed the TOC for 4.3 cata
* MrObrien has asked that somebody pickup and work on the QuestGuru so I will try and do some updates as I can't play without this mod.
Addon home is www.wowinterface.com and you can PM me there if you like. Gregity is the name.
I will be making small changes to get used to the codebase before I try anything like a major update.
* Fixed an issue in QuestGuru_Tracker/QGT_Quests.lua where SaveBindings sometimes received an invalid value because GetCurrentBindingSet() would return nil
* No other new information has been added (yet).

Please please please, is it possible to get a keybinding for hiding/showing the tracker? I am using Goose for this atm, but it would sweet if I could just press a key to see the tracker while I'm doing the heroic daily or something, and not have it take up my screen. Thanks so much for the best tracker addon imo!

I've not really messed with key bindings too much yet, but I'll see what I can do. Since "L" opens and closes the QuestGuru window, maybe Shift-L to show/hide the tracker? Just as a default, of course, it could be changed in the in-game key binding window.... I'll look into that for the next version.

Thanks! Although I think that there should be a keybinding for the quest and achievement window, since you can separate them. Just a thought though; I was using Goose to hide the tracker in raids, but then I couldn't see the achievement tracker unless I separated them. Which brings me nicely to my next request...

I think it would be a great idea to allow the tracker and achievement window to anchor from the top/bottom independently. When I have them separated, I might want the achievement tracker to anchor from the bottom, but not the quest tracker or vice versa.

Lastly, I have a small "bug" or perhaps just an oversight. When you dock the tracker to the left side of the screen, the tooltips that normally pop up on the left (and therefore out of the way) when its docked on the right pop up on top of the tracker. Maybe some option to choose where the tooltips pop up at, or just automagically let them pop to the opposite side of the tracker?

Thanks again for all your hard work. As a future note, do you prefer bugs/feature requests to be posted on a particular site?

What happened?

Where did the option to toggle the tracker off entirely go, I use questhelper's tracker and since I updated to latest version I can't get rid of it. I use a script on a macro to Frame:Hide(); but it keeps coming back on various conditions. Can we have that put back in please.

Re: What happened?

If you don't want to use the QuestGuru Tracker, disable the QuestGuru Tracker addon before you log in to your character.

There will be a single keybinding to hide the trackers. I figure if someone still wants one visible they can have just that one showing, or minimize the other and have them overlap or something.

At some point I will be working on separating the options for the tracker and achievement windows so that they can have their own settings.

The game decides the position for the tooltips, I just tell it to show them.

I think you might be misunderstanding me. I do not mean the game tooltips, I mean the tooltips on the tracker itself when you mouseover a quest objective or title. These do not appear in the default tooltip area that I have set with TipTac, indicating to me that they are special tips. If you could let me know the name of your tooltips, I can see if the TipTac author can add them to the addon and make them appear where my other tips are (it works for most special tips but not those). Basically though, this means that the quest objective tooltips are only out of the way if you have the tracker on the right side of your screen, and they cover up the tracker objectives if you have it on the left side of your screen. If you move your tracker to the left side of the screen then mouseover an objective in the tracker itself you'll see what I mean. I understand if its not something that will/can be implemented, but like I said, if you can give me the name of the tooltips I can probably hook TipTac into them and move them myself.

Regarding the keybindings, I guess I understand, but sometimes I want to see my achievement tracker (for example in a raid) but not my quest tracker, and manually going in and unselecting the quests so that the tracker disappears is not ideal IMO. Of course, I can just deal with the quest and achievements being tracked in the same window then; I'll miss the multi window functionality but I want the keybinding more so I'll live. =)

Thanks for your prompt reply and keep up the great work!

Feature I'd like to request

Any possible way to split the Frame in two and have the availability to hide the quest details, in other word, I'd like for just the quest list (left side) to be shown until I click on a certain quest and then have it open to the details side (right side)

Similar to how QuestGuru and Lightheaded are I'd like to be able to have the option of having lightheaded open and the left side of questguru

Turn this option on in the game options - NOT QuestGuru options - under "objectives" I believe. Must be on in Blizzard options to work as QG hooks into some of the code of the default tracker I think.

Hey.

I'm finding I have the same issue as Prismatech, with new quests not being auto-added to the tracker, yet the option is enabled in the Blizz menu. If i use the QG tracker, everything is fine, but then i'm using 2 trackers, and it's a bit of a waste :/

Any ideas on a fix, or any way to hide the QG tracker ?

Cheers

xtoq - I thought I had been telling the game to display the tooltips just based on where the quest title was, but apparently I did specify to the left. The next version will fix it so that it will display to the right if the tracker is to the left.

If you only want to show the achievement tracker temporarily and you usually have both trackers shown, right-click the "*" on the achievement tracker. Then when you want to show both trackers again right-click on the "Q". This is much easier than untracking all quests. The trackers will stay separate windows, the key binding will show/hide both.

Tearstar - QuestGuru is designed to be double wide at all times, changing that now would require a massive amount of work that I am not willing to do.

eldavido - I'm not sure what you mean about using 2 trackers if you use the QG tracker... are you also using some other quest tracker addon? And I did some testing and quests are auto-tracking just fine with QuestGuru running without the QuestGuru tracker. The quests were being added to the Blizzard tracker normally.

hey Mr O'B

to clarify:

Yes, i'm currently levelling a new alt, so have Questhelper installed, therefore have its tracker active (dunno why, i just really like the tracker). Edit: i have the QH tracker set to only watch whats selected in the quest log

AFAIK, i've not changed anything, yet all of a sudden, quest's no longer seem to auto-track any more. I've tried clean installs etc, but as it's on 2 PC's, and both are updated manually, I'm guessing it's not something i did.

As i said, i've made sure the blizz options for tracking are ticked, and don't "think" i have any other conflicting addons (nothing changed barring a few updated versions of altoholic / pb4 / arkinventory) so i'm a bit puzzled.

If needs be, i can post a screenie of my addons foldder, in case something flags as being a conflicting addon :/

Bit stumped now tbh

EDIT: after some testing, it's ONLY the new alt that the auto-tracking isn't working on, all other toons are fine :/

AHAA !!! fix't the issues i was having.

For the record, the quests weren't auto-tracking simply cos i had my map near the bottom of my UI, and the tracker was off-screen, therefore was blocking any more quests as "i did not have enough free space to track more"

What an annoyance this has been, heads up for anyone else struggling.
