oUF Asym UI - Widescreen  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 2.5
by: Dawn [More]

Main purpose of creating this UI was to create a lightweight interface that runs on my shitty PC, without losing to much utility and without looking like crap.
The name simply comes from my oUF layout. This UI is build around it.

The UI basically doesn't need a setup ingame, since version 1.9. All custom settings can be done by lua.

oUF_Asym UI is made to work for 1440x900, it works out of the box for 1680x1050 and 1920x1200, ... should work for all widescreen resolutions.

It comes with A LOT of different bartextures and fonts, see oUF_Asym fonts/texture folder and dArt folder.
There is also some nice art to play around with located in dArt/Art.

i.e.

I don't use any UI scale at all. I don't have this option checked. Or in other words this UI is basically build around an UI scale of 1.0.
If you are using another resolution as 1440x900, you might have to adjust your UI scale until it fits.

FEATURES:
- no setup, works out of the box for every (new) character
- very lightweight, it uses around 970kb of memory, around 1MB in raids
- a clean interface without glitches (even in combat)
- a lot of options to change the look of frameborders, textures...
- a lot of fun while playing .... hopefully
- last but not least, pretty decent support ... i'm trying, really! *cough*

NOTE:
1.) Pretty much any addon included in this UI is heavily customized, I don't take any credits for this.
However, you shouldn't update any of the addons, manually!
2.) If something spits out errors or stops working, tell me please.
3.) I will only support this to the point where it comes to bug fixing. If you want to customize it, you are on your own.
4.) Read the changelog, it contains usefull information!

SETUP:

1.) backup you font, interface and wtf folder
2.) Extract everything into your \WorldofWarcraft\ folder
3.) Make sure you rename YOURACCOUNTNAME to ... guess what ...

This and That:
* Blizzards Calendar is accessible by right clicking on the minimap
* Tracking is accessible by middle clicking on the minimap
* Chat frames minimize after 20seconds of inactivity - you can change the duration in Chicchai
* You can move all bag frames by holding ALT.
* to open a GM ticket type /GM or /ticket
* to reload your UI type /rl

Some addons that you can customize easily are:

*actionbars
rActionBarStyler\rActionBarStyler.lua

*unitframes
oUF_Asym\layout.lua

*chatframe (minimize/maximize effect, borders, background)
Chicchai\core.lua

*dFader (handles fade out of frames, when you are out of combat or without a target selected)
dFader\dFader.lua

*!LynColors (handles all kind of colors,... class colors, mana color, health color, ...)
!LynColors\core.lua

*dMinimap (Minimap addon, you can choose between round or square shape, change the borders, color, position, ....)
dMinimap\dMinimap.lua

Known issues:
1.) FogBG is used to display animated *.m2 files for the minimap. Some instances display *.m2 files different, there might be some glitches. It's still ok for my taste, since it doesn't happen that often. If you don't care for those fog animations at all, simply delete FogBG from your addon folder.
2.) Quality ID doesn't like "bound to account" items, it spits out an lua error while trying to show their itemLvl.

I love this UI, it's now all i use.

The only thing thats missing is a small red dot - or whatever - for who has aggro in your grid like layout.

Apart from that keep up the good work, You have done an amazing job

oUF_Banzai will be included in 1.8, it colours the health bar on aggro.

I'm currently testing some tooltip addons and an actionbar replacement for dominos. I'm trying to get the whole UI more to something "very lightweight all LUA.. no gui."

I want my tooltip to include talents, to show who is targeted, to stick on the mouse for units and to stick on an anchor for non units. Or if I have to decide (I don't really want to *cough*) between an anchor or the mouse, stick it on the mouse. Some way to change font and border, maybe background. That's it.

Got rid of TicTac and using TipTop right now which works fine.

1) the panels looked very nice but to be honest: that's just eye candy. If you haden't taken them out of your ui I'm sure I'd deleted kgpanels pretty soon. One chatframe bottomleft is all I need.

2) Minimazation of chatframe is very much personal taste. Right now I use it but I guess I'll deactive that feature soon

3) I love one chatframe, I have absolute no use for more than one chatpanel, especially when I can create tabs. The space that got freed up by the second chatpanel is a perfect space for my threatmeter.

I'm very much for the separaton of UI pack and oUF_Asym. I often add some changes to the layout.lua, especially deleting raidframes spawnage and position of frames and it is kinda annoying to do those changes manually. I'd very much welcome a seperate site for your oUF layout only, with a detailed changelog so I can see if I have to update at all.

Noobish general oUF question: On my healer I use grid and no oUF raidframes. On my tank I'd be fine with your raidframes. Is it possible to do something like that? Just make a copy of oUF_Asym and rename it to oUF_Asym2 and load one for my tank and one for my healer?

The tweak I'd welcome most to your oUF layout would be partytargets as little frame or just text with raidicon. I think those add real information to your UI, especially for watching DPS and what they're doing. Buffs for party frames on the other hand I almost always edit out, because they add no information for me and just clutter up the screen.

I'll see if I can replace TipTac with something else, Ranttooltip or something alike.

Something else, where I do need some input:

1.) How much do you liked the panels behind chatframes and minimap?
2.) How much do you like the way chatframes minimize? Do you need it at all ?
3.) What would you like more, chatframes that minimize or a panel behind chatframes that only fade out (like default), but stay at the same size all the time.

Btw, I'm sorry, I know there is not much room for customization which frequent updates going on, overwriting custom changes, atm. I might split the oUF layout into a separate download and update it there.

I dumped Dominos for rActionBarStyler a while back. It can be a bit of a pain to get setup but it works very well and only uses like 1.0kb. Even with rActionButtonStyler it is only a whopping 8.0kb. You do lose some of the functionality though. There is no option to fade OOC or resize each bar differently. I'm okay with that though.

Here is what mine looks like as of yesterday.

Dawn, could you tell me where the anchor for the raid frames is? I'd like to move the frame to the top left corner. A little more out of the way for me

Thanks.

to change raid frame position look for (for me line 1444):
Code:
raidgroup:SetPoint('TOPLEFT', UIParent, 'LEFT', 40, 55)
It's currently aligned to the Left side of the screen. It might have a slightly different value for X and Y, since I tweaked some stuff for 1.8.

I'm currently using lolTip which is quite small, but doesn't really feature "anchor to mouse". It does, but you can't set offsets, it's always on top of the cursor. sTooltip, TipTop and the like also don't feature this. I might have to stick with Ranttooltip, but I don't like how it looks, .....

PerfectBar might be something that can replace Dominos. I just have to play around with it some more.

@ 1.8 and going in the direction of a .lua heavy compilation:

There are tons of great addons out there where options are available through .lua editing only. While many addons with a GUI are often clumsier and a little bit more memory hungry, they often have a feature I absolutely love:

easy switching between profiles. While a perfect set up UI might be fantastic for toon number one, I personally often have very different looking UIs for other toons (especially dps vs. healer vs. tank), so that's why I sometimes still stick to addons with an options menu.

@ashopedies
I know, I'm playing a Paladin and Druid on 80 and from time to time some of the other classes (way below 60 most of the time).

What I try to come up with is something that works on every toon, mainly my main, ofc. But just as good on a fresh lvl1 as it can be. I think that's not impossible to achieve without profiles. After all I tried to set up my "profile" addons in the past just to show the same on every toon.
i.e. create a new char and everything is ready to go, without loading any profile at all

Besides, while making this UI, my fps got up from less than 4fps to up to 9fps in a 25man raid (and I even forgot to put all graphic details back to zero). And that's what was the most important thing for me, anyway.

It's basically the same PC I had when WoW released - old'n shabby

@demitri
whats the key thing you want from an actionbar replacement?
I need my actionbars to work with states, i.e. [combat],[exists]. Which means bars show in combat and / or with a target selected (it has to be at least these two conditions). Mouseover feature would be nice, too. Hiding bars completely (but still being able to access them by some way to put spells on them) would be also very nice.

I basically don't want to see a freakin' button anywhere, except in combat (or with a target, which I mainly use as a work around the fact that bars are hidden ooc).

I also have a key binding for everything. I just use one or two bars (depending on class and how many Cooldowns are available/important), to show cooldowns on them, below the player frame.

I really like to show CDs on an actionbar, because of several reasons.
1. a bar always shows the icon of the CD, even when it's off CD
2. I can just line up CDs in a way I need want to look at them, which means they will be in the same position every time.
3. I don't need another addon to display CDs. A bar addon is there anyway. OmniCC to display CDs on everything, too.

I couldn't find an addon that tracks CDs in such a way.

The perfect bar addon in my imagination is simple like thekbar, nMainbar or rActionBarStyler. Features some easy way to bind keys to it. Has fading options beyond just fading on "mouseover". Mainly the two conditions I meantioned above. And it let's me place up to 10 x 12 button bars where I want them (it could be a bit more flexible, though) with different conditions for each one.
