NPCScan helps you find NPCs by scanning nameplates, minimap vignettes, and mouseover targets, with an optional dynamic targeting keybinding. Once an NPC is found by one of these methods, an on screen alert is displayed and an audio alert is played.
Nameplates
Alerts will be triggered whenever a nameplate is created, if that nameplate belongs to one of the tracked NPCs. To use this feature with any reliability, the Interface->Names->Always Show Nameplates option must be turned on from the WoW Game Menu.
Dynamic Target Keybinding
NPCScan includes a key binding that will trigger a dynamically-generated targeting macro. Each time it is pressed, the key binding will trigger a /targetexact <mob name=""> for every tracked NPC in the current zone you are in, in addition to any custom NPC additions. This only attempts a search each time it is triggered; it is not a continuous search.
To access this feature, just set a keybind under the Key Bindings->AddOns->NPCScan->Targeting Macro section.
“Found” Alert
When an NPC is found, NPCScan alerts you by playing a loud and distinctive sound, making your screen pulse red, and displaying a Targeting Button for every NPC that is found.
Targeting Buttons
When clicked, the targeting button tries to target the NPC it depicts. You can also bind a key to trigger the newest button, in cases where multiple buttons are spawned.
Note: These buttons cannot be shown during combat. In the unlikely case that you do find a rare while fighting, the button or buttons will appear after you leave combat.
Options
NPCScan's main options window can be accessed from the Interface Options menu. To access the NPC list and other settings, type “/npcscan”.
New sounds can be added to the alert sound dropdown menu by installing SharedMedia.

Great Idea...But....
This is a fabulous idea, but....you have to have better computer knowledge then I currently have to be able to do this....can you maybe list (or send me) general instructs on how to make the file "RunWow.Bat" and then how to edit in notepad. This may be asking too much, but thought I'd ask....would love to be able to do this since I can't figure out how to make the manual delete option work.

Deleting Cache Problem
I have no doubt that I am computer-illiterate....but I really can't figure this one out and need more info, so anyone that can help, it would be appreciated....
I have added Gondria=33776, then of course found her as a pet in the city. Wanting to clear the cache and seem to be having problems. I have deleted the cache file as instructed in order to "clear" npcs that have been found already. In game, under /npcscan, there is still a red x next to Gondria and the other rares I killed. I delete Gondria and then try to readd her, but she still comes up with a red x. What am I doing wrong? |

Re: Great Idea...But....
Create a text file in your Program Files\World of Warcraft folder. Leave it as New Text Document.txt for now. Copy the code below and paste it into the text file you just made. Close that text file. Rename it to RunWOW.Bat. It will ask if you are sure you want to change this file, click Yes. Now run that batch file to clear the _NPCScan cache. |

Range
Thanks so much for this great addon.
I can't use the file you posted to automatically delete the cache file as I use a Mac, but I don't mind doing it manually as this addon has been so helpful at tracking down rares. The only thing I am curious about is if anyone has done any tests on the range of the addon? I was coming out of the portaling in area in Dalaran, and was at the foot of the stairs just in Runeweaver Square, when the addon said I had discovered Gondria. The person who had tamed it was standing out of line of sight over in front of The Silver Enclave. That seems a fair distance and it seems to have Xray vision Regards

Using the RunWow.Bat code with Carbonite seems to upset it as it'll store settings in cache so i suggest modifying the code to;
Code:
DEL /Q Cache/WDB/enGB/creaturecache.wdb CLS @echo off @echo ************************* @echo * NPCScan Cache Deleter * @echo ************************* @echo Running launcher.exe Launcher.exe Exit |
